Andy connected his phone to the Buddi doll via a USB cable.
Karen precautioned him on one thing. "This Buddi doll I got is refurbished so it might not work perfectly, ok?"
Once connected, the Buddi app appeared on Andy's phone but the screen flickered which caused him to press on the screen a couple of times. After a few presses, the Buddi doll finally moved its head. It was quite a sight to see the doll move. Andy saw the Buddi doll on TV and he has friends that have the doll but he's never had his own before. Something about the way the Buddi doll moved fascinated him. Maybe Andy's early birthday present wasn't so bittersweet after all. This was going to be his new pride and joy.
An automated voice spoke. "Your Buddi is now connected."
"Wow!" said Andy fascinated. It was something truly amazing about having your own of anything. He watched the Buddi doll as it came to life.
The doll looked around at its surroundings like it was a new human being that was new to the world. The doll's blue eyes flickered and he happened lay eyes on Andy first making his imprint on him. The Buddi doll smiled.
Something about the doll's smile warmed Andy's heart.
The Buddi doll spoke for the very, first time. "Hi! Are you my b-b-b-b-best buddy?"
"Uhh, I guess...if you want me to." replied Andy.
Since the Buddi doll first laid eyes on Andy, he imprinted on him by scanning him with a laser.
When the laser passed over Andy's face, he covered his eyes and said, "Oww! That was bright!" He reopened his eyes to see what the doll would do next.
"What's your name?" the doll asked.
"Andy. What up!" Andy smiled back at the doll.
"Hi Andy What up!" the Buddi doll greeted him.
Andy chuckled and looked at his mom. It was a little funny seeing that the doll didn't know what "what up" meant.
Karen chuckled with him.
He turned back to Buddi.
Buddi then asked, "What's my name?"
Andy didn't expect the doll to ask him that. But he played along and thought about it for a moment.
Buddi watched him to see if he would get it right.
Andy finally responded with, "I don't know...Han Solo?"
"Did you say Ch-ch-ch-chucky?" Buddi glitched.
Andy was surprised.
How did Buddi not understand what Andy just said? He heard Andy say his own name. How come Buddi didn't understand Andy say his name? Buddi must truly be a malfunctioning doll which would be truly sad. If Buddi couldn't get the names right, imagine what kind of malfunctioning was in store for them.
"What? No! I said Han Solo...you know, from Star Wars?" Andy tried to explain.
"Chucky! I like that name." said Buddi. He must have been pre-programmed with that name. "I'm Ch-ch-ch-ch-Chucky! What do you wanna do Andy What up?"
"Andy. It's just Andy, ok? Umm, I don't know. Do something cool! Turn on the TV." He moved out of the way.
"I will do that. What's a TV?" asked Chucky.
"Are you kidding me? Who doesn't know what a TV is? That thing in front of me!" Andy pointed it out.
"I'm sorry. I cannot process that command." said Chucky.
Andy sighed and turned to his mom. "Mom?"
"Hey look, it says you have to sync his knowledge base to the cloud before he can connect to any other Kaslan products." informed Karen.
Andy decided to try again. "Ok Chucky. Let's try this. Connect to the cloud." He pressed something on his phone. "Download." He looked up at Chucky. "Learn stuff."
Chucky seemed to be having a hard time functioning properly. When he spoke, the words were jumbled and glitched up. His eyes flickered as he moved his arms. "I'm sorry. I cannot process that command."
"Hmm." Andy looked into Chucky's eyes and studied him. Something wasn't right. "He looks kind of creepy."
Chucky smiled at Andy once again with flickering eyes.
Andy sighed and turned to his mom and made his conclusion. "It doesn't work."
Karen sighed as well. "Oh my goodness. Ok, this thing is stupid. I didn't know it was that messed up. I'll take it back tomorrow."
"No! No! Mom, it's fine! I like it!" Andy pleaded.
"No you don't." said Karen.
"No seriously!" Andy walked over and hugged his mom. "I think it's great! He's hilarious!"
By him hugging her despite everything made Karen feel happy. After everything she went through for him, how he first didn't want it, Karen convinced him to try it, the glitches Chucky has, Karen figured the least she could do was return the favor. Karen grabbed Andy by the cheek and kissed him on the other.
"I love you mom." he confessed to her.
"I love you too son." she confessed to him.
"It's actually pretty cool now that I think about it." said Andy having second thoughts about it.
"Yeah? It's time for bed Andy What up!" Karen joked.
They both shared a laugh.
Andy got up and made his way to his room. "Come on Chucky!"
Chucky turned his head to Andy and followed him.
