Duo looked to the night sky. The stars twinkled brightly from Earth. A full moon was starting to rise on the dark horizon. He thought, "How long has it been since I looked at the stars? A week, a month, has it been even longer since I have taken the time to gaze at them?"
Times of peace seemed to pass by so much faster than times of war. Maybe he was just stuck in the loop of days. A day of work and sleep repeated over and over seemingly without end. Habits develop with days like this. His times of thought were cut out to make way for this cycle. This rare time of a quiet sleepless night his thoughts continued to drift in the dark sky. "I wonder what the others are doing? Quatre is probably doing something important for both Earth and the colonies. Trowa seemed to be happy with Catherine in circus life, wherever that is he probably would be. Heero and Wufei now there was a question. Could either of them find a life in peace?"
"Duo! Hey Duo where did you go? Dinner's ready," Hirde yelled from the small house on the other side of the yard.
His eyes lit up at the return to reality and the thought of food. He bounded down the junk pile, his feet barely hitting the ground. He kept the scrap around because you never know when you might need something. "Coming!"
He charged through the doorway pulling the door closed behind him. A skill he learned from Hirde repeatedly having to yell at him about leaving it open. In one motion that was still far from graceful he slid sideways into his seat at the table. Hirde tried to start a civil conversation tonight but again gave up after his steak was finished and he had yet to say a word without rolling the steak just out of the way enough to be understood. "Duo, come on. At least try to chew with your mouth closed."
Still chewing, "Alright Hirde, I'll try."
She rested her head in her hands. Duo was Duo there was no changing that. They continued to eat. She thought to herself, "The way he eats you'd think he hasn't eaten in days."
Still chewing, now moved on to the veggies and garlic bread, "You know, this is really good tonight," pointing at his almost empty plate with his fork.
"You can taste it?"
"Yeah, and it is really good tonight."
"I figured you were eating too fast to."
He swallowed his last bite before he spoke this time. "What would you think about me going to see the guys again?"
She looked up; the question seems so foreign now. How long had it been since he had last seen them? "Sure, have fun of it. Would be great for you to change the pace."
His eyes widened at her approval. He got up from the table took his plate which could easily be mistaken as clean now and place it in the sink. He smiled at Hirde once again and was walking towards the door. "Duo, where are you going?"
"To start looking of course."
"Now?"
"No time like the present, right?"
She sighed; there was no changing his mind. "So you were going to leave without saying good bye?"
His faced so animated was now one of apology. "Bye," he said as he smiled and shut the door behind him.
"So, what am I going to do with all this food?" The table was clear but she had just gone shopping for the week.
End Chapter 1
Ok I'll be the first to admit it... I need help. I don't know where this story should go. I'm lost to a true plot. Tell me what you think of this chapter tell me where you want this to go. Don't wait too long because I might get my own ideas. To sum myself up I guess it could best be said as:
