back on my bullshit (aka writing angsty drabbles) and I'm pleased with myself for it ;D
Akira doesn't remember Akechi the way anyone else does. He's not just a smiling face, perfected into plastic for the cameras. He's not just a murderous traitor, only barely redeemed in his final moments.
Akechi is a challenge and a promise and a broken heart and lies and hatred and wholly incapable of keeping up the perfect mask forever, and Akira misses the raw, ugly bits the most. If he had his way, he'd peel back Akechi's flesh, layer by fake layer, until he found the honest, disgusting center, and he'd keep it all for himself.
No one remembers Akechi the way Akira does and that's fine- grief cuts deep, deep into his heart and he keeps it safe. He'll remember the Akechi no one else saw and know that it's the closest to the real Akechi that anyone ever got.
