I do not own the Inuyasha characters
Screams. Blurs of oranges and red raged behind a pair of closed eyelids.
A teen girl bolted into an upright position clutching the front of her nightgown gasping for air. Brown hair that was usually unruly was plastered to her face due to the amount of sweating that was going on while reliving the worst day of her life via a nightmare.
She looked around the large room. It was dark but her eyes adjusted to the room that held 3 other beds with sleeping children in them.
"Rin? Are you okay?" a voice whispered.
She turned to the sound of the voice. It was Sakura. Staring at her with concern in her eyes. She was one of the few who knew of the haunting nightmares that never let up every night since she came to the orphanage.
Rin nodded her head and proceeded to lay back down and closed her eyes. Wiping the hair out of her eyes and face. Her nightgown was slightly damp but it was nothing she could do.
Every night she would dream of her home invasion of her family being killed while she hid. After that they lit the house on fire. The neighbors saw the smoke and called the police. That's the only reason Rin was alive today. But sadly she had no other family to take her in. Now she lives here in an orphanage.
As her heart slowed she felt herself being pulled back to hopefully a dreamless slumber.
School was always the same the girls picked on her because of her status. But today they were extremely ruff. They just couldn't understand why she wouldn't talk. So they slapped her, trying to see if they could get a sound out. Rin touched her face and winced. Noone said the first year of high school would be like this. 16 years of living on this earth and most of her years were miserable. Living in an orphanage for the past 6/7 years was hell already, never having new clothes, barely having enough to eat. Sharing a room with other girls. This was no way for kids to grow up without having a family, toys, parties or anything.
When the final bell rang Rin hightailed it out the building. Not wanting to go to the orphanage right after school she decided to go to her secret spot. A small secluded open field filled with flowers. She loved to lounge out in the field sometimes with a book she got from the school library. It's off a trail and nobody was ever there when Rin went. So she claimed it for herself.
But today was different when she arrived. It was extremely quiet as she walked off trail to her spot and stopped when she saw him. A young man was there sitting leaning up against a tree, his left arm sleeve covered in blood.
He turned his head in her direction. Golden eyes beamed into the treeline. His hair was so long it pooled beside him in waves of silver silk. Demon markings adored his impassive face. He was literally the most beautiful man she had ever seen. He looked made out of marble.
She stepped out. She knew all demons had heightened senses and it was no use to hide. When she walked toward him his eyes flashed red, but she kept going.
Humans scared her more than demons did anyways. It was humans who killed her family. It was humans who bullied her everyday. He watched her every move as she came closer to him and sat down a few feet away.
He was in her secret place and she wouldn't let him run her out.
She peered at his arm, curious. It seems to have been slashed or something. She rummages around for her handkerchief for him.
She could feel his gaze on her watching.
Once she found it she offered it to him.
"I don't need such a thing. I'll heal on my own." he replied. His voice was deeper than any ocean Rin was hypnotized. A great face and matching voice the combo was killer.
He peered at the side of her face where she was sure she bruised from earlier.
"What happened to your face?" he asked
Rin cocked her head to the side, not really able to answer. And here she was wanting to answer someone she didn't know. But he compelled her. She didn't even know if her voice even worked anymore. Before she had a chance to ponder on it some more he was talking again.
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." he said
A complete stranger was asking about her bruise. No one at the orphanage even batted an eye. At this Rin just smiled.
The demon's eyes widened slightly, before returning to an impassive face. He leaned back against the tree and closed his eyes.
Rin figured he was done talking and decided to do what homework she had before she had to leave.
In between "working" she would steal glances at him. He kept his eyes closed. They did say you did most of your healing while sleeping. The afternoon seemed to move faster with him around. He was a mystery and she wanted to be polite and not dig too deep into what was going on.. He was a person, well sort of. And he didn't seem bothered so she wouldn't let it bother her. She peered at her watch it was 6:30pm, and curfew was at 7:00pm she had to go.
She started packing up her things when she felt a sensation. She peeked over her shoulder, golden eyes was watching her. She finished up quickly and if she was late she'd miss dinner. Standing up she bowed in front of the young man. It just seemed right even with his shirt bloody you can tell by his clothes he had high status. Hell just looking at his face you could tell.
He gave a slight nod back and she was gone with one last look over her shoulder she saw him staring back.
