Jaune Arc: Legion

The morning sun peaked over the horizon and shined it's light on the school know as Beacon, as if to greet all it's students to a new day.

The sun peaked between the blinds of the window of the dorm room that belonged to team JNPR, and shined it's bright light onto the eyes of Pyrrha Nikos, causing her to awaken from her slumber.

She sat up from her bed and stretched herself, she then remembered how Jaune hadn't returned to the dorm room before they went to sleep, she looked over to his bed and was greeted with the sight of Jaune sleeping peacefully in his sleep.

She wanted to wake him and ask him a few questions, but since he arrived late she decided instead to take a shower first and get herself dress in her school uniform.

When she walked out of the bathroom fully dressed she saw Nora straddling Jaune, grabbing him by the color of his pajamas and shaking him slightly.

"WHERE WERE YOU!?" Nora yelled.

"Good morning to you to Nora!" Jaune said, trying to free himself from his teammate's super strong grip.

"Nora as a point though, we went to sleep before you arrived." Ren added.

"I know, the dust shop downtown was suprisingly busy that night, and I even had to fight a few guys over some of the dust crystals." Jaune explained, rolling up one of his sleeves to show a small purple bruise on his arm.

"AND YOU DIDN'T INVITE ME!?" Nora yelled again.

"This bruise is small but it looks really bad." Ren said, while he inspected Jaune's arm."It doesn't look like your Aura finished healing it, I'll go grab the first aid kit."

"Yeah, sorry about that, I expended alot of Aura in that fight and my I haven't rested enough to fully replenish my pool of Aura." Jaune explains."I rather not expend even more aura that I already have."

"So..." Pyrrha finally spoke up getting everyone's attention. "Did you manage to accomplish your task?"

"What task?" Jaune asked confused, before he realized what she meant."Oh! You mean the dust crystals, yeah, I managed to deliver them safely to the teachers."

Pyrrha didn't fully buy his excuse, but she decided to drop the subject, she could grill him for information later, right now they had more important things to do.

"Alright, we should get moving, today we've got a Grimm studies class with Professor Port, after that we have history with Oobleck and after lunch break we have a combat class with Professor Goodwitch, followed by another class with Prof. Port." Pyrrha explained.

"Nora, you go and take the shower next." Ren instructed, sitting next to Jaune with a first aid kit on his lap. "You can go next Jaune and after that, once I finish applying the first aid I'll take mine."

"Got it Ren!" Nora claimed before rushing into the bathroom and closing the door behind her.

"Nah, it's fine Ren, I took a shower when I arrived late at night." Jaune explained."I was really sweaty and I didn't want to stain my bed with bloo- sweat!"

"Oh... alright then, I'll apply the first aid now then and take my shower after I'm done." Ren stated.

Ren then began to apply the first aid while Pyrrha stood on the sidelines just watching them interact, Ren applied the first aid spray.

"HAAA!" Jaune yelped in pain, before breath in from the mouth through his teeth. "That stings!"

"Stand still Jaune!" Ren ordered."The more you move, the longer it takes to apply the spray, the longer it takes the more it will sting!"

This interaction got a giggle out of Pyrrha.

Soon after, Ren applied some bandages around Jaune's bruise and went to take his shower, the team then left their dorm room and met outside with team RWBY.

While Pyrrha Ren and Nora were just making some general small talk with team RWBY, Jaune stood on the sidelines just thinking to himself, thinking about the night prior and his Semblance that he named Legion.

Jaune remembered he stayed in the forest for a while to test his Semblance to gain a better understanding of it, what he managed to figure out was the following:

Turns out that when Jaune slays a Grimm and turns it into a minion for his legion, he has to expend a small amount of his Aura to summon them, and it seemed like the bigger and more powerful the Grimm, the more Aura he had to expend to summon it.

If one of his inverted Grimm gets slain ed in combat, he can expend more of his Aura to summon them again as if they were never slain ed.

This was a very dangerous limitation, if he kept doing this until he ran out of Aura not only would he not be able to protect himself with his Aura from damage, but if he would not be able to summon Grimm to protect him.

He also realized that Grimm who are slayed by his Inverted Grimm aren't added to his legion, meaning that if he wants to add more Grimm to his legion he needs to command his legion of Grimm to restrain or damage the Grimm without killing them, so he can step in and land a killing blow with his Aura charged sword, only that way could he had those Grimm to his ranks.

