Dragonborn and the Fair

Summery

So this fic was inspired by me reading a few skyrim fanfics. It's gonna be an Elisif romance one always had a soft spot for her. Keep in mind it's been years since I've played Skyrim so most of the dialogue will be my own and if I forget any key points please point them out. As for the Dragonborn himself, he is a bit of a strange one. He is a Male Nord, the rest will be described in the first few chapters. This is obviously AU from the game, not just that it's an Elisif pairing but the Dragonborn himself is very different in his origins and who he is then the game version.

Chapter One Old Friend

Elisif the Fair sat bored on her throne she was half listening to her steward Falk. Ever since her husband Torygg was killed she just wasn't interested anymore. Roaming her eyes over the other members of the court she spotted a commotion by the entrance to the palace, she could see a strangely familiar man dressed in armor as black as night, his left arm had a weird black gauntlet that didn't match the rest of his armor and had runes carved into it with a weird staff strapped to his back and a sword made out of some type of bone. She could see that he was arguing with two guards. He reached up and removed his hood and Elisif's heart skipped a beat, she recognized the man he had one blue eye and one green that she would never forget.

"Forgive me steward but there is a matter I must attend to." Elisif interrupted Falk in whatever he was telling her. Getting up she half walked half run towards the man. He saw her coming and shouldered past the guards. She practically leaped into his arms, Neo, her childhood best friend, had come home.

"I'm so sorry I couldn't come sooner." He whispered into her ear, she just sobbed quietly into his shoulder. She had known Neo since they were children while she was of high birth and he was low class. She had caught him stealing an apple from a merchant she was going to turn him in but then she saw him give the apple to another kid. She had been both amazed by his skill and selfeness. She had introduced herself to him and the two had become fast friends. Torygg had loved him like a brother and taught him everything that he knew. The three together became a common sight in Solitude, into one day when Neo had simply disappeared. A search had been carried out but they came back empty handed. Now here he was 8 years later.

Taking a moment to compose herself she finally let him go although she still kept hold of his hand. She led him back towards her throne where her advisors and thanes were staring at the two opened mouths.

"My apologies, but I must postpone court for today. A very old friend has returned." She said as she expected Erikur protested.

"My Jarl, this cannot wait! These matters require your immediate attention!" He almost shouted at her, she thought of what to say but Neo stepped past her.

"And who are you to speak to the Jarl in such a way peasant?" Erikur looked furious.

"I'm a Thane! And who are you to speak to me in such a way?" Neo just smiled.

"My name is Neo Dragonbane, some of you might know me as the Dragonborn, I'm also the Arch Mage to the College of Winterhold and Harbinger to the Companions. Some people call me the Bear of Whiterun" Neo said with a smile at that title. Normally Neo didn't like to shout his titles around but this man had insulted Elisif and nobody insulted Elisif when he was around. Erikur paled as he realized that he had just insulted a living legend.

"O of course Dragonborn, My Jarl." Erikur said and left, the others following him. Elisif, still hand in hand with Neo, led him to her bedchamber where they could speak in private. Upon entering she leapt into his arms again taking him by surprise. She had known he was alive for a while now since he had become Thane of Whiterun he had been sending her letters telling her of his adventures he had promised to come to her in person but had many pressing duties that he simply could not ignore. When Ulfric had murdered Torygg she had been left alone no more friends in the world no one to confined in and trust. Now a friend had been returned to her she thanked the gods for bringing him back home.

"Divines I've missed you so much Neo." She said overcome with emotion and sobbing into his shoulder again now letting them come easily. He held her stroking her ponytail.

"You have no idea how hard it was to not abandon everything and ride as fast as I could here." He said, his voice deep but gentle and loving. She let go of him and took a step back to study him. It had been 8 years since she had seen him and he had changed so much but at the same time hadn't. He was tall even for a Nord; he stood 7 ft tall and was very muscular. His arms were basically tree trunks. In short he was a bear of a man, she understood how he had gained the title of Bear of Whiterun. He had short blonde hair. On his face just below the left eye was a small scar and a larger one on his right cheek. She had also noticed while hugging him that he generated an insane amount of heat.

