When he got to her room he saw Mika looking angry but even more depressed. She chewed at her nails and paced a small distance. "What happened?" Bose asked going straight for her. "She knew. I told her i didn't want him here and she invited him anyways. She hates me, that's the only answer?" Mika's voice quivered. Bose placed both his hands on her arms, rubbed them to relived her, and get her to talk to him rationally. Bose still didn't understand what was so bad about the guest that showed up but if Mika didn't want them here, then it was for a damn good reason.
"I just don't even want to be here with these stupid people, how could she ruin this for me, for us," She crossed her arms in clear distress.
Mika was emotional and was about to break. "I'll go talk to her and see if we can work something out alright," Bose offered. Mika shook her head and said that it would be no use, "Let me just give it a try," he insisted. Bose ventured out the door quickly practicing what he wanted to say to fix everything.
As he was arriving downstairs, he past Chapa and Miles on their way to Mika's room.
The music was still playing but everyone was whispering amongst each other. Bose walked into the kitchen as people stared at him. Celia walked up to him concerned, "Bose what's going on? Is Mika okay?". "Yeah, she just needs a moment," Bose lied and walked past her.
Angela was sitting on a stool in the kitchen surrounded by Didi, another woman who he recognized as one of the guests who caused Mika's outburst, and Herman.
"Um, excuse me," Bose cleared his throat to get their attention. Angela rolled her eyes and Herm placed a hand on Angela's shoulder to relax her. "What do you want?" Herm spits out. Bose maintain his posture and chose his words carefully," Mika is very upset about who you invited without her consent, and she wants them to leave," Bose glanced at Amila and she held her glass tighter. "Oh is she? We didn't notice," Herm scoffed. Angela brushed Herms's hand off her shoulder, "He's just the messenger don't shoot him,".
"While you're here Bose, maybe you can go back upstairs and tell your little girlfriend that she's being a drama queen and ruining everyone's good time," Angela stated.
"What about her good time? This get-together is about Mika after all, shouldn't she have a say on how it goes?" Bose questioned.
"Well from what I've heard she's been acting like a brat ever since the news of her pregnancy came out," Amila added and Bose snapped his head to her. She and her husband was the cause of this. Bose ignored her.
"Mika's being selfish," Angela sneered. Bose balled up his fist at her comment.
Mika Macklin was the farthest thing from selfish.
Bose's mind raced with so many hurtful, but true, things he could say to her. Nevertheless, he needed to stay deferential, Angela was still Mika's mother. However, that didn't mean she could talk down on Mika and treat her like garbage.
"With all due respect Mrs. Macklin, "Bose tensed his shoulder, "You're wrong, Mika has every right to be upset with you. She isn't selfish or entitled for setting boundaries, but you are for crossing them," Bose affirmed.
Angela gripped the corner of the counter and stood up from her stool. Who is Bose to tell her she was selfish and entitled when if it wasn't for their reckless behavior none of them would be in this mess. Everything about Bose had become displeasing to her.
"You don't tell me what i am, if I'm wrong or not that is none of your concern. You ruined my relationship with my daughter, you destroyed my daughter's life and you dare not to even be sorry. She deserves better than you, she deserves a better father to her child than you and i hope one day she'll come to realize that you are no good for her. Bose, you have got to be the worst thing that has ever happened to Mika-" Angela let her anger get the best of her.
"That's enough baby sister," Didi disclosed.
Bose's mouth went dry, she deserves a better father to her child than you.
Her harsh words rang in his ears and it knocked the air out of his lungs. Bose walked to the counter and took the envelope that was sitting there. He blinked a few times to stop water from consuming his eyes, he turned around and went back to Mika. This was no use.
Celia and Willard watched from the living room couch as Bose went back up the stairs fidgeting with the sleeve of his jean jacket. They shared a disquiet look.

When Bose made his way back to Mika's room, Chapa and Miles were asking her all sorts of questions and she answered them with either a word or two. She was too busy shoving clothes into a purple backpack. Mika stopped when she looked at the door and saw Bose standing there looking dejected. "So how did it go?" Miles asked. Bose didn't hear him at first because he was still reliving the conversation.
Mika didn't have to ask. By his face, she knew it didn't go well, just like she expected. But there was more to it when she looked into Bose's eyes. Mika crossed her arms, "What did they say to you?" She demanded. Bose didn't want to tell her because Mika would go off the rails, "It was,it was really nothing bad,i tried to be polite about it".
