Dancing With Half A Heart
Dancing With Half A Heart

Piper closed her eyes momentarily, feeling the music infiltrate her soul and her limbs move involuntarily with the beat.  Tender fingers trailed up her arms and cupped her cheeks, his thumbs gently tracing her jaw line.  She tilted her head to the side and rested it against his chest, letting the beat of his heart steal her breath away.

His open palms rested on her back, drawing small circular motions as he kissed the top of her head.  Piper opened her eyes, staring through the crowd of couples, each intent on each other and oblivious to the world around them.  Her breath caught in her throat and she fought the urge to tense her body.

There he was.

He was just standing there, watching her body move in synchrony with her lover.

Her lover.  His rival

Their eyes met in an instant, their eyes locking and staring into each other's souls.

Into her soul…And into her heart

Gradually, they'd fallen in love.  The small friendly smiles became soft touches and the soft touches become passionate kisses.  But still she danced.

With half a heart

She loved Leo, not the man she had long ago confessed her adoration for.  She had to let him go, she had to be with Leo.  Her vision cleared and he was gone, disappeared from her sight in a split second.  Her eyes darted around the room, her body still swaying with the music, guided by his touch.  She exhaled as her eyes fell on Leo not having known she'd even held her breath.

With all that I have, I'll be yours

Leo stopped and stood directly behind him, staring into Piper's eyes; waiting patiently for her love.

"Piper?  What is it?  You've stopped dancing."  He pulled away and looked at Piper, following her stare to be met with Leo.  "Piper?"

"I'm sorry.  We can't keep doing this."  She responded after a few seconds of silence, barely drawing her eyes way from Leo.  "We knew this was going to happen."  For months their relationship had been lifeless, Leo's shadow constantly darkening their union.

True love shall prevail

He stepped back, finally defeated, slipping into the crowds and disappearing.

And they will dance

Not a single sound was uttered nor needed.  A passionate kiss, a melting of the bodies and they became one.

Together…Forever
