Idk if I'll write a second part to this or not, but I rewatched Camp Lakebottom since I liked the show when I was younger. Being McGee is one of my favorite episodes, maybe because it's one that portrays Jordan in a less "Haha rich kid bully" way and more in a "Jerky kid who treats people badly and causes them to dislike him so he is desperately lonely" way. I mean, he's been attached to a garden gnome before. I don't think he deserves a redemption arc, but a relationship where he doesn't play dirty with Camp Lakebottom and has a normal rivalry would be a good start
McGee was exhausted.
Well, not exactly exhausted, but a sudden bout of tiredness seemed to hit him as he stood in front of the ruins. He wasn't the only one, noticing Buttsquat of all people's eyelids drooping even as the necklace was right in front of him. The ginger's head snapped up as he glanced from McGee to the necklace.
"Waaiiit, suddenly I don't want it anymore..."
"Eh, me neither." McGee shrugged and then smiled, "Wanna call it a night?"
Buttsquat somehow found the politeness to smile back before turning around towards the ruin's exit. McGee followed suit, the both of them seemingly acting nice towards one another. McGee couldn't recall Buttsquat showing him a bit of kindness outside of the time they got lost in Spit Creek, and even then it was when they thought they were on the verge of death.
"Night, Mcgoober." Buttsquat sluggishly waved as the two arrived from where the path split towards Lakebottom and Sunnysmiles. McGee gave a tired grin back before heading on the path towards Lakebottom.
"See you tomorrow, Buttdork."
Whatever bout of tiredness McGee had wasn't made better by the dream he had in the slightest.
First of all, it started out as him waking up (or at least thinking he had woken up in his dream) as Buttsquat. Then McGee was thrown out of Camp Lakebottom where he ran into himself, or rather Buttsquat as himself, and the two fought over being stuck in the current situation before the bottom dwellers and Suzi arrived to bring the two of them to the opposite camps.
That was when things got less vivid, McGee thought Sunnysmiles had potential, but all the campers were super boring and he decided to head back to Lakebottom after taking a look at the amulet from the ruins. There was something about body swapping? If Buttsquat had the other half, he'd just head back to his own camp to find him.
If there was one thing McGee wasn't expecting to find, it would be Buttsquat calling Lakebottom "kinda fun" and acting like he was best pals with Squirt and Gretchen. There was a fight about something regarding friendship and not wanting to switch back, and the conversation ended when Buttsquat decided to embrace the McGee role long enough to send the real deal back to Sunnysmiles.
Once McGee was shooed away, he pouted, got mad, saw Squirt and Gretchen, got happy, and then got accused of being Buttsquat until he messed around. The three went back to Lakebottom where Buttsquat had managed to convince the consolers to build a rocket he was planning to launch at the camp. He then decided to take things up a notch and turn the situation into an awkward conversation that consisted of complaining about a (reasonable) lack of friends so McGee called the Sunnysmiles campers boring in an attempt to make things chill? Whatever awkward conversation was about to happen when Suzi showed up to fetch McGee-as-Buttsquat, causing the real Buttsquat to immediately act like he wasn't complaining two seconds ago before he dropped the rocket's remote...
McGee managed to grab on in the nick of time and offered to self-destruct the rocket, to which Buttsquat agreed and the two pressed the button. Then the necklace started glowing and-
Wait a minute- why was the necklace in his dream when he didn't even want it? Unless... no, that was a dream, nothing more, right?
"But then how would that explain me remembering every conversation, every event..." McGee murmured as he set up in bed. It was still dark aside, and Gretchen and Squirt were fast asleep. McGee felt like he couldn't go back to sleep if he tried, the whole dream managing to seem more real than he liked.
