Disclaimer-I don't own the characters or the song. Sarah and Jareth belong to Henson and company. The song Somewhere Out There is from Feival, and was created by James Horner and Barry Mann (II).
As Sarah readied herself for bed, her thoughts wandered to the labyrinth and its inhabitants. One in particular stuck out in her mind. Jareth. Fear me. Love me. Do as I say, and I will be your slave. Why did that line stick out? Sarah knew she was in love with Jareth. She'd stopped denying it several months ago. But did Jareth love her in return? she asked herself as she sat on her windowseal, looking up at the moon.
Somewhere out there
Beneath the pale moonlight
Someone's thinking of me
And loving me tonight
Jareth sat on the windowsil of his room, looking up at the pale moon over the Underground. His thoughts were, as usual, on Sarah. He conjured a crystal, calling Sarah's image into it, and smiled sadly. The girl, no woman, he loved looked as if she was praying. But for what? Him? Doubtful, but he still held out hope that that was the case. He wanted to be there now, but couldn't go to her unless she called.
Somewhere out there
Someone's saying a prayer
That we'll find one another
In that big somewhere out there
Finished with her short prayer that she'd soon have the courage to tell Jareth how she felt, Sarah looked up at the sky again, this time finding the brightest star she could see in the sky. "I wish I could relive the ball-room scene so I could tell Jareth how I felt, even if only in my dreams..." she whispered softly, the lack of the words "right now" the only thing keeping her from being transported to the ballroom imediatly.
And even though I know how very far apart we are
It helps to think we might be wishing
On the same bright star
Jareth and Sarah both fell to sleep at the same time, each hoping to have pleasant dreams of the other, each in the other's thoughts as they travled through that thin veil between wakefulness and sleep. And then they began to dream of eachother, Sarah's wish coming true.
And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby
It helps to think we're sleeping
Underneath the same big sky
Sarah looked around as she dreamed. She knew she was dreaming, and remembered the wish she had made. This time, she was going to set things right, and make sure Jareth knew how she felt about him. Sarah slowly made her way through the crowd, looking for Jareth, sliding easily into his arms when she found him. "I love you, Jareth," she whispered as they danced. "I love you, too, Sarah," he whispered back. "And don't worry, we'll both remember this dream in the morning, and all you have to do is call me, and I'll come." With that, he kissed her gently as the dance, and the dream, ended.
Somewhere out there
If love can see us through
Then we'll be together
Somewhere out there
Out where dreams come true
