Chapter 3
Cassandrium

Bobby pin...
Locked door...
Thief and his raccoon...
Varian and Ruddiger were getting ready to break into someone's house.

Varian dug around in his pocket until he found the bobby pin he found outside of a tailor shop, "This should do it..." Varian bent it a certain way until it could be used for a lock pick.

He glanced at Ruddiger before he stuck the bobby pin in the lock, just to make sure he hadn't fled and abandoned the mission. Varian's hands were shaking, he had never tried to actually break into a house before and frankly, he was terrified. It took all his might not to drop the bobby pin.

"Com'on..." Varian whispered to himself as he struggled with the lock.
"Flynn Rider could have done this so much better..." He hissed underneath his breath.

Ruddiger chattered, but quietly. "Is there someone coming?" Varian fumbled the bobby pin in his hand, Ruddiger nodded. Varian quickly grabbed his bag and backpack and whipped both of them over his shoulder and then ran off in the opposite direction, heading down towards the wall surrounding the city. Footsteps grew closer, but his footsteps were going afar...

Varian finally ducked behind one of the barrels of trash and watched as two of the royal guards walked by, "I'm telling you, Stan! It was this big!" The skinny guard held his hands up, but exaggerated the size of the fish. "We should really go fishing sometime, Pete, maybe we can catch one that big!" The guard with the mustache replied.

Varian waited until they walked off before trying for the lock again.

He listened until a click of the lock had finally snapped inside the door and he carefully pushed open the door, gazing from left-to-right, investigating the room before he stepped into it. Ruddiger chattered and followed Varian inside, "Wow... This place is neat." Varian looked around.

"I'd love to have a place like this..." He muttered.
"Where I wouldn't have to worry about the rain and lose sleep over city noises..."

Ruddiger frowned and nudged Varian's ankle affectionately.
"Thanks, Ruddiger."

Varian looked around, being extra careful not to break anything or leave any signs of him breaking in. At first, it didn't appear there was anything worth taking, until Varian caught sight of a beautiful, purple gem...

"Ah~" Varian's face lit up with sheer excitement, he could sell that and make a profit, or he could have some nice jewelry to wear, he could even try and use it with his alchemy. Varian stepped over a sleeping dog and made sure Ruddiger stayed away from it.

Varian gently fondled the gem in his hands once obtaining it from the desk, "It's gorgeous..." He said softly to himself, it reminded him of...Cassandra, actually. Varian blushed and shook his head, now wasn't the time for thinking about that lovely lady from the streets.

Now was the time for stealing and being sneaky.

Varian smiled at the gem as he put it in his bag, then noticed some coins and some fountain-pens on the desk as well, so he grabbed all of those and shoved them in his bag too.

The dog rolled over slightly, which alarmed Varian and Ruddiger a bit, but the dog seemed too tired to notice, so they carefully stepped over the dog again and went to the kitchen to try and get some food to eat too. Varian found some bread, cheese, ham, lettuce and some leftover cake that seemed to be from this morning, then he put it in some paper he had in his backpack and put it in there. Varian also saw a small vase holding a wilted flower, so he took the vase and left the flower. "Okay, Ruddiger, let's go before they come back." Varian said.

Ruddiger nodded and ran off, Varian following him. Ruddiger accidentally bumped into a table, which made a loud noise and woke up the dog. "Oh no, the dog!" Varian squealed quietly.

The dog noticed Varian and then started barking and growling, "Run, Ruddiger!" Varian ran off alongside Ruddiger as the dog began chasing them, they all collectively knocked tables and vases and decorative pieces down as they ran around the house.

Varian headed to the door, and just as he reached for the doorknob, the dog bit Varian's ankle, "Ow! Stop, stop, stop, stop! That- Ow, ow, ow!" Varian shook his leg trying to get the dog to let go, Ruddiger clawed the dog and it let go, letting Varian and himself make their escape.

Varian grabbed Ruddiger, put him on his shoulder and then ran away from the house into the alleyways, hoping that the royal guards from earlier weren't on their tail.

"So, stealing from houses that have dogs is on the DON'T list!" Varian looked at Ruddiger with a expression of startlement. Ruddiger nodded in agreement quite as terrified as Varian was as he ran with him. Varian and Ruddiger retreated to their rooftop where they stayed...

"Look at this gem, Ruddiger." Varian showed Ruddiger the gem.

Ruddiger stared at it, sniffed it and then just looked at Varian confused. "Don't you see? I can sell it for profit!" Varian giggled happily, "It'll probably be worth a fortune!" He waved it around before safely putting it in his bag. "I don't know what kind of gem it is though, and that's odd because I know a lot of gems and jewels thanks to my alchemy research." He added.

"Maybe I should name it myself..." He paused... He couldn't think of a name for it though. It did remind him of Cassandra though, "Cassandrium! From now on, this is Cassandrium!" Varian proudly sat, but Ruddiger just thought he was ridiculous. "Oh, don't look at me like that, Ruddiger!" He frowned and glared slightly at the raccoon.

Varian looked down at his pants leg and noticed blood covering it, he flinched at the sight of it. "Oh, right... Dog bite... That's a lot of blood-hah-" Varian then fainted, thankfully Ruddiger pushed Varian's backpack to catch him, he was used to it by now.

Ruddiger dug around in the backpack, barely, since Varian's head was now resting on it, then pulled out a roll of bandages that was taken from the trash of the doctor's office, and then tried his best to wrap it around Varian's dog bite with his little raccoon hands...

"Theft from someone's house, huh? And you're saying it couldn't have been the two girls...why?" Cassandra raised her brow at the two guards, her arms crossed and unamused with the situation, why, if she had her way, she'd be a royal guard herself and she'd be better of a guard than Stan and Pete. Those two were idiots, or at least, she thought they were idiots, and it was kind of true.

"Well, because there was a theft supposed done by the two girls in the south side of Corona... and besides, this thief wasn't very good at covering his or her tracks." Stan informed her.

Cassandra shook her head in disappointment, but she couldn't complain because it was a valid point. "Fine, I'll tell the captain to look into it and I'll inform Princess Rapunzel." Cassandra told them. "Thank you, miss!" Pete smiled, but Cassandra walked off and didn't even say anything.

"She is so...cold." Stan crossed his arms, "I know right? Wow..." Pete sadly said.

Cassandra walked down the halls, "Idiots..." She barked to herself, referring to the two guards.
