Miyuki watched as Rin stared at her, fury almost sparking from the other's gaze. The silence started to stretch on, before Rin breathed in and opened her mouth.
"You bitch. You really are after him, aren't you? Who do you think you are, trying to stop me? I'll have you know I'm the only daughter of the head of police."
Miyuki returned the glare, impassive at the threat. "You think that's going to faze me?" She scoffed, half under her breath but loud enough to be heard. "Keep trying, Fujikawa."
The other girl's face contorted as her rage grew and she stepped forward. But then, another voice cut through the dispute. "Hey!" Miyuki looked over and saw that the manager was standing on the other side of the room, watching the whole event unfold. "Rin Fujikawa, what did I tell you last time you started an argument in my cafe? That you would be banned from being served for 6 weeks. Now get out. I don't want to see you or your followers in here again until the ban is lifted."
Rin spluttered, looking between Miyuki and the manager with narrowed eyes, before she left the building wordlessly. The twins followed, not saying a word.
The manager then glanced at Miyuki and Hikaru. "You okay, you two?"
Hikaru merely nodded, but Miyuki spoke up. "Yes, thank you for that. I've never particularly liked her, but her trying to use her father as a threat was overkill."
"Agreed." The man concurred, flicking his eyes around the cafe. "Return to your meals, everyone. The disturbance was dealt with." He'd noticed people were staring at Miyuki and Hikaru and he didn't appreciate it.
People turned back to their own meals and Miyuki looked at Hikaru, after finishing her own food. "Did you want to go somewhere else? The atmosphere here was ruined by those three."
Hikaru nodded, swallowing the last bite of his sandwich. "Where were you thinking of?" He got up out of his seat at the same time as Miyuki and went over to pay for the meal, getting a look from the girl. "What?" He stifled a chuckle, before explaining his intentions. "I invited you to come with me to the cafe, remember?"
"Yeah, but I wanted to pay half." Miyuki responded as the pair walked out of the building to head to their next location. "I think we can just wander around. The sun's starting to go down."
"Sounds good. I want to relax as well, before I head home." I wonder how Ayana's going. His mind wandered briefly to his nineteen-year-old sister who was going to be taking care of dinner back at the house.
Say… "I wonder if we will be chosen. It seems cool." Miyuki pondered as she walked beside Hikaru. "Saving the worlds and whatnot…" Which Digimon would be our partners?
Hikaru made a contemplative noise. "I don't know. It seems a bit dangerous. What if the Chosen fail to stop this threat? What then?"
Meanwhile, back in the dungeon of the castle he inhabited, Vamdemon stood over the secured form of Wizarmon. He was annoyed that the Adult Digimon was staring back at him with signs of confident defiance in his emerald eyes. The Perfect level wanted to beat the defiance out of his subordinate.
"Time and time again, Wizarmon, you continue to defy me. I let you off the first few times with a warning, but I will not be so generous again." The vampire raised a gloved hand and a red energy whip burst forth. "Bloody Stream!"
He struck Wizarmon multiple times, each strike forcing the mage Digimon's eyes to water as he refused to cry out in pain. He'd done what he had for Tailmon and the Eighth Chosen Child. Vamdemon was not going to take his success from him completely. Soon enough, Wizarmon passed out from the pain.
Vamdemon made a disgruntled noise and unchained the Adult, before looking at a Devidramon. "Throw him in one of the cells. I won't be taking him with me when I invade Odaiba."
The devilish dragon made no sound, but picked up Wizarmon by the head and unlocked the cell that was closest to him. The Virus-attribute threw his supposed colleague into the holding cell, not caring when the body hit the floor roughly. Devidramon then locked the door and put the key back on the belt he had around his waist.
"It is done, m'lord." First time he'd spoken for quite a while and his voice was raspy, as expected.
"Good." Vamdemon started walking away, before pausing briefly. "Tailmon, come!" He waited for the white feline Digimon to fall in line with him and he strode off again. As he exited the dungeon, he could be heard discussing his plan with her.
A golden lion cub prowled the streets of Odaiba. He was a Leormon and he sought his destined partner. The Vaccine Digimon didn't know what his partner looked like, but knew his name at least. So it wouldn't be too hard to make the connection between name and appearance. He inhaled and his bright blue eyes perused the district carefully.
Leormon had no idea where his Chosen lived, but he would find it soon enough. Nothing would stop him from finding his human. Part of him was glad Wizarmon had made that digital gate, as it had allowed him to crossover between worlds a lot sooner than he had expected.
The lion cub had also seen other Child levels cross through after him. He didn't know where they were now, though. He assumed they were here to find their own partners. Silently, he wished them luck.
Leormon continued his search, realizing he would have to expand his radius. He eyed where the two kids had gone who he deemed allies and decided to try the apartment blocks down that way. The Vaccine Digimon hoped it wouldn't take him too long to find his partner. Wizarmon's warning was still very fresh.
