Chapter 1: The Wish of a God

"Whew," As soon as the last challenger for the day left, Dawn heaved a sigh of relief. Even after eight years of being a pokemon champion, the job was still tiring.

"Well fought," Dawn's Lucario spoke in her mind. She never returned Lucario to his pokeball after the battle. "You fought like a true warrior today."

"Thanks," Dawn smiled wearily at the pokemon. "I'm ready to go home, though."

"Ah yes. You were going to go on vacation starting today," Lucario recalled as he put a paw on his chin. "I do love your mother's cooking."

"You and everyone else," Dawn muttered under her breath. Luckily her mother had a lot of money left over from her coordinator days or her pokemon would have eaten her out of her own house. "Anyways, shall we get going?"

With a nod, Lucario was returned to his pokeball as Dawn walked out of the stadium.

"Thanks Togekiss," Dawn patted the large bird a couple times as she got off her back. The jubilee pokemon responded with a nod and Dawn returned her to her pokeball.

She then turned to see her house. It's been a good while since she had spent time in Twinleaf town. Most of her vacations consist of the spare time she has when she does business in other regions, so the young champion rarely had time to spend at home.

Dawn walked up to the door and knocked loudly. "I'm home!"

Dawn giggled as she heard sounds of crashing and shouting follow. The door swung open to reveal a girl in her teens. She looked a little bit like Dawn, but a bit shorter and with some less defined features.

"Welcome home, big sis!" The girl exclaimed with a smile as she tackled Dawn into a hug.

"I'm home, Akari," Dawn replied with a smile.

"Ah, if it isn't my little champion," Dawn perked up at the voice of a mature woman. Behind Akari was a woman in her late 40s with bushy hair and a knowing smile.

"Mom, I told you to stop calling me that," Dawn made a pout, but she was happy inside. She knew that her mom, Ayako, was proud of her.

"You know I'll never stop calling you that," Ayako teased as she ushered Dawn into the house. "Now, I was just making dinner, so take a seat."

"Do you have—"

"Of course I have the pokemon food too, sweetie," Ayako replied.

"Alright. Let me feed the pokemon before I join you for dinner."

Dawn placed the food browns down on the grass before pressing the buttons of all six pokeballs on her belt. Out came Lucario, Togekiss, Empoleon, Rapidash, Froslass, and Mamoswine.

"Well, dinner is served," Dawn smiled and made a gesture towards the food. "Dig in!"

"Thank you," Lucario clasped his hands together and bowed his head while the others cheered excitedly before digging in.

Dawn could feel the happiness in their auras as they ate. Although she couldn't decipher words from any pokemon other than Lucario, she was making progress with using aura to understand pokemon.

"Alright, I'm going to go eat with my family. If you guys want more, just have Lucario tell me, okay?" Dawn put her hands on her hips and puffed her chest as she addressed her pokemon with a cheery smile. The pokemon responded with muffled approval as they dug into the divine cuisine.

With that, Dawn went back into the house to see Akari and Ayako sitting at the table with curry and rice steaming and ready to eat.

"It looks delicious," Dawn smiled as she sat down. They said a quick prayer before they began to eat.

"How's work, big sis?" Akari asked almost instantly.

"It's alright," Dawn smiled at her little sister's excitement. "I get to meet a lot of interesting people. Plus, the other champions are fun to hang out with whenever I go to other regions. I also got to see Cynthia again back in Unova. Ever since she retired as champion, she started traveling around the world."

"Oh, Unova," Ayako said with a wistful look in her eye, "it was such a wonderful place to visit. That's actually how you got your name, Dawn. Your father and I—"

"We get it, mom!" Dawn hastily interrupted her mother. "You were going to name me Akari but since you just got back from Unova you decided to name me Akari in Unovan. You've told us a million times."

"Awh, I just love telling the story," Ayako slumped down and her two children laughed.

"So have you decided what you want to do?" It was Dawn's turn to ask the career question.

"Yep!" Akari's face instantly brightened. "I got an internship at a pokeball manufacturing company in Sunnyshore city!"

"Wow, Sunnyshore is quite far," Dawn rubbed her chin. "Also, isn't fifteen a bit young to be working a factory job?"

"I'm not working a factory job. I'm training to become an engineer," Akari puffed her chest in pride.

"I always knew you were a smart cookie," Dawn reached over to rub Akari's head.