"You have grown tall." She remarked, he looked her over and smiled at her with that smile that she had grown to love so much.

"Your hair is in a ponytail." and she burst out laughing. Of course he had to comment on her hair, he always knew what to say to make her laugh.

"What is this Arch Mage business?" She asked last she knew he had been accepted into the College.

He told her all that had happened to him in the last few months. Finding the Eye of Magnus and then the previous Arch Mage's death and Ancano's betrayal and defeat, finding the Staff of Magnus which he now carried. And then the other teachers promoted him to the position of Arch Mage.

"So you're an all powerful mage now?" She asked, smiling. They had moved to one of her sofas, she was laying down with her legs resting on Leo's lap. A potionion that they often found themselves in when they were teenagers which showed the closeness of the pair.

"Among other things." He said almost in a whisper, she sat up and looked at him closely.

"What's that mean?" She asked worriedly at his tone.

"I have some down time while contacts of mine search for information on Alduin, a few weeks maybe a month. I would like to spend that time here in Solitude with you." He paused to look at her, and she nodded agreement.

"And after the Dragons have been dealt with I would very much like to come live in Solitude." He announced, she gasped a little and a very large smile spread over her face at the prospect.

"But there are some things that you should know about me that might make you want me to leave, if that is your choice I will go and never return." She opened her mouth to try and say that nothing would ever make her want that but he held up a hand to stop her.

"Let me say my piece before my courage deserts me." He said and she nodded wondering what could be so bad that he thought there was a chance she would want him to leave.

"First of all, I'm a werewolf, I wasn't turned or cursed, I was born one, one of my parents was one." He paused to let that sink in.

"That means you were one when we knew each other." She said but he shook his head.
"I didn't know about it after I was kidnapped and I turned 18. It was my first transformation, as you know my mother disappeared and my father was killed when I was born." She frowned.

"You said one of your parents was a werewolf." He nodded, taking a deep breath; he was about to drop his biggest secret only a few people in the Thieves Guild knew.

"My father was the werewolf, my mother is Nocturnal the Daedric Prince of Night and Darkness. I'm part Daedric." He said, shaking her into silence he was watching her closely.

"And the people who kidnapped me were the Thalmor I never found out why, they held me in some keep for mouths torturing me trying to break me for some foul purpose I was never made aware of. I was rescued by Nocturnal after she found me somehow the Thalmor had managed to hide me from her and she took me to her Realm Evergloam. There she healed me and once I was well enough to tell me she was her mother, I met my father there as well. Nocturnal had bargained for his soul from Hircine. I then spent months training there, my mother teaching me how to be the best thief and my father Leikr teaching me to control my werewolf side, as a pureblood I have an easier time than most." He stopped, she hadn't made a sound since he began. He sat there in silence for several minutes. Eventually he stood up and made his way to the door. When she still didn't make a sound he opened it and looked at her. She was looking at him wide eyed, he sighed figuring this last bit couldn't make it any worse.

"I have a room at the Winking Skeever, send a messenger when you have an answer." He paused and then conturned.

"You'll always have my heart El." he confessed as he moved out of the room, tears flowing down his cheeks. He heard a gasp of surprise before he shut the door. It felt good to finally tell her after all these years, he had loved her since they were children but being lowborn as he was he knew he couldn't hope for any sort of relationship with her he was lucky she was willing to be his friend. And when Torygg had begun to court her, he knew it was only a matter of time before they married and would have no time for their 'sewer rat' friend. And then the Thalmor had kidnapped him and taken him away. Now he was back, but he had wanted to tell her the truth about himself so if she found out later on she didn't think he had betrayed her by keeping it to himself.

