Chapter 12
Strikers
"Hey, stay close!"
The black-haired girl barked.
"S...Sorry..."
The red-haired girl whimpered.
Two girls ran through the night of the streets, bags over their shoulders filled with loot and stolen goods, these were known as the Silent Strikers, no one could catch them stealing until after they had disappeared and had stolen the stuff already.
The black-haired's name was Kiera, but she often just went by Angry, for... obvious reasons.
The red-haired's name was Catalina, but was called Red by some people.
They noticed a open window from one of the buildings nearby and decided to sneak in through it to try and hide from the guards that were wandering around. "Help me out here, would you?" Kiera looked down at Catalina with a raise of her brow. "Of course..." Catalina proceeded to help her sister up into the window and then climbed up into the window herself.
It seemed like no one lived there, but it seemed frequented recently.
Kiera didn't care though, she plopped down on the floor next to a bunch of barrels and set her bag down. "Feel free to sit next to me." Kiera patted the floor then stretched her body out to get comfortable. Catalina limped over and sat down beside her with a warm smile on her face.
Varian could have sworn he had heard someone.
Two someones.
"Ruddiger, someone's in here!" Varian whisper-shouted at the raccoon, who was munching on a pine cone, not to eat it, just to chew on it. Ruddiger chattered and hid, along with his pine cone.
Varian hid, knocking a candlestick off of the table as he did so.
"What was that?" Kiera peered over to where she heard the sound. "You... You don't think someone's in here, do you?" Catalina stuttered. "Well they better get out, or we'll fight'em!" Kiera stood up, grabbed her bag and cracked her knuckles threateningly.
Varian watched as the two girls looked around for what they had heard; who were these little girls and why were they in Varian's newly discovered spot (that he may or may not had been considering abandoning the rooftop for) in the building?
Catalina noticed Ruddiger's fuzzy little tail and pet it, trying to figure out what it was, which startled Ruddiger and made him run off. "Ruddiger!-" Varian tried to catch him, but ended up falling on his side. "Ow!" Varian winced. Kiera dug around in her bag for a dagger and aimed it at him, "Who are you?!" Kiera hissed. "Ow, uh... I'm Varian, who are you two?" He replied.
"...M'name's Angry, and this is Red." Kiera crossed her arms after putting away her dagger. "Are you hiding from someone too?" Catalina asked. "Fellow thieves?" Varian raised a brow, "Not really hiding, but I'm thinking about making this my new, hopefully temporary, home." He added.
"So, V, what's in that bag?" Kiera looked at it. Varian grabbed his bag and clutched it to his chest, in-fear that she might take it from him, "It's just some food and a handful of coins... It's all I have, so... Please...don't take it from me." Varian glared, but it didn't seem aggressive, it was more of a... i'm-scared-but-i'm-going-to-act-brave look rather than an aggressive look.
Catalina looked at Kiera with pleading eyes, basically begging her not to. Kiera sighed, "I'm not going to take it away from you. Relax. Baby." Kiera walked off, "So what is this place, V?" She quickly changed the subject. "I'm...not sure..." Varian kept the bag to his chest.
"It looks like a dump." She spat on the floor.
"I don't think so..." Varian pouted. "I'm drawn here for some reason..."
Kiera rolled her eyes, "Okay." She sat back down near the barrels and set her bag back down.
"It's nice, quiet." Catalina said to Varian with a warm smile.
"I agree." Varian nodded, ignoring Kiera for the time being.
"Who's that? Is that your friend?" Catalina pointed at the raccoon. "Oh, that's Ruddiger. I saved him from a trap and we kind of made a deal to help each other out and be friends." Varian laughed softly, "Isn't that right, you chubby little trash thief?" Varian asked him.
Ruddiger held his pine cone and chattered, then went to greet Catalina. "Aw, hey!" Catalina giggled and began petting his head. Kiera just rolled her eyes, closed them and tried to get some sleep, then she could leave this dirty place and the idiot kid and raccoon that lived here...