Mika laughed but it was dark, she nodded her head swaying back and forth. The trio watched her, no one knew what to do or what would come next. If Bose wasn't telling her what those assholes said to him, then it was everything bad. Mika raved out of the room before any of them could react. Miles blinked and Mika was gone, he bolted up to run after, "Shits about to go down,".
Bose pulled at his hair and was about out run out the door but Chapa took his arm, "You might wanna take this," she gave him the purple backpack. Bose threw it on his shoulder, then he and Chapa went down to witness the shit show.
"Mika, Mika stop, come with me okay," Miles tried to block Mika's final step. Mika shoved him aside and Miles nearly fell over, she was strong for pregnant women. Then when he caught himself, Bose shoved him aside with the backpack rushing to Mika.
Angela and Herman collided with Mika and she pointed her finger in their faces, "What the hell is wrong with you two?!" she put all her might into her shout. The music stopped playing and all eyes were on them. "You need to watch your tone?" Angela grumbled a warning. Mika began to cry in a frenzy.
Mika sharply turned to Randell, "You get the fuck out,". Everyone gasped. "Mika Macklin!" Herm called but Mika didn't care. That's when Herm gripped Mika's arms tightly. "Dad!" Miles stepped down. Bose held Herman's wrist firmly, "Let her go," he gritted his teeth. They glared each other down and Mika took the opportunity to shake his grip off.
"Bose O'Brien!" Celia spoke up, "This seems like a family issue, please act accordingly," Ceila demanded of him. "This has nothing to do with you son," Willard added. Bose wished the adults in their lives would stop saying that. He and Mika came as a package deal, what happens to her, happens to him, what she felt, he felt.
"She is my family," Bose spat at them, he looked around at the crowd they attracted," Whether you all like it or not,".
Her father didn't need to put his hands on her and he was only defending Mika.
"I am sick of you treating me like crap. I get it, you're disappointed in me but i am trying my hardest, that all I've been doing, and you-" Mika couldn't get the next words out. Bose held her back, "Mika, it's not worth it," he stood in front of her but she looked past him gazing at her parents. "You hate me, i hate that you hate me," Mika's voice cracked. Her parents stayed quiet. They didn't hate her, but with the way they've been acting, they might as well.
Seeing Mika like this was disheartening, she was already going through so much, she didn't need this. None of this was good for her, and none of this was good for the baby.
Bose leaned down to whisper in her ear as he wiped her tears, "Forget them, let's just go, okay,". Mika whimpered closer to him and he felt her nod against him.
Bose took Mika's hand, touched the small of her back, and she cried against his shoulder. He lead her out the door and closed it on his way out.
Bose opened the car door for her and helped her inside. He got into the driver's seat and then immediately pulled out of the driveway, eager to be away from the wretched party.
))))))
Mika and Bose drove around in silence for a bit before stopping in front of a hotel. They couldn't stay at Mika's house for obvious reasons, and Bose didn't want to deal with what his parents would have to say at his house.
Mika sat crisscrossed in the middle of the large mattress in deep thought playing with her fingers. The hotel room was nice, the nicest she's ever been in. But she was too upset to admire it.
They've had a long day. Bose asked her if she wanted to get into the shower before him and Mika said no in a small voice. It would be best for him to go first, he would be waiting a long time if she did. She would never come out, too caught up in drowning her sorrow in scented soap.
Bose didn't take long, he walked out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist and another one to dry his hair. He peeked at Mika and saw she was still in the same position he left her. Bose took a hold of a towel on the nightstand and held it out for her.
Mika looked up at him and it broke his heart to gaze into her sad puppy dog eyes, Mika didn't even notice he came out. She gave him a small smile, took the towel from him, and stepped out of the bed. Mika shyly walked into the bathroom and closed the door.
Bose is a naturally empathic person, so it didn't take much for him to feel for people. When it came to Mika, even seeing a slight frown on her face over something as small as hating the color of her nails made Bose want to do anything possible to make her feel better. This was the most dishearted he'd ever seen her and he was sure it was the most she's been at all.
Bose was thinking about what happened as he looked through the backpack. He didn't know how Mika knew to pack him some clothes too, he wasn't sure where she got them but then he remembered that on the days he slept over at their house, Miles had a drawer in his room for his clothes.
What could he do to turn today around? What could he do to make her smile tonight even for a few seconds?
)))))
Mika sat crisscrossed in the middle of the mattress again, resting her hand on her baby bump. She was fresh out of the shower and in her cozy PJs. She just wanted her parents to give her and Bose this one thing. A drama-free gender reveal.