While practicing he managed to kill a few more Grimm, mainly a few Creep Grimm and even an Alpha Creep.

Once teams JNPR and RWBY reached their Grimm studies class they sat on their usual seats and waited for Prof. Port to show up and begin his lecture, the teams continued their casual chat, Pyrrha was looking down to where Jaune was sitting, she noticed how distant he was, and now he had a hand on his chin as if he was thinking about something really hard.

There's got to be a way to minimize the amount of Aura I consume when I summon my Legion, maybe there's some way to restore Aura while in combat...If I can find some way to work around that I could crush anyone who stands in my way.

As Jaune was thinking this he didn't realize that he had his wicked smile on his face again, Pyrrha seemed to be the only one who noticed this strange behavior.

Jaune had been acting strange ever since last night, she was about to walk up to Jaune's seat and ask him what was wrong, but she stopped herself when she saw the door to the classroom open up.

In walked Prof. Port, looking as jolly as ever.

"Good morning class!" He proclaimed, getting the entire class's atenttion. "I hope you are all excited for Grimm studies, because today I got something very interesting to tell you about."

"How much do ya wanna bet it's just another story of his youth?" Yang asked her younger sister.

"How about 15 Lien?" Ruby claimed.

"Ahem!" Port cleared his throat getting the girl's attention seemed to have heard them whispering.

"Today we are going to be talk about one Grimm in particular." Port explained.

"Dang it." Yang whispered to herself with discontent, before she snuck an arm behind Weiss with 15 Lien on her hand.

"Thank you." Sung Ruby, who grabbed the Lien from behind Weiss.

"Will the both of you be quite!?" Weiss whispered."I am trying to pay attention!"

Meanwhile, Prof. Port pulled a small controller from his pocket, he pressed a button which caused all the lights in the classroom to dim, he then pressed another button which caused a hatch to open in the ceiling and from it slowly lowered a projector.

"The Grimm we are going to be talking about is this one." Prof. Port said, before pressing another button, activating the projector and displaying an image.

When the students all saw the image the thought it was an image of...a mosquito...but upon closer inspection, they saw that the mosquito had red eyes and the same red markings that they associate with the creatures of Grimm.

"These Grimm are know as "Skeeter Grimm", they resemble mosquitoes, act like them and are about the same size as them, they can't grow above 19 mm." Prof. Port explained before turning to the class.

"Now, I am sure many of you are thinking" Prof. Port said, predicting some of the student's thoughts."Prof. Port, this these Grimm are like mosquito in every way, why should we be afraid of them? The most we have to worry about is some small bites that our Aura can heal very quickly."

"We'll that's where the catch is, you see students, where these Skeeter Grimm become very different from mosquito is in their diet." Prof. Port explained. "Unlike mosquito, Skeeter Grimm do not feed on Blood, they feed on Aura..."

This surprised alot of his students, especially Jaune.

A Grimm that can feed on Aura...This class just got a whole lot more interesting...

"You see students, these creatures of Grimm seemed to have adapted to understand that Aura is a human's best line of defense against them, and while you won't have to fear these Grimm killing you, if they drain too much of your Aura, then you will be completely helpless against a Beowulf should you came across once, since you won't have the aura to protect yourselves." Prof. Port explained.

"Each of these Skeeters can slowly drain Aura from a huntsman without them noticing, and they can drain about 20% of the average huntsman's Aura in about a minute, which means about 5 of these could completely drain a huntsman of his precious Aura in five minutes without them noticing, leaving them completely naked against larger and more dangerous Grimm."

The students were really engaged by this lecture, Pyrrha teared her eyes away from the projection just long enough to see Jaune writing down everything Prof. Port was saying on his notebook.

"You may think you will be safe from this Grimm if you put on an Aura barrier around you, but you are mistaken." Port stated."For you see, the Proboscis, which is the stinger that punctures the skin and drains the aura, is as sharp as a surgery blade, so sharp it can even pierce an Aura barrier with enough force."

"Which is why you should make good use of your five senses in and outside of combat students, so that you can destroy these Grimm before they aid in your Huntsman's career being cut drastically short." Prof. Port finished his speech, he then pressed a button on his controller that turned off the projector and caused it to raise back into the ceiling hatch before it closed.

