"What am I doing here?" mumbled Lily, to herself, as she walked slowly through the mass of confusion that was platform nine and three-quarters. All around her kids were rushing here and there lugging heavy trunks, saying bye to their parent, meeting up with there friends and generally just making a great deal of noise. She noticed that everyone seemed to know at least one other person and that they were just laughing and joking around, everyone that was except her.
James Potter was one of these people; he was surrounded by a large group of kids including his best friends Sirius, Remus and Peter. He was in the middle of telling a funny story about something that had once happened to him when something, someone caught his eye. She was beautiful with startling green eyes and flaming red hair, he just knew that he wanted to get to know her, and soon.
James's friends noticed him go quiet and saw him staring past them at someone, they followed his gaze. Sirius laughed out loud,
"We've not even been here five minutes and James has already got his eye on someone, typical!" he joked, everyone laughed even James, although he had started to blush slightly.
But James had not gone unnoticed, Lily had seen him as well. How handsome she thought to herself, with that shock of thick, unruly, jet black hair and that cheeky grin. I could really get to like it here, she thought secretly smiling to herself.
Lily said goodbye to her parents as it was time to board the train, then she struggled as she dragged her heavy wooden trunk to the train. She turned round to get another look at her parents who were stood arm in arm smiling and waving at her. Suddenly a new wave of weirdness crashed over her, and she found herself asking again, what am I doing here? I can't be a witch, I'm a muggle, this is just a dream, it can't be really be real, and any minute I'm gonna wake up in my own bed at home.
She turned back round again and came face to face with the lad she'd seen earlier, the handsome one with jet black hair. The wave of weirdness that she had felt a minute ago vanished and all her doubts disappeared, she couldn't wait to start.
Wow! James thought as she turned round to face him, she looks even better up close, and those eyes! There amazing!
"Hi" said James grinning trying not to look as nervous as he felt. He suddenly had a horrible thought, what if she doesn't talk to me? Or even worse what if she just laughs at me?
"Hi" replied Lily shyly, trying to smile. Why's he talking to me, when he could be talking to anyone?
"Hi" he said again, "my names James" god, she's got such a sweet smile! "and you are?"
"Lily"
"Nice name"
"Thanks" mumbled Lily, smiling even more now, this was a good sign, right?
"I was just wondering wether, erm, you, erm neede any help loading your trunk? James tried to say all this casually, but it didn't work, he just ended up rushing and stuttering at the same time. Something he never normally did, he mentally kicked himself for making himself sound like an idiot.
"It's just that it looks a bit heavy, and I thought you might need some help" he grinned hopefully at her.
Yes, please, thought Lily.
