Secret Sleuths

It wasn't long until after Mokuba and his friends left London when Basil left to present his own reports. He came to a castle that was more enchanted than the one the Dark Masters resided in. This castle was filled with good enchantments and was housed by the heroes of the worlds. Basil would often come to the castle to take part in meetings with his fellow heroes or present any newfound information regarding his cases that involved the Dark Masters.

The detective came to a room with a door that was slightly ajar. It was the private quarters of one of the greatest sorcerers of these worlds – Master Yen Sid. He was a man garbed in blue robes and he often wore a conical blue hat patterned with stars and a crescent moon. He helped govern the worlds and protect the peace between them.

The sorcerer took notice of the detective's presence. "Step forward," he commanded. Basil obeyed and approached the desk. Master Yen Sid used his magic to lift the detective and gently place him on his desk. "You bring news, I presume?"

Basil took a second to compose himself. It was somewhat intimidating, being in the presence of this sorcerer. "I apologize for disturbing you, but I have new evidence regarding these recent events," he said. He presented his reports, explaining how he met Mokuba, Rebecca, and Leon and interrogated them about how they came to Paris and what had transpired.

Master Yen Sid used his magic to enlarge the papers and began reading through them as he listened to Basil's story. So it was true. They came to these worlds by coming to the Secret Garden and finding doors to these worlds. This meant that their call for help had been answered.

However, this was also something to be concerned about because the Dark Masters were just as aware of these events as well. At least, the events in which the children and their friends were being sighted. But hopefully, they didn't know how the heroes were coming to their worlds.

"Master," Basil was saying, "what should we do about this?"

The sorcerer looked away from the report and fixed his gaze back on the detective. "I believe we can trust these children. I also believe that we may need the help of Millennia's warriors in finally stopping the Dark Masters and restoring peace to our worlds."

Basil recalled what he said to himself before he left Baker Street. He had the opinion that the Heroes of Millennia could very well be their only hope. "I agree, Master, however…"

"What's wrong?"

The detective confessed his worries about what would happen if Mokuba and his friends were to return to Paris to take part in the Feast of Fools. He was afraid that the minister would still do something to likely hurt the children because of their affiliation with the Heroes of Millennia. The detective was also worried that their friendship with Quasimodo would be challenged because of the hunchback's loyalty to his master. "And while I also believe that the Heroes of Millennia may be able to help us, I'm also concerned about the thought of them going to Paris as well." He looked at Yen Sid and explained, "As we all know, that depraved minister is consumed with lust for the princess. He may very well attempt to violate her of her innocence before attempting to kill her."

The sorcerer shared the detective's concern. He recalled hearing about how that actually did almost happen when the Heroes of Millennia first confronted Frollo. The minister was only able to control his lust at that time because the heroes were vulnerable and he would have found no pleasure in carrying out his insidious intentions on weak enemies.

Finally, Yen Sid spoke and said, "I suggest we keep observing our friends."

"Really?" Basil asked, surprised.

"Yes," he answered. "Let's allow them to keep coming to our worlds. After all, they are our guests as well as our allies and many of our citizens have begun to trust them."

"Well, I suppose," Basil said, looking away.

"There is no need to worry, Detective," Yen Sid assured him. "The Heroes of Millennia are strong in body and spirit. And their young friends have what it takes to be warriors like them. However, I do want them to be under the protection of you and our other fellow heroes."

The detective nodded in acknowledgement. "I understand. But I'll only be able to do what I can while they're in my world. I can't protect them in any of the other worlds."

That was understandable. While these worlds were connected, no one wanted to take the risk of upsetting the balances. But the heroes of these worlds would still be able to provide their protection and assistance in secrecy.

Yen Sid dismissed Basil, telling him he was permitted to go. The detective took his leave and began making the trek back to his home. The sorcerer then looked back at the report, thinking that the Heroes of Millennia could very well be the key in stopping the Dark Masters. He didn't expect his and his people's request for help to be answered in this way, but he was glad it turned out the way it did.

