Welp...This took way longer to finish than I thought it would! I even had it planned out in my head beforehand! I guess I just didn't expect the last few weeks to get so busy. Oh well, I've finished it now, and I quite like how it turned out.
This'll be my last Majora's Mask kiss scene. I was debating whether or not to do one between Majora and the Fierce Deity, but there's a lot to unpack with that potential romance, so I've decided that it's best told in a more long-form story sometime in the future. Up next, it's on to Twilight Princess, and I have a whole lot of scenes planned for that!
I haven't done this in the last few scenes I've posted, but it always bears remembering. We wouldn't have stories like Legend of Zelda to captivate us without the toil and dedication of everyone at Nintendo. Those guys really deserve so much appreciation from us!
Lastly, as always, I'd be thrilled to see your reviews! If you like this, leave a review. If you've got suggestions on how to improve, leave a review. I love reading y'all's reviews, so the more the better! Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy this little scene I've put together!
The smooth, angelic tones of an ocarina seemed to float through the two-story farmhouse from somewhere not too far outside. Inside it was still dark; dawn was just beginning to come over the world, and Romani Ranch, set in a steep-sided basin, was only afforded the dim grey light that preceded the sunrise.
Yet seventeen-year-old Cremia didn't mind the gentle wakeup call. She was accustomed to rising before the sun to begin the daily tasks that came with running a ranch. Indeed, the lovely music coming through her bedroom window was far more pleasant than the harsh crowing of cuccos. As her eyes fluttered open, she sighed with a contented smile. Ever since that young Hylian boy had begun living at the ranch and helping out, she found her work became much less stressful, between the extra set of hands helping with the cattle, guarding her on her delivery runs to Clock Town, and playing with Romani when necessary.
This music was yet another improvement, she thought as she sat up in bed. Then, as she rose to her feet, she paused. The tune was not coming from the ground outside. It sounded as if it were originating from higher up.
She shrugged. Link had always been a curious little fellow, with sometimes an air of enchantment about him, but nothing of that sort had ever come to light. This was probably just her mind, just coming out of sleep, playing tricks on her. Unhurriedly, she slipped out of her nightgown and donned her attire for the day, already laid out beside the bed.
It took her around five minutes to dress herself, before she left her room and padded down the stairs, careful not to wake Romani. The ocarina music was still playing, but Romani was a heavy sleeper; Cremia doubted she'd be awakened by it.
As she went out the front door and turned toward the barn, she stopped again. There was a tall wooden ladder leaning against the eaves of the barn roof. Normally it would be stored just inside the barn door. The ocarina was still playing, and now Cremia could clearly tell it was not coming from ground level. Now curious, she made her way to the ladder and began to ascend.
Sure enough, there was Link, sitting atop the ridge of the roof, his back to her as he played his ocarina. Cremia was only surprised for a second or two. While it was odd for one so small to be comfortable at such a height, this was the same boy who traveled well-armed and routinely guarded her milk shipments. Link was clearly made of sterner stuff than the average ten-year-old.
As his song drew to a close, Cremia finally spoke. "That's a lovely tune, Link," she greeted. "Where'd you learn it?"
Link turned his upper body to look back at her. "An old friend taught it to me when I was growing up," he replied. "Care to join me? The sun should be rising soon."
Normally, Cremia would be all business at this time of day. There were a surprising number of tasks that were best done before breakfast. But she felt she could use a break this morning, and Link was such a sweet, friendly lad, so she made her way up next to him and sat down.
As she did so, she found another question to ask: "So, why come up here to play?"
Link looked back up at her. "I can stop coming up here if it makes you feel better," he said, sounding a little apologetic and misinterpreting the point of her question.
She shook her head. "It's fine," she replied, "I was just curious."
Link nodded once, very subtly, then turned back to face east, as he had been before. "I like to watch the sunrise," he explained. "Today's should be pretty nice. This is the first time I've come up here with this ocarina though."
Cremia smiled. That was yet another endearing thing about the pointy-eared kid. He was no rowdy city boy; he could appreciate the simple beauty of a sunrise.
And then he continued, "I suppose I like sunrises 'cause I get to look east to see them."
Cremia tilted her head. This sounded like it might reveal yet another layer to who Link was. So she probed, "I take it there's something important for you in the east?"
