Chapter 17
Sword
"This sword, Ruddiger..."
"Do you think I should, maybe, try...and...uh..."
"Clean it up, add some cool doodads on it and...um..."
"Give it to Cassie?"
Varian asked his raccoon friend. Ruddiger was tired of hearing about Varian's attempts to impress Cassandra; hadn't he impressed her enough with the whole Demanitus Chamber exploit three days ago? Sheesh; the raccoon thought. Sheesh;
"Ruddiger, stop giving me that look, for the love of everything holy." Varian rolled his eyes. "Look, sorry, I have a crush on the girl; okay? Leave me alone. You don't get it." Varian laid down and blew a piece of his hair out of his face. "I mean, I'm a thief with nothing, and that beautiful... strong... warrior of a lady-in-waiting... She's something, at least, I think she is..." Varian sighed.
"She makes it where I can believe in myself..." Varian rolled over onto his back and looked at the ceiling, which had glow-in-the-dark stars on it. (You see, he made a type of paper that glowed in the dark, so he shaped them into stars using a pair of scissors and stuck them on the wall using some glue; he was proud of those tiny adorable stars, mind you.)
Ruddiger felt like he had heard a similar sentence to this before, perhaps in a newspaper he read that was laying on the street? "Like, I don't know how to explain it... I really don't..." Varian looked at the ceiling, staring almost. "She's the two hydrogen to my one oxygen!" Varian held his hands out.
Ruddiger knew from experience of hearing Varian's scientific rambling, that two hydrogen and one oxygen, made H2O (Water) and to be fair; Ruddiger thought that was the most horrible comparison Varian could come up with yet; and he had some horrible comparisons.
Varian held his arms on the floor, since he was no longer holding them up. "It's just something about her, I can't explain. Not even scientifically at this point." Varian closed his eyes.
Ruddiger stepped over to Varian and laid down beside him, wrapping his tail around himself.
Varian muttered before falling asleep, "I'm going to work on that sword tonight." Then he began to sleep, his mouth open; Ruddiger slept beside him...
The Captain of the Guards headed down to the dungeons to speak with Lady Caine not too long ago, and the conversation had made out to be an interesting one. She snitched, because Lady Caine wanted out, even if she was now blind and couldn't see. (She claimed she could live out there on her own, despite her vision being gone from Cassandra's attack with her sword.)
"You know where some of the wanted thieves are?" The Captain raised his brow.
Lady Caine snickered.
"Why of course I do. I'll tell you if you let me out." Lady Caine cooed. The Captain glared at the decision he had to make, but it was interrupted by Cassandra; "Dad. I wanted to inform you that Queen Arianna's wounds have fully been taken care of in the infirmary from the blizzard three days ago." She said to him. The Captain looked at Cassandra, "Thank you Cassandra. That is good to know. I wish her a quick recovery." He replied.
Lady Caine recognized Cassandra's voice and glared, her nose scrunching up in anger.
"Oh. You again. The girl that cut me right in the eyes." Lady Caine spat.
It didn't reach Cassandra, because she had stepped back before it could reach her foot. "Hello. Lovely weather out there, especially without all that snow." Cassandra smirked, teasing her.
"Y'know, Cassandra. Your little friend is probably missing you. Why don't you go visit him, hm?" Lady Caine snickered. "He's not my friend, he was an innocent person that needed protecting from your gang of thieves, thank you." Cassandra said with a growl to her voice.
"Oh honey, innocent's a strong word for those who hang out around alleyways, sweetie." Lady Caine laughed, "But, darling; whatever makes you feel better, sugar" She added.
Cassandra wasn't sure if Lady Caine's comment about Varian not being innocent bothered her more or the fact that Lady Caine used four, what she deemed annoying, nicknames in a whole two sentences. She snarled and walked out of the dungeons.
Lady Caine laughed, "Back to what I was discussing with you, Captain." She leaned against the bars. "Shall I tell you where the Silent Strikers were last seen?" She whispered coldly...
"This is pretty cool, where did you get this?" Cassandra held the black sword, that was now adorned with crystals that Varian had created using alchemy, and ribbons and strings. "Oh, it was... I got a deal on it at an pawn shop, thought you'd like it." Varian looked around nervously.
"Well, I do like it. Glad you got a good deal on it, especially on this high-quality of a sword." Cassandra stared at the sword as the sun glistened on it brightly, which made it appear blue when it was at the right angle. Varian smiled awkwardly, he had stole it, but he couldn't say that.
Cassandra looked at him when she remembered something very important, "My dad let Lady Caine out of her cell today." She said. "What?!" Varian jumped back. "Yeah, she snitched on someone and managed to be let out because of it. So I'd watch your back." Cassandra muttered.
Varian nervously began to wring his wrists. "Okay..."
He didn't like Lady Caine; no, wait; he hated Lady Caine.
"Who'd she snitch on? Her own men and women?" Varian asked.
"Unfortunately, no; she snitched on the Silent Strikers, two little girls that have been causing mayhem by stealing and seemingly disappearing." Cassandra put the black sword in the sheath behind her, since her other sword was being cleaned by the guards.
Varian's face turned into a completely terrified look.
Varian had to resist reacting like he was sad that this happened.
But he really just wanted to put his hand to his mouth and say; No...
The Silent Strikers...
Angry and Red.