Walking back to the Winking Skeever he entered his room and found Lydia sitting on one of the chairs in the room, she gestured to the bed and he sat down.

"How did she take it?" she asked, he had told her everything about himself including the fact he loved her. They had been through a lot together and Neo hadn't wanted any secrets between them. Neo looked up at her.

"She was in shock of course anyone would be hearing a childhood friend is a werewolf and part Daedric." He sighed sadly.

"Not the part I was asking about." Lydia remarked.

"I was leaving when I told her I love her. I didn't see her reaction apart from a gasp of surprise." He said he unbuckled his sword Nightingale Blade and learned the Staff of Magnus on the wall next to his bed. He began to unbuckle his Nightingale armor.

"I told her that I have a room here and to send me a message with her answer. Hopefully by tomorrow." Neo said, Lydia nodded looking at her Thane sadly. She prayed to the gods that Elisif would accept him. He had told her his love for the Jarl when he told her he was a werewolf and son of a Daedric Prince shortly after becoming Arch Mage. If Elisif rejected him it would break him she knew, she only hoped that he would still be able to fight if she did. He finished removing his armor and had only his stanared clothes on.

"Come on, let's go get something to eat." He said, leading the way downstairs. He ordered beef stew for them both and a tankard of mead. He then led Lydia to a small table in the corner and she noticed that he picked one that had three seats with it. She smiled to herself. She was willing to bet he didn't even know he did it. She noticed that a bard was in the tarven so far he had only played his lute without singing but after a while he glanced over and saw Neo and his eyes went wide, he changed his tune and started singing Dragonborn Comes. Neo sighed and finished off his mead. Lydia laughed at him

"Don't like the song?" She asked him innocently and he glared at her.

"Not after hearing it a million times." He grumbled and she laughed again. The door opened and there was a gasp of surprise from the whole room when the bard stopped mid-song in shock. Elisif the Fair and Bolgeir Bearclaw had just entered, both looking like they had run all the way from the palace. Elisif made a beeline to Neo Bolgeir following behind her, Neo stood up and braced himself for the worst. He hadn't expected her to come herself; the only reason he could think of was she was going to banish him from her hold in person. She smiled as she got closer. Neo, confused, opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted when Elisif rushed the remaining distance and kissed him deeply. For a few seconds Neo was confused, not sure what was happening but then recupitecated the kiss. Everyone in the Inn cheered for their Jarl and their Hero, most of them had been informed by the older generation that Neo and Elisif were old friends. Elisif finally broke off the kiss when she needed air and smiled at Neo still looking slightly confused.

"Stay." She whispered to him and he broke out into a huge grin. She looked over to Bolgeir.

"I think I might be staying here tonight. Bolgeir would you be so kind as to let Falk? After you have the rest of the night off, I dare say tomorrow as well." She said grinning, he looked at her like she had gone mad.

"My Jarl, surely you don't intend to stay in this place without protection?" He asked and her smile grew even larger.

"I'm in the company of the Dragonborn. I'm sure I'll be protected just fine." She answered he grumbled and didn't look happy about it but evendelty left. She turned back to Neo.

"You have a room upstairs?" He nodded and led her upstairs. A short while later their meals arrived at the table, the waiter looking confused to see just Lydia there.

"My friend is occupied at the moment. I'll keep his dinner for me." She told him with a smile. She knew Neo wouldn't be coming back down tonight.

Authors Note

So yeah a few changes for the game for one the Dragonborn knew both Elisif and Torygg as kids, he is a pureblood werewolf and son of Nocturnal. It will be further explained as to what that all means in further chapters, Basically the 'quest lines' that he has done are the companies, college of winterhold and the thieves guild. For the main quest line he is basically up to the point where he has learned about Dragonrend but has got the Blades and Greybeards researching on how to learn the shout instead of just being told about it. I wanted him to be able to have a break to visit Elisif.