When she came out of the shower she didn't see Bose and was instantly worried but then she saw a note he left stating he just went to the front desk to check their room status.
Mika was channel surfing when Bose came back. "Hey," Bose greeted her, and she put the remote down, "Hi, you're back".
"Yeah, sorry i just needed to step out," Bose was saying when a knock was heard on the door, "Room Service".
Bose opened the door and the server came rolling in plates of food. Mika's eyes sparkled, it wasn't until she saw the food that she realized she was famished. "Thank you," Bose reached for his wallet to tip the server.
When he left, Bose rolled the table to the bed and handed Mika a plate of food. Her mouth watered when she saw it was one of her favorite dishes, jollof rice. It was Bose's favorite too thanks to Mika. Bose also ordered some cupcakes and put the case on the bed with them.
"You know, this almost makes up for our fucked up day," Mika chuckled but there was a hint of bitterness. Bose laid down beside her, holding himself up with his elbow on his side, and rested his hand on her thigh, "I have a surprise for you," Bose grinned. Mika put the plate down and turned her attention to him. Bose pulled out an envelope from behind him and opened up the cupcake case. "What's that?" Mika asked before quickly turning to back to the rice and shoving a spoonful into her mouth. Bose chuckled and she turned back around munching.
"This," Bose waved the envelope, "holds our future," he claimed. Mika understood what he meant, "You got the paper that tells us what the baby is," Mika said softly. Mika had been overthinking ever since they left that party that her mom decided to be petty and tell everyone what the baby was and all those people that she wanted nothing to do with had found out the sex of her baby before she and Bose did. Bose didn't really go to the front desk. He went to see someone on the cuisine team and asked if they could make him cupcakes but make the inside blue or pink based on what the documentation in the envelope said the baby is.
"I figured if we couldn't do this with a spontaneous cake in front of people who couldn't care less about our well-being," Bose chided, "We could have our own little celebration,".
Mika reached down to hold Bose's hand, the one on her thigh. That would be sweet and would fully make up for today. She wished Chapa and Miles could share this moment with them, but this would have to do. "That sounds lovely, baby,".
Bose smiled and they both leaned over for a quick peck on the lips. Bose picked up a delicious-looking cupcake and Mika shifted in her seat excited. Bose sat up, "You still think it's a boy?" he teased. "You still think it's a girl?" She teased back. Bose moved closer to her and they intertwined their finger. "Here we go," Bose brought the mini cake to her mouth and fed it to her. Mika took a bit and Bose pulled the cake away so they could see the inside.
The color was delicate, sweet, and innocent. The color was pink.
They stared at the light red hue in amazement. It was a girl! Mika started thinking about all the matching clothes they would wear, doing her hair, painting her nails, pretty names and etc!
"It's going to be a boy anyways, i can feel it," Bose quoted Mika the day before the ultrasound.
Mika punched his arm playfully, "Ugh shut up and kiss me!" Mika sang. She grabbed Bose's face and frantically kissed him. "I was right," Bose pulled away to talk but Mika smashed her lips against his again, then he stopped kissing her again. "Bose one, Mika a thousand," He excitedly made the count. "Congratulation," she ran her fingers through his hair and embraced him again.
As they were making out Bose bit Mika's lower lip and she pressed her tongue against his to deepen the kiss. Every time Bose kissed Mika, he felt like she was truly a part of him and vis versa. It was never dull, it always surfed new doting emotions in him. He wondered if other couples felt this way or if he and Mika bonded differently. It was insane how obsessed they were with each other.
Bose's hands wandered as usual and found the waistband of her pajama bottoms. Mika caught his hands and moved to brush her lips against his, "Not gonna happen," Mika smirked. Bose caressed the side of her neck with his thumb bringing their lips closer, but far enough to not be kissing, "But we're alone, with no one to disturb us,". Mika took his hand and thrust it a little past her waistband, she felt his lips curl. But then Mika took his hand out in a swift motion and brought it to her belly, "Guess again?". Bose sighed, the brick wall they build between them. She didn't have a problem with it three months ago, but then again she wasn't showing nearly as much as now and she didn't know she was pregnant.
Mika pushed him away from her slowly and cheerfully turned back to her Jollof rice. "Fine, but when that baby is out and about," he whispered in her ear and Mika felt a delightful shiver run down her spine, "I'm gonna have my way with you,". Mika eyed him seductively as she kept eating her rice and Bose kissed her forehead.
They would have to go home eventually, but they forgot the disaster that was today. Their minds overflowing with what it's going be like when they'll finally be able to hold their baby girl in their awaiting arms.