Professor Port pressed another button on the controller to bring the classroom lights back to normal, several students were clapping at the lecture.

"Thank you! Thank you very much." Prof. Port said, bowing to the class like an actor on a theater play."Now, before we end this class, does anyone have any remaining questions?"

Once he heard this, Jaune placed down his pencil and notebook and raised his hand.

"Mr. Arc. What is your question?" Prof. Port asked.

"Actually sir, I got two questions." Jaune clarified.

"Two question!? My, your enthusiasms to learning has moved me!" Prof. Port sniffed, as if trying not to cry. "I will do my best to answer your questions! So please, ask away Mr. Arc!"

"Okay..." Jaune said, slightly weirded out by his teacher's reaction. "I understand certain Grimm are only common in certain regions and kingdoms, in what areas can we expect to find these Grimm?"

"Excellent question Mr. Arc!" Port complimented his student."And the excellent answer is that you are more likely to find them in Mistral and Vale, especially during summer."

"You see, that is another behavior they have in common with mosquitoes, flooding rains create breeding grounds for mosquitoes, and then the hot summer temperatures provide the perfect hatching environments." Port elaborated further. "And much like many other insects, they can't survive in extremely could environments, so you are very unlikely to find them in Atlas or Mantle, as for Vacuo, while it has the hot climate, years of warfare have destroyed most of the natural flora in the kingdom, so it's filled with deserts, so while not to the same extent as Atlas and Mantle, it's also very unlikely to find them in Vacuo."

"I see..." Jaune pondered."As for my second question, is it possible to find these Grimm in the Emerald forest?"

"Another excellent question Mr. Arc!" Port praised."You see, the reason we use the Emerald forest as a place to train and test our newest students is because it has what one might consider "Fodder Grimm", the most dangerous Grimm once is likely to find are Alpha versions of Beowolves, Ursai and Creeps."

"However, it's definitely not impossible, after all you all fought a Death Stalker and a Nevermore, far above the average fodder." Port added."In fact, the reason I decided to teach you about this Grimm in particular is because I was given a task by Ozpin, his cameras in the Emerald Forest spotted several Skeeters flying around, so it would seem there are several nests of these Grimm around, and I've been asked to go to the Emerald forest to destroy those nests."

This got a grin out of Jaune as he got an idea.

"Which unfortunately means I won't be present to give another class later today." Port said."Which is more time you can dedicate to perfecting your craft or studying."

Most of the students were secretly happy they weren't going to have a second class with Port today, but they did their best not to show it.

After Port answered a few most questions from other students the class was dismissed, as the students started walking out, Jaune turned to his team and team RWBY.

"You guys go on ahead, I got something I need to do, I'll meet you next class when I'm done." Pyrrha wanted to ask why but before she could, Jaune raised a hand silencing her."I'll explain during lunch, I don't have much time."

They decided not to press him for answers and went to the wait for the next class without him, Jaune walked out and looked down the hallway to see Prof. Port walking away.

"Excuse me! Prof. Port!" Jaune called out.

"Ah, Mister Arc, is there something else you would like to ask." Port asked, turning around to face Jaune.

"Yes...I was wondering...do you think I can come with you to destroy does Skeeter nests?" Jaune asked.

Port seemed to pause at this...

"I feel compelled to ask why." Port said.

"Well, you see...It's not a secret that I am not as good of a fighter as any of my team members..." Jaune started explaining."They all have much more experience and I am going to need to work extra hard to catch up, as their leader, I have heavy expectations placed on my shoulders, and I need to take any chance I can to become better, if that means taking extra assignments, then so be it."

There was a moment of silence, which was then broken by the sounds of Port sniffing and crying.

"Oh my! You drive to better yourself as moved me deeply!" Port said between sniffs."First in class, now here, I am soooo proud to be your teacher!"

"Very well! I shall take you with me in my journey to destroy does nests!" Port said, wiping his tears away from his eyes with his sleeve."For now, go attend your class with Oobleck and be sure to enjoy your lunch break, its bad idea to fight Grimm on an empty stomach and after you finish combat training with Glynda come meet me at Beacon's courtyard, in front of the statue."

"Yes sir!" Jaune said with a soldier salute.

Afterwards Port walked away and Jaune walked back over to his classroom for the next class, not bothering to hide his content smile.

These Skeeter Grimm might just be the work around the Aura problem I was looking for...