The next day, Miyuki and Hikaru decided to walk down to the shopfront and window shop for anything of interest. Miyuki noted Hikaru offered this to her to help get her out of the apartment complex, away from her mischief-making older brothers and violent uncle.
I'm grateful he's a friend.
The girl, originally from Glasgow, had had to move to Odaiba when she was young. It was after she already had the Scottish accent, but before her younger sisters could pick it up. Her mother hadn't been sick at that point, only falling ill when they settled into the apartment complex in Odaiba with a sickness the doctors weren't sure how to treat.
As they were walking past one of the shops, Miyuki saw something that caught her eye. Oh? She looked in the direction of the display. It was a red dress with floral imprints and purple bands around the sleeves.
"Hikaru, can I buy that dress please?" The young girl asked her friend, glancing at the slightly older boy. Hikaru had been given control of Miyuki's spending money by her father before the pair had left the apartment building.
Hikaru looked at the dress that Miyuki was pointing at and turned back to her with a smile. "Sure thing. Let's go in and get it."
The two young children entered the clothing store and Miyuki instantly made a beeline for the dress. She took it up to the counter and Hikaru grabbed the money out of his pocket.
Hikaru gave the money to Miyuki and she placed it on the counter, pushing it towards the sales assistant. When the woman put the dress through as a sale and the money was put into the till, Miyuki accepted the bag that was offered to her with her dress.
"Thanks."
The pair then exited the shop and paused just outside the entrance to look where they wanted to go next. It was at that moment that Miyuki and Hikaru heard an excited squeal. The friends turned their heads in that direction and saw a child racing towards them.
"Ryan, wait!" The young boy's mother tried to stop her son, as what seemed to be the father watched on passively.
Not doing anything? Why would he not do anything? Miyuki was confused by the father's lack of movement. Then she realized he was not human. A Digimon sired a child? What?!
When the kid crashed into her, with everything that had happened so far, her temper just snapped. "Hey!" Miyuki bit out, glaring down at the kid who looked to be seven. "Watch what you're doing. You don't even look human-"
"Miyuki, what the hell?!" Hikaru hissed in her ear since he was standing right beside her.
"Go back to your parents, kid. And you! Don't tell me what to do! I can't…" She shook her head, overcome with emotion. "I can't do this shit."
Hikaru frowned slightly, but mouthed an apology to the parents, before ushering his friend away from judging eyes. "Let's talk about this, okay?" He murmured, soft, so only she could hear. The boy suspected her outburst was from the sudden responsibility that was being thrust upon them.
The pair ended up sitting on a park bench, away from the majority of people. Hikaru placed an arm around his friend's shoulder to comfort her.
"I'm sorry you got overwhelmed so quickly." The boy spoke quietly, beating himself up mentally. He should have realized.
"It's fine." Miyuki replied after a stretch of silence. She sighed. "I didn't ask for this. You didn't either."
I know. I'm sorry, Miyuki.
Miyuki didn't know exactly why Wizarmon had chosen to warn them, but she figured the Chosen must be in some kind of dire trouble if a spare team was needed. She didn't know how dangerous the threat was, didn't really know anything about the enemy. But she would learn.
They would all have to learn and adapt to something they knew nothing about.
Still lost in her thoughts, Miyuki gave a sudden gasp and her eyes widened as she looked up at Hikaru. "I just realized something."
"What's that?" Hikaru tilted his head in confusion.
"If the Chosen are superheroes, we must be like the backup squad. I wonder how that will go..." That would make her grow bitter towards Digimon, especially after a certain event that was due to happen later. But, for now, she was kind of excited about meeting her own Digimon partner. "I wonder which Digimon will be my partner."
Miyuki watched Hikaru as he sat in silence and she wondered what he was thinking. She didn't have to wait too long for an answer.
"I… don't know how I feel about that." He admitted, looking away from her and scratching his neck. "It makes me uncomfortable, knowing we were second rate. Why us?"
Miyuki didn't know why they had been chosen as a spare team, hadn't thought much about it at first. But now that Hikaru was doing the analytics, it was starting to make sense to her. It made her a little uneasy but, right now, her excitement was higher. She was excited to see which Digimon would be her partner.
"Excuse me?" A voice cut into her thoughts, which caused Miyuki to glance at who was addressing her. It was an African girl with blue hair, that looked dyed.
"Hello?" Miyuki answered a little warily, just now noticing that the girl had a dog on a leash. "Oh, nice dog by the way."
"Thank you." The other girl smiled, the gesture reaching her eyes. "My name's Kiyoko Matsutane."
Miyuki paused, hesitating as she looked at Hikaru. After a moment, she turned back to Kiyoko when Hikaru gave her a small nod. "Miyuki Hayashi. This is my friend, Hikaru Kaneko. Did you need something?"
Kiyoko shook her head. "I was just passing by and you both looked down, so I wanted to help in some way."
Unsure of if she would be part of the team, Miyuki nodded. "It's complicated, but I'll explain."
