If You Saw An Angel

If you saw an angel in the moonlight

What would you do

Would you watch in distant awe with your mouth open wide

Or would you come closer, to touch, to stand at her side

Could you speak in her own language, to ask why she looked so sad

To see her in the moonlight, in pale shining whitewash so elegantly clad

If you were seen by an angel in the moonlight

What would she do

Would she keep her eyes on you in regal silence and stillness

Or would she lift her wings in myriad glory, featers on water, a dainty kiss

If she beckoned you near her, and you fell to your knees

Should you cry out in joy, daring not to disturb, wishing only to please

Or would you want to take her, to make her yours forever

Would you harness her wings in their majestic power, for you were so clever

She is an angel

It would be a sin to cage her

If you see an angel in the moonlight

You have many a choice to make

To be brave, to be mindless

To be astounded, to be wound up with kindness

If you see an angel in the moonlight, sitting by the water in her sadness she weeps

Her hands are tight clenched, her wings downcast and mangled, a secret she keeps

Her tears fall to the water, her heavenly lips wordless and tacit

Because if you saw an angel in the moonlight, it would be of her loss of flight, useless, like a diamond without a facet
