Blossom knew that her life was on the line, especially while she was being thrust into a situation. A situation of greed and horrors unbeknownst to her. She grabbed on tightly to her large wooden stake, carved sharply enough to plunge into the hearts of evil. That evil was Vampires.
Vampires were something of a mythos or cryptid. Nobody legitimately believed in the existence of creatures who infected others by biting into their necks, having only a thirst for blood and a taste for the flesh of the mortal. They had their weaknesses, like garlic and stakes being plunged into their hearts. But nobody thought they were real, these were all myths pushed by conspirators.
Until one fateful day, a day of apocalypse and of even worse things soon to come. Vampires were real. The day started fairly normally for Blossom. She woke up and scratched the top of her head. She looked besides her to her two sisters, Buttercup and Bubbles.
Her sisters were still sleeping, their positions in the bed being fully mismatched. It left Blossom up to be the designated waker of her sisters. She was 19 and 1/2, a fully legal adult who had her and her sisters move out of their fathers house right, since they all had relatively well paying jobs without them being jobs, as well as being endorsed by the Mayor of the city.
They were all well off enough to live by themselves, just the three of them. Blossom felt as though it was something she had always thought of since they were young children, they would be able to live together with just the three of them and have adventures like they always did. She knew it was an idolized future, yes. But she wanted to keep that fantasy up in her mind.
She pulled on her sister Bubble's pigtail, compared to Blossom's long red-head of hair, Bubble's was more childish compared to her more mature composure and hairstyle which was also telling of each of their personalities. Bubble's was more of a childish personality compared to her sister, she had a comfort stuffed animal as well as being an artist. She was also a crybaby, she grew out of it and she wasn't like how she was when she was young but she still had the occasional overactive cry.
Bubbles opened her eyes. Her hair was crumpled and imperfect. She was slow to pull herself up out of bed. She looked towards her sister, Blossom looked at her with a mild annoyment due to her waking up later than she had expected. Blossom pointed towards Buttercup who was on the other side of their shared bed. Bubbles rubbed her eyes and nodded to tell Blossom to wake her up.
Blossom brushed her fingers over her sister's short dark hair. Buttercup responded to her movements with aggression, letting it be known to Blossom that she was indeed awake. She tugged on Blossom's arm due to her annoyment with how early they were waking up.
"Wake me up later..." Buttercup murmured with tired eyes. Blossom sighed, she knew her younger sister would be like this. She loved her, of course, but she was aggressive and more likely to give a shit and resort to violence. Her gym membership didn't help, she was strong but she wasn't wholly full of muscles.
There was a light outline of a six pack on her naturally tanned skin as well as her arm and legs being visibly more toned with muscles. She dressed more masculinely than either of the girls, opting not to wear dresses or frills but rather tight pants and hoodies. Her pajamas were no different either. Unlike her sister Bubble's onesie of her favorite Care Bear; Buttercup's pajamas were just pants and a long sleeved shirt with green and white splotches patterned on it.
Blossom loved both of her sisters but she really wanted them to wake up. She sighed knowing the fact of that matter was that they aren't going to wake up yet, so she decided to go to the living room. She first made a detour to the kitchen to grab some cereal. She took out a box of Power-Puffs- Red, Green, and Blue corn starch filled balls of goodness. The mascot on the cover seemed to be a superhero girl with a purple dress-shirt with black stripes with light blue hair and dark skin. She was cute, apparently the mascot's name was "Bliss". She poured the cereal and filled the bowl halfway and grabbed the milk out of the fridge to pour it into.
She took her bowl of cereal and spoon over to the living room couch. She turned on the Television and switched to the news channel. It was currently on the weather segment, BORING! She switched the channel over to the cartoon block. The show was about the PowerPunk Girls, she wasn't a huge fan of them but decided to keep it on while eating her cereal.
Her phone buzzed with a notification, who was it? She tapped on her phone and put in the password. She checked her notification bar, the notification was in red font. This was intriguing!
MAYOR ANNOUNCEMENT : WARNING
There is currently an infection of Vampires taking over townsville. Whatever you do, STAY INSIDE and take shelter so as to not get bit.
Stay safe everyone. Mayor of Townsville - Barney Miyer and his assistant Mrs. Bellum.
Vampires? They weren't real. This had to be a fake announcement, her phone playing a trick on her? There was no Vampire apocalypse cause, DUH. They weren't real. She decided to go to her search engine for help. Outside her apartment window looked fine, so why would there be vampires?
She checked her local Townsville news source. Her eyes widened at the revelation. No, no, these reports must be false, she scrolled deeper and deeper. The infection spread from two teenaged boys named Brick and Butch. They currently haven't been caught due to infecting many of Townsville's residents.
She felt herself panic harder, she had to check on her sisters. She had to make sure they were safe until she heard a crash into her window, she ran outside of the living room and went to the attic. 'I must have a stake around here somewhere, surely,' she thought, running silently up the ladder to her attic.
She closed the dusty attic door; it had cobwebs all around it due to her and her sisters never being able to use the attic at all. Blood was pumping to her heart at a fast rate with her and her hands shaking due to her levels of anxiety. When she was a young girl, she always had an irrational fear of Vampires. Buttercup would always make fun of her for it; encouraging her that they weren't real, so there was no way she could be afraid of such a silly mythos.