Meanwhile, back in the town of Domino, Mokuba stepped into his brother's office. "Hey, Seto, would it be all right if my friends and I borrowed your research on the four Dark Masters?" he inquired.

"What for?" Kaiba asked, keeping his eyes on the computer as he was working.

"Well, we want to help for when the time comes for when you guys will have to face them," the raven-haired lad was saying, "starting with doing our own investigations."

The elder brother stood up and said in a stern voice, "Absolutely not. I will not endanger you in such a way."

"But, Seto-,"

"But nothing," Kaiba interrupted. "These lunatics are pure evil. You and I both know that. We may have only faced one Dark Master, but he proved himself to be a dangerous enemy." He didn't want his younger brother to go through the danger of being kidnapped again. He also didn't want to think of any other possible dangers like torture or even death.

As much as Mokuba wanted to argue that he wasn't helpless and could handle himself, he had to admit that his brother had a point. The Dark Masters were dangerous and their lackeys were just as evil. He remembered what he went through and figured he wasn't ready to face those villains head-on just yet. "But what if my friends and I did our own research and used it to help you?"

Kaiba didn't need to spend a lot of time thinking about that. "So long as you're not observing those villains at a dangerous level. I don't care if you have an ideal place that seems safe like in the cathedral. Who's to say the minister won't attack you while you're in the bell tower visiting your friend?"

"Will you relax?" Mokuba groaned. "Jeez, you sound like the detective." Then he softly gasped at what he just said.

That piqued Kaiba's curiosity. "What detective?" he wondered.

"Oops," the younger brother mumbled, realizing he said too much. Now that he had let that small detail slip, he was going to have to fess up about his adventure in London.

"Mokuba, who are you talking about?" the brunette asked again.

The raven-haired lad stammered for a bit, trying to think of an answer. "He's just someone of my acquaintance from another world," he sheepishly replied.

Kaiba continued to pressure him. "Which world?" He wondered if this detective was from a world he and his own friends had not visited yet; one that was recently discovered by his brother.

Mokuba then got an idea on how to bribe his brother. "If I tell, can I borrow your research and share it with my friends?"

The brunette didn't want to agree with his brother's bribe. However, he did want answers. He opened a file cabinet that he used for personal and private business and pulled out a folder that contained his research on the four Dark Masters. "I'm listening," he said with a tone of impatience.

Mokuba inhaled sharply and began his story, saying he and Rebecca and Leon found a door to the world of Victorian London and were turned into mice. Then they made friends with a mouse girl named Olivia Flaversham and learned to help make toys with her father Hiram Flaversham. Then one day, while they were exploring, they met an evil rat named Professor Ratigan. Before the rat could do anything, he was stopped by a detective named Basil, who had come to stop him from hurting the children. The detective then brought the children to his home, saying he heard about their adventures in Paris and he began questioning them about it. After that, Basil told the children to go home to their world because it wasn't safe in London or in any of the other worlds at the moment.

"Basil said he would report to his superiors, but he didn't say who," Mokuba concluded. "But I know he wants to help stop the Dark Masters too."

As Kaiba listened, he noticed that Mokuba was being too brief, leaving out certain details that he obviously didn't want his brother to know. The brunette figured he was going to have to do some more research of his own by going to the secret headquarters. But instead of forcing it upon his brother to add more to the matter, he handed over the folder. Mokuba thanked his brother and walked out of the office with the folder in hand.

Just then, Kaiba's phone went off, signaling that he received a text message. It was from Emily, asking if he wanted to go to the Secret Garden right now. What luck. He was just thinking about calling her and asking her. He replied, saying he was available and he asked her to bring Yugi and Joey along. He got out of his business suit and dressed into his usual dark clothes and white jacket and told Agumon to manage things while he was gone. The reptilian Digimon gave a salute as he watched his partner leave. It made Agumon sad that he couldn't always go with Kaiba anymore, but he tried not to let it bother him. He knew how important it was to manage the company.
