For this one-shot to work, imagine nothing post-Season 5 of SPN is canon, plus any LOTR references in SPN are ignored.

Thank you to Sayman for his suggestions on this one-shot.

The spirit of the one known as Gandalf had strayed out of thought and time, for his body had been taken by the darkness itself.

Stars wheeled overhead, the days seemed too long, as long as a life age on the Earth. Yet, it was not the end.

For he found himself in front of a bright, all-encompassing light, inside which he saw everything, including himself. The sight seemed to inspire hope within him. It told him his task is not yet over, so he must go back and finish it first. Now, he was the sole emissary of the Valar, so he need not hide his power as much as he did before.

And then, he felt something grasp him by the shoulder, before he was sped away.

Gandalf gasped, his eyes opening as he realized he was in his physical body once more, on the snow, at peak of Zirakzigil.

His mind was still processing everything now, slowly remembering what he was before, and what he truly was.

Then he saw a hand reaching out towards him, and took it, being helped up. As he straightened himself, he saw in front of him was a man who was just as tall as he was, and he wore a trench coat, looking at him with an almost piercing gaze.

Yet, Gandalf realized who he was, sensing the power within him.

"My name is Castiel", the being introduced himself. "I am an Angel of the Lord."

"I remember you", Gandalf said to Castiel. "You did not look like this though."

"And neither did you look like this, Olórin", Castiel pointed out to him. "I have taken a human vessel with his consent, for my true form would blind anyone who sees me."

"We had to take this form so that we could guide the people of Middle-earth, rather than dominate them", Gandalf told Castiel. "It is good to see you again, old friend."

"Yeah, it is indeed", Castiel tapped Gandalf's shoulder. "How does it feel to come back to life now?"

"I truly thought it was over, and I was almost despairing. I am glad that I have been sent back now, I must help them now", Gandalf looked ahead, knowing what task he had now.

"You're not the only one, the Lord has brought me back too when I was gone", Castiel revealed, to Gandalf's surprise, as Castiel grasped Gandalf's shoulder. "So I know how you feel. The task just never seems to be done, does it?"

"I believe not, but I will complete mine", Gandalf said firmly.

"If only things were that simple on Earth too", Castiel sighed, before sharing a nod with Gandalf. "I hope we meet again one day."

"I hope the same old friend", Gandalf said. "Though, how shall I leave this place?"

"There is a plan for that, friend, you shall know it soon", Castiel told Gandalf, before finally disappearing in a flash of light, as Gandalf waited on the peak for 3 days before Gwaihir, sent by Lady Galadriel, came to him.

Like Castiel, Gandalf was brought back to finish his task, and he did.

Figured Gandalf and Castiel could have a chat over being brought back to life by the Lord. Since nothing after SPN Season 5 is considered canon for this one-shot, this works well. The Angels of Christianity are basically the Ainur who did not go to Arda to become the Valar and Maiar. This is why Gandalf and Castiel know who the other is.

Anyways, hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with some other update.
