Chapter 1

A man sits at a desk, he sets down his tools and admires his work. Who knew it would be this easy to make a bomb. He grins as he clears his web browser and closes down his computer. His family doesn't need to know what he has been up to. Not that they would care, none of his kids talk to him anymore. They all blame him for his wife's death. She had died in a car accident as they were coming home from celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary, she was driving because he had drank to much at supper. She shouldn't have been driving because she had been having bad headaches lately. The autopsy showed she had a tumor that had been causing the headaches. A headache came on as she was driving and she drove through a red light, and a car t-boned them.

He was able to get out of the car but she was pinned in by the other car. The engine burst into flames before the firetruck showed up. By the time they pulled on scene it had spread to the front seat. He had to listen to his wife scream as she burned to death.

The driver Jimmy Clark an attorney sued him for his injuries. He served the man the very next day and won. They would all pay for what happened. He looked at the bombs he made. The first one is going to go off in the attorney office downtown on 5th street. The other ones will be going off once those firefighters get inside and start clearing the building. He had spent weeks learning the shift change at the firehouse, and when Jimmy would be in the office.

Even though both bombs looked the same they were completely different. The first one was to set a fire. The second one was to make a very big explosion. It was going in the ceiling below the lawyers. It would pack a bigger punch and hopefully kill the people that killed his wife.

He looked at the framed picture on his desk. It was of him and his wife, taken a few months before she died. He ran his thumb over frame and smiled. He got up and walked to the door. He turned around one more time to look at the room, turned off the light and headed to bed. He had an early day tomorrow and needed to sleep.

Buck woke up to the sound of his alarm going off. He turned it off and rolled over in bed wrapping his arm around the person next to him.

"Good morning." Kenna Ridghway said as she rolled over in bed facing Buck.

"Morning beautiful. Do you have time for breakfast?" Buck asked as they got out of bed.

Kenna is a real estate agent. They meet when the 118 got called to a man falling down stairs. She was taking pictures of a house with the homeowner and he tripped and fell down the stairs. She quickly called 9-1-1 and waited with the man until help arrived. She stopped by the station later that day with cupcakes as a thank you for their service. As she was leaving Buck came outside and asked her out. Kenna hesitated before saying yes. That was a year ago yesterday. Buck took her out for dinner last night and proposed to her, she said yes.

"I have time for something quick. I need to head in early for a closing. They want it done first thing this morning. I have been so busy with work lately that I haven't had time to do much. My friends have been after me to go for drinks. I need to do that after..." She stopped talking and stared at Buck with a shocked look on her face.

"What's wrong are you okay?" Buck asked as he walked over to her.

"Oh my gosh." Kenna whispered. "I don't remember if I had my period last month. I have been busy with work and I might have missed taking my pill."

"Just to be on the safe side you can take a test. I'll be happy either way." Buck said and kissed heron the forehead.

"I know you will. I was just hoping to have a house before we have kids. Now people will think we got engaged because I'm pregnant."

"Who cares what people think about us. I love you and that's all that maters."

"I love you to Buck. I'll pick up a test on my way to work. Can you warm up a cinnamon roll for me?"

"Let me know what the result is." Buck said as he left the bedroom to go make breakfast.

A truck pulls up and parks outside a ten story building. It was still brand new, most of the space hasn't been rented yet. The attorney office of Clark, Clark, and Martin are on the sixth floor. The floors above were still empty. The man who's ID says Jason Jones looks at the blueprints of the sixth and fifth floors. Since he is an electrician he won't have a problem getting in. He has a wiring job on the ninth floor anyway. Jason found a store room near the fire exit and elevators he can set the first bomb. That way it would be hard for them to get out. Once it was in place he set the timer for an hour. He needed to put the second one in place and start his job upstairs. If anyone asks he can say he forgot something in his truck.

After the smaller bombs are in place around the fifth floor he activated them. Unlike the first bomb this one was set for remote detonation. He wanted to make sure those firefighters were inside when it went off. He went upstairs to work and left with five minutes to spare. He was sitting in his truck down the road when the bomb went off.

Buck was walking from the kitchen when his phone dinged. He looked at a picture that Kenna had sent him. Her text that followed said it's positive and she was going to make a doctor appointment. Keep it to yourself for now. Buck grinned as he answered her that he would go with her.

"So Romeo what did you and Kenna do last night?" Chim asked with a knowing grin.

Maddie must of told him that he was planning on proposing. Buck should have known that she wouldn't keep it to herself.

Hen set down the magazine she was reading. "Yesterday was your one year anniversary wasn't it?"

