Karen opened the door to her apartment to greet her son, Andy.

Andy was in the living room sitting on the couch playing on his phone when he saw his mom come in. He looked up from his phone and greeted her. "Hi mom!" He hopped off the couch with the phone still in his hand and walked to meet her halfway. But when Andy got close to his mom, he noticed something. "Whoa mom! You look like crap! What happened to you?"

That ticked Karen off! She just had a long day at work and her son just had the nerve to say such a thing! Didn't he appreciate how hard she worked? Just for that, Karen wanted to slap the boy silly but instead she shot him a stern look and said, "Wow son, thanks! And watch your mouth next time I just had a long day at work!" She took off her jacket.

That seemed to put Andy back in his place without getting slapped. His face blushed with embarrassment. "Uhh, sorry mom."

Karen happened to see some unpacked boxes and that ticked her off even more. "Andy I told you to unpack those boxes!"

"I know! I was but..." Andy said blankly.

"But what?" Karen looked him in the eye.

"I...I wanted to make a mental map of where I should put everything first." Andy gave his lame excuse.

"Oh please!" Karen turned around.

"Mom it's true!" said Andy from behind.

Karen turned back around and said, "You know, I think you were spending so much time 'mental mapping' that you can't even put your phone down for 5 seconds to feed Rooney." She turned back around to wash her hands in the kitchen sink.

"You mean this busted-up, bootleg phone that we're replacing on my birthday?" Andy held up his phone.

Karen picked up a towel to dry her hands. "Noodle, I've been working doubles to get you a new hearing aid. But I don't think you appreciate that." She placed it back where she got it from and walked to go sit on the couch.

Andy followed her. "Mom, I'm fine with this one." He sat on the couch with her. "This is my primary source of free education."

Karen turned her head to Andy. "Free education? Let me see what kind of free education." She grabbed his phone.

But Andy wasn't giving it up that easily. So he jumped onto his mom's lap. "No!"

And Karen wasn't giving it up that easily either. So she grabbed him and wrapped her arm around his neck. "Let me see what kind of 'free education' you're getting."

After a little bit of "wrestling", Andy pulled away from her grip.

Karen looked at Andy's phone and saw an image of the Buddi doll with a play button in front of it. She hit the play button and saw the Buddi doll doing something naughty. "Oh my goodness I can't get away from this doll!"

Feeling embarrassed, Andy tried to snatch his phone back but his mom wouldn't let him have it.

"No! Your phone is staying with me for the rest of the night! You've had enough 'free education' young man." said Karen.

"What? You can't do that! That's the only thing to do around here!" said Andy looking sad.

"Are you kidding me?" Karen got off the couch and walked to the window. "There's plenty of things you can do! Look there's 2 kids down there standing in the rain. That looks like fun!"

"No mom! I don't know them! They could be anybody! They could be serial killers!" debated Andy.

Karen walked and sat back down on the couch with her son. She stared him in the eye. "Noodle...we talked about this...you said you were gonna try and make new friends, remember?" She ruffled up his hair.

Andy didn't say anything but gave her a sad look.

Karen continued. "This move is supposed to be a fresh start for us.

Andy sighed and slumped into the couch.

"I'll tell you what. You don't have to unpack or do anything tonight as long as you go out there and try." Karen turned her head to her son.

Andy turned his head to his mom.

"Ok Noodle?" She ruffled his hair again. "Can you do that for me?" She smiled at him. "I'll give you your phone back." Karen held up his phone.

Without saying anything or risking his mom changing her mind, Andy grabbed the phone and got off the couch to go outside.

"Oh really Andy? You're not even going to say 'thank you'?" said Karen feeling annoyed.

"Thanks mom." Andy replied without turning around.