"Hey, I'm not a kid anymore!" Akari pouted.

"Enjoy your youth while it lasts, Akari," Ayako said with a smile. "Soon you'll be wondering where it all went."

"Ugh, love you mom," The two siblings rolled their eyes. Despite this, Ayako giggled in response.

"So how long are you on vacation?" Ayako asked.

"I have a week," Dawn replied as she sat back down and continued to work on her curry. "I'm planning on heading over to Professor Rowan's tomorrow so I can check on my Pokemon. Maybe we can go to Hearthome together the day after and watch a couple of shows."

"That sounds wonderful!" Ayako clasped her hands together. "I would love to see how the coordinating scene is today."

"You okay with that, Akari?" Dawn asked. Akari rubbed her chin and thought for a moment before nodding. "Then that's that. I'm gonna head off to bed. I have an early day tomorrow."

"Goodnight, honey," Ayako said and Akari waved as Dawn went back out to retrieve her pokemon.

"Focus on Empoleon's aura," Lucario said. Although Dawn said she was turning over early, she was working on her aura with Lucario. "Can you hear anything?"

"I can feel her encouragement, but I can't make out any words. I can hear some incoherent mumbling, though," Akari responded. A bead of sweat formed on her brow as she continued to focus intently.

"She says she's not mumbling. You're getting there, but you're not quite there yet," Lucario translated Empoleon's words. "Hm… how about this. Try focusing on the bond the two of you have. It'll help your aura adapt to Empoleon's."

"Alright," Dawn said before squeezing her eyes. Empoleon was Dawn's very first pokemon. Eight years ago, Dawn received a young Piplup from Dr. Rowan in her quest to complete the pokedex. Piplup was there for the entirety of Dawn's journey. From the gyms, to the Elite Four, to the forces of time and space and Team Galactic. She then reached out to Empoleon's aura once again.

"-awn. Dawn? Can you hear me?" A female voice that sounded like someone in her mid-20s spoke in Dawn's head.

"Empoleon, is that you?" Dawn's eyes flew open to look at her partner.

"Oh, you can finally hear me!" Empoleon smiled and flapped its wings softly. "I would jump for joy, but I'm sure your family is asleep by now."

"Sleep, huh?" In the heat of the moment, Dawn didn't realize how heavy her eyes were getting. "That sounds like a good idea."

Before she knew it, Dawn had fallen asleep.

"Dawn, Dawn!" Dawn was rudely awoken when her mother grabbed her and shook her.

"What gives, mom?!" Dawn sat up with an irritated look on her face. She was sure that there were bags under her eyes considering how tired she was and the last thing she needed was her mom freaking out over something trivial.

"Akari's missing!" Ayako said, trying her best not to shout. "She's not anywhere in the house!"

Scratch that. The last thing Dawn actually needed was to find out that her younger sister was missing. She shot out of bed Without saying a word to her mother, she bolted down the stairs and out the door, two pokeballs in hand. When she threw them, Togekiss and Lucario burst out of their containers.

"Lucario, are you familiar with Akari's aura signature?" Dawn asked.

"I am. She has quite a lot of latent potential," Lucario remarked.

"Well, she's missing. You and Togekiss fly around and try to find her," Dawn decided to ignore Lucario's thoughts on Akari and ponder on it later.

"Alright, let's go," Lucario jumped up on Togekiss' back and flew off. Dawn then brought out Rapidash and jumped on his back.

"Rapidash, Akari's missing. I need your help to find her." Dawn looked at Rapidash with steely determination.

"-stood," A male voice spoke in Dawn's head. Dawn smiled as she realized her improvement. As Rapidash sped off, she closed her eyes. She couldn't tell individual pokemon and people that she didn't know from the aura of her surroundings, she could pinpoint auras from those she had a bond with if they were a short distance away.

"I hope we find her soon," Dawn whispered a prayer as the two sped off into the distance.

"Dawn, you need to rest," Lucario caught Dawn as she fell over. They were back in Twinleaf town after searching the entirety of the region with the help of the Elite Four, the gym leaders, and a bunch of other people.

"I can't," Dawn mumbled groggily. She was forcing her eyes to stay open. "What if she's in danger?"

"Dawn, it's been four days," Rapidash spoke up. Since the two had spent a lot of time together in the past few days, Dawn had a much easier time understanding him. "Even if she was in danger, you won't be able to save her like this."

"B-but," Dawn muttered in protest. She tried to push herself up, but she couldn't find the energy.

"I'm sorry, Dawn, but you need your rest. You're no good to anyone like this," Dawn heard the voice of a young girl followed by a yawn. Dawn automatically yawned in response.

"Togekiss…?" Dawn mumbled. Her eyes were starting to close, despite Dawn's silent protests.

"It's me, Dawn. Just rest for now. We'll find Akari when you wake up." Togekiss replied. Dawn wanted to say something, but she couldn't even open her mouth. She closed her eyes and a single tear fell from her cheek as she drifted off to sleep.

"Dawn," Dawn was awoken by a booming voice. She opened her eyes to see that she was floating in an endless void. A bright light started to glow in front of her and Dawn had to shield her eyes from its brightness. When it subsided, Dawn found herself face to face with Arceus, the Creator of All.

"Arceus," Dawn looked up at the deity. "I'm guessing that you need something from me."

"Yes," The almighty pokemon spoke again. "It has been four days since I sent your sister back in time. It seems that she—"

"Hold on, you what?" Dawn felt rage bubbling up inside of her. All-powerful deity or not, if someone decided to whisk Akari away, they would answer to Dawn's wrath.

"It seems that she isn't performing to the standards I expected her to," Arceus continued as if Dawn had not spoken. "She seems to be struggling in the quest I have assigned her. I expected her to perform well, considering who her sister is."

"So you sent a child back in time to do some quest for you?!" Dawn shouted at the god. "What were you thinking?! Did you even consider how she's feeling right now?!"

"It was a factor in my calculations, but since you turned out fine, I concluded that there was nothing to worry about," Arceus replied.

"Fine?!" Dawn shouted. "I'm still dealing with everything that happened with Team Galactic! I can't believe you!"

"I see," For the first time, Arceus stopped talking to ponder on what Dawn was saying.

"Regardless, I was going to ask you to aid your sister in her quest to catch all the pokemon in the ancient Hisui region," Arceus spoke after a few moments of silence.

"Well, I should be grateful that you're at least giving me this opportunity," Dawn muttered. "I want to bring my pokemon, though. I won't be doing this alone."

"I was not going to allow you to bring your pokemon with you, but I owe you a debt for saving the universe from team Galactic," Arceus replied after a moment of tense silence. "For now, I will allow you to bring one pokemon of your choice. As you two progress, I will give you access to more of your pokemon."

"Why can't you just give me all of them?" Dawn asked indignantly. "Why go through the work of giving me access to them one at a time?"

"A quest is not a quest without hardships," Arceus replied simply.

Stupid gods and their stupid rules, Dawn thought to herself. Alright, which pokemon should I bring?

Her first thought was Empoleon. If she went somewhere, her partner pokemon almost always followed. But would Empoleon be a good choice in the long run? Since she will only have one pokemon, she needs to also be able to rely on herself. She needed a pokemon that would help her get stronger.

"Lucario," Dawn finally decided. Since Lucario was her tutor in the ways of using aura, she could continue learning in the ancient times with Lucario by her side.

"It shall be done," A bright light formed around Dawn. When it subsided, a pokeball was in front of her, except the pokeball looked a little different. The bottom was a different color and the design was a little more crude. Dawn grabbed the pokeball and nodded.

"One more thing before I send you back," Arceus boomed. Dawn's phone then floated out of her pocket. Before she could ask what it was, the phone started to glow and morph until it was white with Arceus' rings added onto the phone.

"This is the Arc Phone," Arceus explained as the phone drifted into Dawn's other hand. "I will use it to communicate with you and it will help you along your journey."

"Thanks," Dawn replied begrudgingly. Sure, the phone was cool and all, but she didn't feel like she should be thanking Arceus for the heap of trouble that he just put her and her sister through.

"Go forth, my champion, and fulfill my will," Arceus declared. The void started to glow and brighten until Dawn's world was completely enveloped by white.

Hello! Welcome to my first shot at a Pokemon fic. I just wanted to clarify Dawn's team choice before anything. I took three Pokemon from the manga, two Pokemon from the game, and I put Lucario in there because in this fic, Dawn is an aura user. I hope you enjoy this fic! Please leave all thoughts and comments in the reviews. Thank you
