Matt Dillon looked out the window. It was supposed to be a nice day today, which meant it was somewhere in the seventies, but the fall season was getting closer. He'd always enjoyed the season. Today was a day off from work, so his friend Chester was able to take over for the day. He's done that a few times when Matt wasn't around.

He thought of Miss Kitty, another friend of his. Today she was coming over around supper time, and they could talk about walking around to look at the leaves that are changing. Even she loved the fall season. Matt didn't have to think about how Chester did today while he had the day to himself.

Chester didn't have any problems working without him around. Last he heard, Doc was writing a story, but hasn't heard how it was turning out. Probably gave that up, Matt guessed. Matt looked out the window – partly sunny, but it was in the seventies today in Dodge City.

So far Matt had only seen a lot of green and red leaves, but the yellow should be on the way very soon. Matt thought he'd check in with Doc and see how that story of his was turning out. Doc didn't live far from the marshall's office, so it never took long to show up.

Matt wasn't expecting any class from anyone today, including Chester. Somehow Matt received a call from Chester.

"Hi there, Chester."

"Hi, Mr. Dillon. I called to let you know Miss Kitty got hurt."

"From what?"

"How am I supposed to know that? Doc is on his way over, but I thought you wouldn't feel left out if you never heard about it."

"Thanks, Chester. I'll be on my way."

"Thank you, Mr. Dillon. See you soon."

On the way over, Matt couldn't come up with any ideas of what happened to Miss Kitty. He was able to get to Miss Kitty's place very shortly. Indeed Doc was there like Chester had said.

"Are you okay?" Matt asked her.

"Yes."

"It's nothing serious, Matt. I told Chester to tell you instead of me."

It was only the first week of fall, and Matt wasn't so sure what to think about the fall colors anymore today. Miss Kitty was more important now.

"You'll need to rest for today, Miss Kitty. Maybe once you feel better, I haven't seen any sign of yellow quite yet."

"I love the yellow ones," Chester agreed.

"Both of you aren't invited and I wasn't talking to you about the leaves that are starting to change."

"Miss Kitty, you should be able to feel better in no time," Doc told her.

"Thanks, Doc."

"Is there anything on your mind you wanted to share, Matt?" Doc asked.

"I was wondering how that story of yours is turning out."

Doc knew what he was saying.

"I gave up on it. I didn't like how it turned out," he answered.

"Maybe there will be another time if there is one."

"Never say never," Chester said.

Matt and Miss Kitty agreed. That's when Doc and Chester left so that way Matt and Miss Kitty could be alone.

"Are you feeling okay?"

"Of course. I can't remember what happened. Maybe tomorrow we'll check out those leaves."

"Great idea," he said.

The next day, Matt saw Doc.

"How is she doing?"

"She is better, but doesn't remember what happened."

"That's all right. Just checking in."

"Thanks, Matt."

"She and I talked about checking out the leaves like you heard us talking about. Is she well enough to do that today?"

"Of course she is. Go have fun on enjoying your day with those leaves."

"Will do, and thanks for taking care of her."

"Glad to do it. Is she gets tired, then the day will be over."

"All right. Thanks for the update."

That's when Doc left.

Matt was grateful for all the good things that happened in his life since he was a child growing up until today, and that included his friends. Now let's go see if Miss Kitty wants to check out the leaves. It didn't take long to show up at her place. He knocked on the front door. She was able to answer the door.

"Hi, Matt. Come on in."

"Thanks, Kitty. Doc said you were feeling better today."

"Yes, I am. Do you want to check out the leaves today?"

"That's why I'm over here. He said if you get tired, then the day is over."

She understood what that meant, so he waited by the door while she was getting ready to leave with him, but it wasn't long.

So they agreed to walk instead of riding horses. Walking was the best idea for today. They both were enjoying the leaves for about half an hour, not saying much. Just enjoying each other's company was all.

Today was a nice day to enjoy company and leaves.

Once they returned to her place, she thanked him for the day.

"You're welcome. See you again soon."

"You will, Matt."
