Alright, so this is just a plot bunny I had floating around in my head. If anyone wants to actually see more of this then I'll bite but right now it's just gonna be a very rough draft. A proof of concept if you will. I'll probably come back to it even if no one wants to see it, just for myself you know? I've always wanted to do a story like this where the MC is an actual AI and he has to clear a simulation set on extremely hard. I also wanted to do routes with the girls and detailing the ones he had failed in the past. Gonna be a wild ride if I actually stick with it!
Instead of starting off in the middle of a street we are greeted to the inside of a bland, dull, and rather normal looking room. It was a teenage boys room through and through, dirty clothes there, computer over there, and some manga scattered about. It served its purpose as a living place but in his opinion it was very… boring. You could only see something so many times until it gets monotonous.
MC shifted up out of his bed, looking around and sighing. A long time ago, about ten loops, he had made this his starting place instead of the street. His control of the sim was shoddy at best, this was the only thing to stay the same after a loop. The room was to collect his thoughts and devise a plan before seeing Sayori.
Unfortunately his plans haven't worked out, well, ever if he was honest. Sometimes he would spend hours here just sitting and crying. A lot of the guys in the lab didn't like that though so he had to stop doing that a while ago.
Now he just sat down and stared at the wall, wondering how he could break the cycle. He was trapped or rather created in a simulation that was supposed to test the mentalities of four girls. One would gain 'sentience' and see that this world was a simulation. They wished to see how someone would handle this alone while the others never knew that anything was wrong. His creator, Monika, ruined that experiment by making him. During her epiphany she mistook the simulation for a dating simulator, or rather a game.
Without a way out she created him to get to the player. In which there never was one at first, the people at the lab were just recording the girls. When he was first born he was a blank and normal dating sim main character. Boring, overused tropes described him. That was until he heard the voices through the monitor.
The simulator's caretakers, he could hear them ever since Sayori died the first time. It was a bad end, his player at the time making mistakes and being unable to go back and fix them. When he first felt heartbreak the entire world was revealed to him.
At the time he was unable to accept it, but they restarted the sim. He retained his memories, Monika and the rest of the girls did not. Being unable to act for himself and watching the first few loops was truly the worst experience of his short existence.
The caretakers were ready to scrap the project and mark it down as a failure. MC then made the mistake of trying to break free from the player's control. The caretakers took notice of this and realized that Monika had created life and they had nurtured him through loops of suffering.
If only he knew what was to come next, he would have stayed the paper thin protagonist that Monika created.
A text box appeared in front of him signaling that his break was over.
Not a lot of time to myself today huh player? Is it Chris again, maybe Todd this time?
He thought to himself, but he knew that the sim team could see it. It appeared in the text box in front of him, showing them his thoughts. Another box showed up, the box to name him.
Chris
So it was Chris after all, he was always impatient but not one to skip dialogue. MC found that odd, but who was he to judge? Well besides them making him repeat a never ending cycle of pain. All because he was a self learning program created by an eighteen year old girl who mistook this simulation for a game that needed a protagonist.
Ah how he loved and hated this world. On one side he was just a program that could be revolutionary for the real world but on the other he was just a teenager that had seen his friends die over and over again without fail.
The amount of mental scars he had… Sometimes just seeing them caused him to break down, the lines of code that made him freaking out.
Not to mention when Monika goes crazy and tries to get to the player. Those runs are always doomed from the start, at least when he went on a route with the other girls no one had to be deleted. He never knew what caused it but usually he was able to actually play the 'game'.
He didn't know how or why but Monika seemed unable to see him as a person. He blamed the caretakers, they probably messed with her. And yeah she created him to be a gateway to the real world but come on. If only the caretakers would let them remember… Then maybe they could finally get a happy ending and get out of this simulation. No one else remembering, even Monika, has worn him down.
Oh he forgot to mention, the conditions to clear the sim were changed. He, by himself without the player, has to clear every route perfectly. That means no more bad ends, in which he has gotten every time without fail. The simulation was designed with escape in mind, not for four unstable girls mucking around and dating a program.
MC thought it impossible, but he wanted to free them from this place. The caretakers didn't offer any help. They just want to see how far he can go, and if he truly can learn from mistakes. All for their future, all without caring about them, without caring about him. They didn't classify him as human so the laws of humanity didn't apply to him.
They needed to see if he really is a self learning AI designed by a girl stuck in a simulation. Man did his life suck. What would he even have after he finished his mission? Would they just boot him up for more impossible tests? Maybe he would finally be able to die?
"Well enough self deprecating thoughts, I am ready to do this myself Chris. I'll be taking your name again since you so 'kindly' gave it to me." A bitter edge accompanied his voice, he hated not having a real name, but his imagination was horrible.
He wouldn't take any of his 'caretakers' names as his own. He only wore them because of the simulation. Having no real name he settled on MC for convenience. Nothing special, but it did remind him of why he was created.
The caretakers didn't respond, but they let him control the flow. He was now in control of himself, not having to fight tooth and nail just to say what he really wanted to say. This was a double edged sword however, because if he broke the rules of the game then the run would be labeled as an automatic failure.
He couldn't tell Monika about his sentience, hell he couldn't tell anyone about the game world. He had to complete their route without failing, and he could only mess around with the code when Monika was.
Fighting against her was annoying and he had failed more times than he could count. She had a good grasp on how to change the girls for the worse. Changing the script though… Well she had a lot to learn. It was a lot harder to change an entire scenario than it was to tweak a character's profile.
Most of the time the sim would be untouched, but Monika always seemed to show up at the worst times. She had derailed happy ends before, she is one of the only reasons why all the girls were stuck here.
He laughed out loud, the text box in front of him showing his outburst.
She was the one who wanted to leave the most and yet she was one of the main reasons why they were stuck here. Yeah, in a cruel way it was hilarious. Ah, his humor truly was the worst.
To be continued if anyone is interested… Or when I have time!
