Jethro is sanding his boat with a jar of bourbon beside him like every night but tonight his heart isn't in sanding down his precious boat or drinking until he passes out, no tonight, he's thinking of their last night in Paris, the last night he slept a full night, the last night he still had his heart. He smiles at the photo hanging above his head as his mind flashes back to their last night in Paris, the night before she shattered what remained of his heart and took the rest of it with her, never to be fixed, until he laids eyes on her in MTAC.
Flashback, Paris 1999.
He has his arm around her waist, holding her as they walk back from the bar to their hotel. He's been worried about her for days as she's been quiet and she's had no appetite and in their line of work not eating is very dangerous, but he's not pushed her to talk because he knows she'll stonewall him.
"Are you okay? You barely ate anything today, or the past few days now that I think about it. And you haven't been talking that much." He asks, he can't ignore her quietness or her non appetite any longer.
"I'm fine, Jethro." He hears her say curtly as they step into their hotel lobby, He heaves a sigh, she's clearly not fine. Neither of them say anything as they walk up the stairs to their room, although he tightens his arm around her waist as she stumbles in her heels on the stairs but neither of them utter a word until their door is locked firmly behind them. He lets her go and stares at her, his icy blue eyes on hers.
"Okay, Jen, you're going to tell me what's been going on with you these past few days and you're going to tell me now." Jethro orders her through his gritted teeth, he's had enough of her ignoring his questions and lying to him. His eyes grow dark as he watches her smile a dazzling smile at him as she peels the red dress from her body, leaving her in her heels and her underwear. All of a sudden, his order is out of his head as he walks over to her slowly, taunting her. He gently, always gently, pushes her back onto the bed behind her and hovers over her, both their eyes locking on one another as he lowers his head into her pretty neck, kissing and sucking it. He hears her red heels thump to the floor as she wraps her legs around his waist, indicating the perfect way to end the perfect night.
He holds her in his arms, unaware that this will be the last time he'll hold her in his arms as they sleep, the last time he'll breathe in her lavender shampoo which acts like a sleeping drug, sending him into a deep sleep. He's unaware that once he wakes, his arms will be empty, the spot on the bed will be cold, freezing almost with nothing to indicate that she was ever in the city with him, except a letter and the smell of her perfume and shampoo on everything in the room, when he wakes, she will be gone along with his heart which has been fully given to her and only to her.
When he wakes, Jenny Shepard and his heart will have long fled Paris, leaving him alone without anyone.
Jethro comes out of the flashback with a stifled sob, he hasn't cried over her in six years, the morning he found the bed and his arms cold and empty of Jen. he wishes he could have woken up just a little bit earlier in time to see her walking out of the room with her bags in hands and stop her, he should've gotten her to tell what she was planning that night instead of having amazing sex with her and allowing her shampoo to drug him into sleep but he can't and he's been paying for it ever since.
Since she left him, he hasn't gotten a full night's sleep.
Since she left him, his heart has always remained with her and he's never gotten it back.
He wants her heart back along with her.
