Pit couldn't believe a new Smash tournament was starting in 2014. From what he'd heard years earlier, it sounded like the one in 2008 would be the final one. Nevertheless, Pit was excited. Maybe part of it was that he'd be able to show off the skills and new weapons he picked up back in 2012, but most of his excitement was about meeting new people. He was a newcomer in the last tournament, so practically everyone was new to him. This time around, he'd know everyone except for the newcomers.

The contestants started gathering at the Smash Mansion in summer 2013. Much to Pit's surprise, he was actually among the first 8 to arrive. It wasn't too odd, as he was the 6th to arrive to the 2008 tournament. In fact, he was the 6th this time as well. When the first bit of promotional footage was shot, only a dozen fighters, himself included, were available. It seemed odd that the Original Eight, dubbed the "Perfect Attendance Crew" by some, were all there except for Yoshi. As the weeks went on, more people started to arrive. Pit recognized Princess Peach Toadstool and her boyfriend, Prince Marth Lowell.

Just a week before Christmas, Master Hand announced that a new attendant had arrived. Pit was excited to see who it was. They all gathered around the door to welcome them. When Master Hand opened the door, a glowing figure floated over the ground before them. It moved inside gracefully. Master Hand closed the door and the glowing faded. It was a woman with a teal dress and platinum blonde hair, part of which covered her right eye. She was holding hands with what looked like a star-shaped pillow with eyes.

"Rosie!" Peach cheerfully exclaimed. She went to the woman for a hug. Mario and Luigi joined in welcoming this newcomer to the Smash Mansion.

"Hello, friends," she said. Her voice had a melodic, beautiful echo to it. Her friends backed away so everyone could see her. "Hello, everyone. My name is Rosalina. This is Luma." The star creature waved its hand and made a very happy noise. "We're very happy to be joining you in the tournament. May the stars shine down upon us all…"

"Welcome to the Smash Mansion, Rosalina," Master Hand said, "Princess Peach will show you to your room." Rosalina picked up her luggage and followed Peach upstairs. As Rosalina floated by Pit, he remembered seeing her back in 2012. He couldn't believe that she was here with him in the Smash Mansion.

Pit went upstairs to the Mario room. He saw Rosalina taking her belongings out of her suitcase as Princess Peach watched. He knew it would be impolite to walk in while Rosalina was putting her belongings away. Instead, he waited for Peach to leave the room. "Oh, hey, Pit," the princess said. She walked to the door. "What's going on?"

"So how do you know Rosalina?" he asked.

"Well, it a bit of a long story, but she flies a spaceship called the Comet Observatory. She helped Mario and Luigi rescue me when Bowser wanted to take over the universe." Peach looked back at Rosalina. "She also joined us when we went to the Sprixie Kingdom last year." Peach turned back to Pit. "And she loves riding motorcycles when she goes racing with us! She was so happy the upcoming grand prix allows us to ride motorcycles again! The last one didn't have them as an option."

"I see…" Pit looked at Rosalina. "See, the thing is…I actually met her before."

"You have?"

"Yes. During that last grand prix you mentioned, I met her in the Galactic Sea. She was driving along Rainbow Road."

"Well, that makes sense. She does love being in space."

Pit looked into the room. "Mind if I talk with her?"

Peach looked back at Rosalina. "Sure. I'll just get out of your way…" Peach walked out of the room, clearing Pit's way to go see Rosalina.

He walked over to her. His heart was pounding like a drum. He cleared his throat. "Rosalina?" he said.

Rosalina turned to face him. "Oh, hello." She went back to unpacking her suitcase. She realized what was going on and turned back to face him. "Pit? Is that you?"

"It is." He blushed.

"Oh, my stars…I cannot believe we're seeing each other again!"

"Same. I never thought we'd see each other again after that day." He looked down to the floor. "Why didn't you call?"

Rosalina blushed. "Oh, I apologize. I don't have a phone at my place. It's very old, and I built it before phones were invented. I suppose I could have stopped to use a payphone, though…Again, I apologize wholeheartedly."

He looked back up at her. "Oh, don't worry about it. I'm no good at talking on the phone. I'm much better with in-person communication. Except with Lady Palutena, but I'm used to her communicating telepathically with me."

"Lady Palutena…Who is she?"

"She's the Goddess of Light, ruler of Skyworld, and my master."

Rosalina giggled. "Sounds like she's a busy woman."

"She is. Hopefully, you'll get to meet her someday."

A little yellow star floated up from behind Rosalina's bed. It made some cute giggles and floated over to Pit.

"Speaking of meeting," the angel said, "Who are you?"

"I'm a Luma," the star explained, "Mama and I are gonna win this tournament!"

Rosalina patted Luma's head. "Ah, honey, don't get too far ahead of yourself," she said, "There's quite a few formidable fighters here."

"Maybe. But none of them are as strong as us!" The Luma looked back at Pit. "Who are you?"

"I'm Pit."

Rosalina spoke up, "He's the angel I met while driving on Rainbow Road."

"Oh, you're the angel that Mama was so happy about meeting."

Rosalina chuckled. "Go help Mama unpack, dear." She guided Luma back to the suitcase. "Kids," she said to Pit.

"What a little cutie," Pit said. He looked back at Rosalina. "Well, it's great getting to see you again. Good luck in the tournament, and I, uh, I guess I'll see you around." Pit knew the conversation was over, but his body refused to leave without saying more. "If you need someone to show you around…I guess I could give you a tour…"

Rosalina looked at her suitcase. "I can get the rest unpacked tonight. Why don't you show me now?" She stuck her hand out.

Pit took her hand. It was soft and warm. Her fingers wrapped around his. Her grip was gentle but firm. He tried his best to match her grip. "Right this way…" The two left the room.

"Wait for me!" Luma exclaimed.
