The Beginning
Falling, cut down and separated, it was done. It bled red strands of soft thought. Unraveled, it was lost in a sea of dust and grime, never to be whole again. Snatched up by the lowly beggar, the fallen was taken to their "home" to be cared for and cherished. It was the ribbon cutting of the new opera stage. Everyone from the naked avenger, to the lost soul yelling, "But you Jiminy Cricket, by George, I think you've been hit by a mad man baby!" to a new father across the street tangling with his tiny son, and even the insolvent Court Jester who sang ode's to cheese such as "'Meow!' the cat said to the caviar-eating man 'I shall catch the mouse to steal that cheese lickety-split!'" had made an appearance at the christening. Alanna was a casual observer to all this at the arm of her precious Baron. Jon had invited the Baroness and her Baron to the christening since it was one of the biggest events that Tortall had witnessed in a long time. Though she was slightly perturbed at her monthly friend coming for a visit, she had wrapped herself well with padding and didn't worry about leaking under her short, magenta, satin dress so she chose to put that minor annoyance out of her mind. The vast seen before her eyes was mesmerizing: Polished hardwood floors stretched for thousands of square feet, stain glass windows filtered light into the dim arena, and grand woodwork, a huge iron door almost like the Chamber's, and soft-cushioned pillow on cherry benches completed the perfect picture. Jon and Raoul as a team are shocking but Jon and Raoul, as an architectural team is downright scary! Alanna thought, moments later voicing her thoughts to George. "Yes, my dear, my thoughts exactly!" George said in response to her ponderous quarry. After much exploring with her Baron, Alanna branched off on her own to search for merry convo. Seeing Thayet, Alanna rushed over to embrace her friend. After hugs and funny faces imitating there male counterparts as an inside joke, they engaged in a thoughtful conversation about what was the proper way to unhook a fish from a line.
Seeing Jon, George sauntered over and reached for a small box inside his tall, black, riding boot. Only he knew about the broach in the box shaped like the royal symbol that he had asked to be made special for the king. The broach was diamond, emerald, and ruby incrusted and the sword in the symbol was specially crafted to match Roald's and he had found Numair and asked him to magick it with the most powerful protection spell possible. "Ahem" George quietly petition to Jon turned back. Slowly turning around, it took a moment and then the two men embraced.
"It's been so long you ole' Rouge." Jon said jocularly.
"Your correct, it has been many a moon but I happened to hear about your eldest son's betrothal. I couldn't pass up the chance to again show you my bountiful gratitude." George said, handing Jon the neatly wrapped parcel.
"If the ring is like the one you got me for I will be hurt since I was told it was 'one of a kind'" The King scolded.
"Rouge's honor that it is nothing like yours, for fact, it isn't even a ring!" George retorted with mock haughtiness.
"Rouge's have honor?" Was Jon's witty reply. After much more chatter one both the Baroness and Baron's accord, George and Alanna linked arms and left for the Swoop once again, both at peace with themselves and their lives.