She made it back home just in time. And after all the hot water was used up because she was last to the house she was finally able to shower and lay down.
That night she dreamed of a golden eye man instead of her tragic past.
Afterschool Rin bolted out the doors. Today wasn't so bad. She managed to stay outta site. She made her way to her spot wanting to see the young man again. But he wasn't there.
Solemnly Rin did her homework and a little reading. Staying for as long as she could hoping to see him again. She would even miss dinner. But when he didn't show she started to pack her things up and head home.
It was getting dark and fast. She decided to take a shortcut. Wrong Idea: it was a bunch of older guys hanging around.
Rin tried her best to walk past fast and not be noticed but of course that would be asking for too much.
"Hey girl wanna hang out?" one of them bellowed at her.
She kept walking.
"Hey! We're talking to you dont ignore us you bitch!" another yelled
She could hear their footsteps approaching from behind her and just when she was going to bolt one grabbed her hair.
Tears stung the corner of her eyes. It buckled her knees the amount of force he used. She glared back up at the offenders.
"Ooh feisty are we, well let's see what you can do for us..."
Rin knew that she would have to fight her way out and just as the leader was reaching for her a voice interrupted.
"This is exactly why I hate humans". the deep voice echoed off the walls of the alley.
Everyone turned to the voice, it was him. Standing in all his silver glory was the young man from yesterday. Today he was dressed in a relaxed shirt that looked expensive even from a distance, pants and shoes that didn't have a spec of dirt on them. Both arms relaxed at his side. One actually growing green. He was right, it healed on its own.
They were startled and one look at him had them running.
"Pathetic." he said out loud but if he was talking about them or me I wasn't so sure.
"Come."
Now he defictianly was talking to me. I got up on shaking legs. That was close who knows what they would have done and I don't even have a voice. That last thought had Rin's knees buckling.
But right before she hit the ground she was in his arms. Heart beating in over time she looked in the face of her savior. Truly he was a work of art. The crescent moon on his forehead and his stripped cheeks and eyelids. He regarded her with an impassive look. She mouthed a thank you.
"Hm." was the only reply she got. He quickly places her in a sleek black car parked on the street. Once buckled in, he made quick long strides and was on the other side of the car. He pushed a button and it roared to life and we were on our way.
"Where do you live?" he asked
She jotted the address down on a piece of paper and showed him. She didn't have a cell phone. She couldn't afford it.
He didn't change directions. But stopped at a convenience store. He was in and out coming back out with a bento meal. She hoped it was for her after she calmed down she noticed how hungry she was. She checked the dash after 7pm the clock read.
"Yep missed dinner." she thought.
He climbed back in and handed her the container.
"Eat." he commanded
She did, not caring how she looked. She was allowed to have a moment of grace after what just happened. Now it seemed like they were headed in the right direction and that line of thought brought about questions. Like who was he, how old was he? How could he afford this car? What did he do? He hated humans but she was one…..
"How old are you?" he asked. Seemed like he had questions also. I jotted down my name and age.
"Ono Rin 16." She held up the paper.
"Rin." he read outloud.
Her skin heated. She hoped he didn't have a good nose, his voice was doing something to her. She pressed her legs hopefully a gesture he dissent notice. It was just that he smelled good, he looked good. His teeth were perfect. He was perfect and not only that he saved her. It was like a cheesy romance story and she was the star. But would he really sweep her away from this crusty life she was living.
He stopped just right before the building. Thank goodness I could only imagine what the staff and kids would think. They would probably think she was selling herself. She desperately wanted to see him again and to know his name.
She mouths another thank you. She was gathering her book bag and trash when he spoke again.
"I will see you tomorrow , Rin." There he goes using her name, making her skin heat. She definitely was a raging ball of hormones right now. It was embarrassing. She cocked her head to the side showing him her confusion. Like when and where we are meeting tomorrow. But he offered no extra explanation.
She caught movement and it was his hand going toward her face and he ran a finger over her cheek. It didn't hurt anymore but it was still bruised.
"Im Sesshomaru. Now hurry, Rin." he said, seductive almost. Or that could just be her own ears playing tricks on her. I quickly walked the little ways to the orphanage all while looking over my shoulder. Once I was on the front porch I watched his car pass by.
My voice is as light as air.
"Sesshomaru."
