It was late at night and I was still in the office, working on a case. I couldn't wait to go home and get some sleep, but first I needed to finish my closing arguments.
It had been a tough week, too much work and stress. Ellenor was at her parents', her mother was sick and needed her. Eugene was also dealing with personal issues, so as a result, all of their cases were handed to Lindsay and I. Jimmy was doing the research.
Have an hour later, I couldn't get any work done, so I decided to take a break. My back and neck were sore, I stretched and tried to relax... that's when I looked out of my window and saw her. I didn't know Lindsay was still in the office, I thought she had gone for the day, like the others.
She seemed upset, probably because of the lack of progress on her case. The Wilson trial was draining all her energies, she was spending lots of time working on the defense of Carla, the mother accused of killing her son. I had my doubts, but Lindsay seemed pretty convinced the woman was innocent, and she was giving her all to get the client free.
I started watching Lindsay, and for some reason, I couldn't stop doing that... I was hipnotized. Then, as if she had sensed my gaze upon her, she looked up, and our eyes met. She gave me one of those drop-dead smiles she gives me sometimes... it has such an effect on me that I can't even describe it.
She got up and headed to my office.
"Hey", she said when she got in.
"Hey. Tough going"?
"Yeah. What about you?"
"I'm almost finished".
"You think you're gonna win this one?"
"Yeah, I think so. It was an easy case, the DA had no physical evidence, not even a reliable witness".
"That's great."
After saying that, Lindsay sat down. She had a notepad on her lap and was biting the cap of her pen, waiting for inspiration.
Once again, I kept staring at her. "Stop that, Bobby", I said to myself. "Don't even think about it. She works for you, she's your friend, a really good friend. She never gave any reasons for you to think she feels any other way about you, so drop it! Where's that coming from, stop thinking this way about Lindsay!".
My body and heart were dueling with my head... and my head lost. I have no idea what got into me that night, but I got up from my desk and sat down beside her on the couch. She didn't move when I did so, she didn't even look at me.
All I wanted at that moment was to feel her close to me, so I leaned in, as if to read what was on her pad. Her perfume was intoxicating, I couldn't think straight anymore!
Then she turned her head and looked at me. When her gaze met mine I saw the same desire in her eyes. The next thing I knew we were kissing hungrily, and I was unbutonning her blouse. Her mouth tasted so good, I couldn't stop kissing her!
We made love the whole night long. Even now, hours later, I can still smell her perfume on my body, and the memory of her skin pressed against mine was driving me crazy.
We didn't speak about what happened. I didn't know what to say. It wasn't like Lindsay gave me much time to think about it, though. After we were finished she put her clothes on and left without a word. She left me alone with the memories of a night I will never forget.