Link nodded. "I grew up way east of here. You ever heard of a country called Hyrule?"
The redhead shook her head slowly. "Never," she answered. "It must be quite far from here."
Link smiled sadly. "I was looking for a friend," he explained, "when I fell into a deep hole. When I woke up, I was inside the clock tower. I don't really know where Hyrule is from here, but the desert east of Clock Town is a lot like the desert west of Hyrule, so I figure…maybe they're connected somehow. Not that it'd do me much good. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back, at least, not for a long time."
Cremia grimaced, laying a hand on Link's shoulder and pulling him into an embrace from there. "You must've left everyone behind," she observed, and Link nodded, laying his head on her shoulder. "Do you miss them?" she asked.
A few seconds went by before Link answered, "Yeah, I do. I don't think a day goes by without me thinking of them, wishing I could go back and see them all." Cremia smiled sadly, running her fingers through his messy blond locks. This continued for a few quiet minutes as the eastern sky began to grow more colorful. The grey completely disappeared, replaced by the deep indigo of the pre-dawn, blending into pink, then red at the rim of the basin.
"It's not all bad, though," Link continued unexpectedly, wrapping his arms around Cremia's waist and leaning further into her hug. "I got to meet you, after all." Cremia's cheeks developed a faint pink tint, both from him returning her embrace (he was normally rather shy about that sort of thing), and from the delivery of that statement. His tone had been uncharacteristically affectionate, as if he were confessing to a crush.
Wait… Was he? It seemed bizarre for someone as young as him to even feel that way about anyone. And yet, as she'd noted earlier, he often acted far older than he seemed.
Only one way to find out, she mused.
"Hey, Link," she inquired after another minute or so, "I can't help but wonder…Do you like me?"
She felt Link tense at the question, his eyes going wide as he finally leaned away. She could see a blush working its way into his face now. Then he looked down awkwardly. "Well…yeah," he answered. "You're pretty, you're really friendly, and…well…everything feels like it'll be fine when you're around…Oh, and you give amazing hugs."
They were both blushing at this point. Cremia, frankly, wasn't entirely sure what to make of Link's confession. He was young, that was certain. But she preferred his confession to the last one she received from some random man in Clock Town. That one had made her quite uncomfortable. Clearly, Link wouldn't be like that.
She smiled. "Link, that was really sweet," she commented fondly, pulling him back into one of her warm, tight embraces that he seemed to enjoy so much. Then she took it a step further, moving an arm under his legs and pulling him into her lap, bringing him as close to her as she could. Link, for his part, leaned as far into the hug as he could, wrapping his arms tightly about her and nestling his face into the side of her neck. Cremia had no idea he could be this affectionate, but she certainly wasn't complaining.
And then she took things still further, moving one hand to tilt Link's chin up as she leaned her face down towards his.
Link hadn't really been expecting Cremia to feel for him the way he felt for her. So when her lips softly met his, his eyes went wide for a couple seconds, especially when the redhead didn't pull away. But then the sensations of being kissed started to flood through him, and he began kissing back.
Cremia, for her part, was surprised at how soft Link's lips were, for a boy. But once again, she wasn't complaining. Especially when, with a longing whimper, he fully surrendered himself to her, moving his lips in time with hers. She made sure not to kiss him too intensely; it would be a few years yet before he'd be ready for that. But even so, she found herself enjoying the contact between them. She could feel his heart beat against her rib cage, quick and hard from the sensations he must have been feeling. He clung tightly to her, holding on for dear life and warming her up, and the way he'd almost desperately lean his face in each time their lips parted sent fire through her veins. She smiled in the midst of their kisses. She was enjoying this, she decided, and definitely wouldn't mind doing it again in the near future.
It was several minutes before she finally brought herself to pull her lips away from Link's, and when she did, she could hear him panting slightly. He was gazing back up at her, flushed and star-struck. She gave him one of her lovely, warm smiles in return, before shifting him in her lap and running her fingers through his hair once more.
The pink and red bands across the sky were now turning to bright gold towards the horizon as the two snuggled up and turned their gazes eastward. With fond smiles for each other, the two settled in and watched as the rim of the sun finally began to peek over the rim of the basin.