"Yes it was. If you must know before I tell my sister," Buck said looking at Chim. "Kenna said yes."

"To what? Moving in together?" Eddie asked as he changed the channel.

"That's great news, congratulations Buck-a-roo." Chim jumped to his feet and pulled Buck into a hug. "I can't believe you're getting married."

Hen and Eddie both stood up and hugged Buck. They must have been making a lot of noise because Bobby came out of his office.

"What's going on out here?"

"I got engaged last night." Buck said with a big grin.

Bobby got a big smile on his face and walked to Buck giving him a hug. "Congratulations Buck I'm happy for you. Kenna is a wonderful girl."

"Thanks Bobby that means a lot." Buck felt a little guilty telling his LA family before telling his own family. The guilt passed as fast as it came on. Yes he was mending bridges with his parents but the still had lots of things to go though before he could fully forgive them.

"I'm going to give Maddie a quick call before she starts her shift." Buck walked downstairs and made the call.

"Hello?" Maddie answered in a sing song voice. "I was hoping you would tell me first."

"Let me guess Chimney had to brag about knowing first?"

"Actually Kenna already called me. Congratulations baby brother I'm so happy for you. Have you called mom and dad yet?"

"Not yet. I was going to tonight. They haven't even meet her. The few times we planned on going to Pennsylvania they canceled on us, saying something came up. I guess I'm not that important to them."

"Buck don't think that. They care about you, more then you know."

"Maddie the only time I got attention was when I get hurt. I barley got them to speak to me. That's why I left. They were probably glad I was gone, I could be dead and they wouldn't care."

"Evan Buckly don't you dare say that. You have me. You always will."

Buck was about to respond when the alarms went off. "I have to go, love you." He hung up before she could respond. He grabbed his gear and ran to the truck.

Ten minutes later they stopped in front of a building. Smoke was coming from the middle of the sixth floor.

"Buck and Eddie suit up and head up the ladder to the sixth floor, the stairs are blocked and we still have people up there, the lower floors have all been evacuated. Nobody is in the top four floors, those are are still empty offices. Hen,Chim go check on the ones that made it out."

They all nodded and went to work. Once the ladder was in place Buck and Eddie climbed up and through a window. Another firefighter stayed on the ladder to help people down.

9-1-1

Down the road Jason saw the firefighters go up the ladder and in the building. He picked up the remote and pushed the button. The explosion was so big and loud that it shock his truck. When the dust settled there was a hole in the side of the building and the sixth floor had collapsed onto the fifth floor.

9-1-1

Bobby was watching as two women came out the window and down the ladder. He asked for an update on his radio.

"Heading to a back office Cap. The two women we sent out said there is one more person inside. Jimmy Clark, he is an attorney. The ladies said the other two lawyers have court." Eddie said.

"Thanks Eddie." Bobby turned and waved Hen over. "I have two more coming down."

Bobby was turning around when a loud explosion was heard and he was thrown to the ground. Bobby jumped to his feet and looked up to the last place his men had been. What he saw made his stomach hurt. There was a gaping hole where the sixth floor had been.

"Buck, Eddie respond! Buck! Eddie!" Bobby screamed into the radio, he was meet with silence. "Someone please answer." Bobby whispered to no one.

Hen laid her hand on Bobby's arm looking for any injuries. She looked at the building and said a prayer for Buck and Eddie.

9-1-1

Buck entered the window into a large room with a desk and chairs "We are inside a conference room Cap." Buck said into his radio.

"Go to the lobby. There is a woman named Stacy under the front desk.

"Copy that." Buck said and left the room. He turned left, following an arrow that said lobby. He walked up to the front desk and leaned over and saw two women.

"LAFD Stacy?" A woman nodded. "Let's get you two out of here." He held his hand out and helped them to their feet. They thanked him as Eddie was walking them to the conference room one woman stopped.

"I think Jimmy Clark is in his office. I didn't see him but he is usually here before us. It's the second door on the left." She said as she pointed down the hallway.

"I'll go get him." Buck said and walked down the hallway. He listened as Bobby checked in and Eddie answering. He opened the door but didn't see anyone. He walked around the desk and didn't see anyone. He grabbed his radio to let them know the office was empty, when the floor opened up under him and he fell through.

"Buck do you need any help?" Eddie yelled as he walked out of the conference room. He took a step down the hallway as the bomb below him went off. He yelled as the floor opened up around him and swallowed him down.

As the dust settled two men where trapped under rubble and more was falling on and around them. The building let out a groan as cracks went up the walls. The building shuddered as it threatened to cave in. Shouts from outside couldn't be heard under all the concrete.