Her fear was now being strung across her body. They were real and she needed an escape plan for her and her sisters quickly otherwise they were dead meat. She looked through the attic boxes, old memories that hadn't been toyed with in years. Things that weren't needed yet still had a sentimental value to them.
She lamented. Nostalgia had taken over her emotions– but she had one goal. Stake. Leave. Kill. She got to her box of personal belongings and found the stake she had kept in case of a vampire invasion from her intense paranoia. She gripped it tightly in her hand- the wood pricking her skin with splinters.
Whatever. That didn't matter. Blossom knew that her life was on the line, especially while she was being thrust into a situation she wasn't fully equipped to handle by herself in her pajamas.. She grabbed on tightly to her large wooden stake and opened up the attic door. She crawled quietly down the ladder.
Something about the house felt strange. It was oddly quiet for just being broken into. She glided her hand down the wall to feel safe while walking down. She turned in the hallway and her eyes widened, the window was fully broken with glass shards scattered along the carpeted flooring.
That must've hurt immensely, due to her recognizing blood stains on the carpet. It wasn't dried but it wasn't fresh like it had just been broken into which reminded Blossom of how long she took into finding the stake currently in her hands. She slowly turned the corner into their bedroom.
Neither of her sisters were there. She gulped. 'Alright, they've got to be somewhere in here… right?' she thought to herself. She exited the bedroom and walked into the bathroom. In there she saw a sight unfamiliar to her, a boy?
She looked the boy up and down, he had blonde hair and was wearing a dark navy blue and black striped sweater. His jeans were torn apart with blood dripping down his knee. He was using the first aid kit in the bathroom to bandage his leg up. "Who are you?" Blossom asked in urgency.
"Uhm. I'm Boomer?" The boy smiled, knowing she didn't know who the boy was. Blossom let her stake down while still having it gripped in her hand. "Boomer? Like the generation?" Boomer got a chuckle out of Blossom's response. At least they could both enjoy a joke in a situation as terrifying as this one.
"Yeah, my dad named me that. Not very creative is it? Heh, my brothers are probably way cooler." Boomer sighed looking at the girl. "Very sad story but… what are you doing in my house?" Blossom sat next to the boy, while still keeping her distance away from him.
"This was the first place that I saw was safe, the rest were overrun with vampires. I wish they didn't do that." Blossom tilted her head with intrigue. "Who's they?"
"My brothers. They're half vampire while I was born a full human. They kind of.. Might have.. Totally caused this." Blossom scooted farther away from him. "Wait wait wait. YOUR BROTHERS?"
"I'm not proud of it either." Blossom grabbed onto the boy and started shaking him. "No no no, your brothers are VAMPIRES?" She stopped shaking him and Boomer shook his head and started to reply to Blossom's query. "Yes. They are? Why is that so surprising." Boomer laughed.
"Because VAMPIRES aren't real. Or they are, UGH! They were just some scary mythology to me, now I have to get with the fact that they're real? That's kind of a hard thing to cope with. Something I was scared of during my childhood ends up being a real thing and are infecting everyone!" Boomer paused, considering Blossom's situation. "I-I'm sorry you feel that way. If it helps, my brothers were always kind of rude."
"It doesn't. But I think I should say thank you?" Blossom scooted closer to Boomer, Boomer in turn responding to her with a blush. Boomer looked down at his watch and his eyes widened. "Oh no. Oh no- no no no! Oh man." Blossom jumped up and looked at Boomer, who was clearly in a state of panic.
"Hey, what's wrong? You oka-" "This is REALLY bad!" He exclaimed, cutting off Blossom's words. "What's really bad? You still haven't explained it to me!" Boomer grabbed Blossom's hand and dashed out the bathroom door. "No time to explain!" He yelled, Blossom deciding to go with him and not talk. Apparently it was pretty important.
They ran fast through the building to the hallway outside of this room, apartment, house? Whichever works. They both caught their breath while holding onto each other's hands, causing them both to blush faintly until they heard a CRASH. "Fuck, fuck, fuck! Come with me, we've got to run!" Boomer told Blossom. She nodded and gulped, they opened the door and ran out into the hallway hiding behind a wall.
She heard a crude voice coming from her place of residence. She remembered something, something big. Something bad. Her sisters were still in there, she panicked with whimpers escaping her mouth. Boomer put his hand up against her mouth to keep her quiet so there was no suspicion in the air from the voices in Blossom's place.
"I heard there were some ladies here, maybe good enough material." She could hear faintly from her residence, gulping knowing her sisters were in there. "Let's go." Boomer whispered into her ear, steadily they tip-toed out to not make noise to make it so they could hear them.
They went out the door and lept in another apartment that they wouldn't go to for a while. Blossom finally sighed due to her needing to stay quiet. "My sisters are in there! They're not safe!"
"I know we will get them out. I just hope they can defend themselves for now, because my brothers are two of the most ruthless and crude people I've ever known. And I'm ME!" Boomer responded to her, putting his hand on her shoulder.
