"Mezameru*..."

"Mezameru."

"Oi, Link! GET UP!"

Link flung himself out of bed and landed in a pitiful heap on the carpet. He groaned as a glowing blue cyber elf with glittery wings buzzed around his head like a pesky mosquito. "About time you got up sleepyhead! Me and Takeo have already been up since sunrise!" Navi scolded.

Link raised an eyebrow, "Takeo?" Just then a large mass slammed into his body. The robotic boy looked up to find the mechaniloid wolf from yesterday staring at him with icy eyes.

"Oh, Takeo... Nice to meet you and Navi." He rubbed the wolf's synthetic fur and it echoed its pleasure with a low growl akin to humming. "Ahem." The young reploid turned to his cyber elf.

"Down to business, Dr. Avalon informed me that the Hylian Council will not be here in three months. He had to zoom off to another meeting with those paranoid officers, or so he likes to call them. So, in the meantime, you can make yourself at home. And I think the best way to start the day is cleaning yourself up!"

She clucked her tongue at Link's disheveled appearance. The android carefully pushed Takeo off him and stood up. "Alright, Navi! I'll get ready, I just hope Dr. Avalon does not get the Emperor and Major Signus even more mad at him." He soon regretted letting the cat slip out when Navi shrieked in horror. Link and Takeo jumped back as they held their sensors in pain. All the glass windows within perimeter of their house shattered from the digital fairy's piercing scream.

"HE DID WHAT?!" Navi demanded as she began hopping on the blonde's head in fury.

"DOES HE WANT TO GET YOU SCRAPPED BEFORE YOU EVEN LIVE FOR A WEEK?!" The blonde quickly snatched the embroiled elf in his grasp. "Calm down for goodness sake! So yes, Dr. Avalon did nearly break the law in building me-YEOUCH!"

He let go of the cyber elf as he clutched his electrocuted hand. He stepped back when he noticed that Navi blazed like a ghostly ball of fire.

"So let me get this straight. I've been assigned to a newbuilt who has been illegitimately built by his inventor. Not at all worried that the Emperor of Nippon found out and can order both of your deaths at a moment's notice?" Link sadly smiled. "I'm afraid your right. So please-"

The next scream pulverized every glass item in the neighborhood! "Let's just forget I even said anything..." The cybernetic teenager moaned as he held a cracked sensor with his right hand.

The elf turned rose pink when she realized what she done. "Link! Takeo! I'm so sorry! Let me repair the both of you!" Navi rushed to Link's sensor and enveloped it in her blue light. Moments later the damage was fully mended. The fairy then hovered over to Takeo's sensors and administered the same treatment. After she was done, she tsked, "Link, I would rather not be a bearer of bad news. But I think the scientist who made you is screwed."

The green-clad boy sighed dramatically, "Thank you for your keen observations, Captain Obvious!" "Seriously, Link. What exactly could he be planning if he's bold enough to faze the law and get the government mad at him?!" "To be fair, he barely missed crossing the line."

"Which is just as bad as actually crossing the line." "Actually Navi, shouldn't you have been the one to tell me what he done instead of the other way around?" "I was born a month ago and he forced me to stay at home without telling me a thing!"

"Never mind." "I know right? Which is why we got to figure out what he's up to before the Hylian Council arrives!" The reploid's optic sensors widened with bafflement. "What?"

The determined fairy landed delicately on his nose. "Come on sleepyhead! Your life is on the line because Dr. Avalon has to be plotting something if he's willing to go so far just to achieve his ends! Which is why we got to discover whatever it is and see if we can fix it before it's too late!"

The boy felt hesitant, "Uuuuhhhhh, whatever he did to construct me-I'm not sure if it can be undone without dismantling me first." "No problem! I'll just repair you right after!" "And if you can't?" "Do not conjure up the worst-case scenarios for goodness sake! You may be a robot, Link. But can you truly accept the hazardous position your in right now? And what might happen as a consequence of Dr. Avalon's choices? I personally believe you shouldn't allow the doc to drag you into his shady scheme..."

The newbuilt closed his eyes for reflection. He had hardly entered the world and already he had to deal with deception and moral boundaries. He thought about what the emperor thought of him. He desperately wanted to live, yet at the same time he did not want his presence to hurt anybody. He thought of the two worlds the stimulation tests had prepared him to engage in. Personally, he would not want to be the cause of war between the two nations. What if he was not really a threat as Dr. Avalon insisted?

Maybe the government was just being paranoid, governments were not always so clean themselves as the stimulation taught him. On second thought... The tests on dealing with the government always involved shirking their authority, accomplishing his mission with little of their interference as possible, and only paying ado them just so they could get off his back... Deep inside, he felt like something within twist. Does Dr. Avalon want me to resist the government on purpose?

Sure, the people who made up the political body could be no better than his "father". Yet considering how Navi reacted, what if he was taught wrong?

Then he registered what Navi said earlier... "Navi, is Dr. Avalon responsible for you?" She bobbed up and down which indicated no. "Negative. I was designed by Dr. Avalon's sister, Professor Mikaya. Her brother has asked her to make me for you, since cyber elves is her master expertise. She also volunteered as a stand-in for one of the crew members who developed you when they got sick. But don't worry she taught me all the ropes on society. Which is why I strongly recommend we deduce what her brother is up to." She proclaimed.

Link blinked back at his fairy. Apparently, the education they had sharply contrasted from the cyber elf's. As much as he didn't want to admit it, his cyber elf probably had a more steadfast moral grounding than he did. After all, he knew that his construction involved some kind of infringement that downplayed the law. Also, that Dr. Avalon should not be resorting to lawlessness despite his cunningness in playing it safe. A faint whisper resonating in the back of his computer brain coaxed him to throw away his overwhelming suspicions. Claiming that no crime had been committed with Dr. Avalon only following through with the contract.

The contract... That's it!

"Navi, there is a very crucial document that can clarify if the man who made me is trespassing the law or not. He signed a contract with the Hylian Council when he agreed to build me. If we can somehow find the contract, we can comprehend exactly what's going on. " The digital fairy performed three flips in the air. " Subarashi*, Link! That should mark the beginning of our investigation! With Fairylocke Holmes on the case and her wonderful assistant, Dr. L Watson! "

" Fairylocke-I should be the detective! " Link protested. (He did not solve endless puzzles, riddles, and crises within the simulation for nothing!) Navi fluttered over to a chest bedazzled with plastic rupees which she opened. She twittered triumphantly, "Simple. Your equipped to be the hero while I'm equipped to be the detective!" She placed the signature hat proudly on her-er, orb-like body and tried her hardest not to sink to the ground.

The hat was so heavy, she had to rest upon Takeo's head. The blonde knelt down to eye-level and asked jovially, "So what's our strategy, commander " Harkening well to his military tests. The tiny detective materialized an energy crystal she began chewing on. "Elementary, my dear Link. We simply wait for the time to strike." The teenager could hardly believe it. "What?! How is that accomplishing anything!?"

"Do not be impatient, Link." Navi answered coolly, "I saw Dr. Avalon taking a briefcase containing the paperwork he needed to convince the government he is complying with the law. (Although it's clear that's a lot of bunk.) Which meant he most likely took the contract with him to prove his point. Which is why we must wait until tonight for the cookie of opportunity."

"Cookies? So we get to have snacks while were at it?" The boy brightened up.

"No! It's an expression for waiting for the right time to strike! No cookies for you!"

"Even if I make the plan succeed?" He grinned slyly.

"That's enough from you! Reploids cannot even eat!"

"Well for your information, I can."

"How in the systematics of robotics can that be helpful to you?!"

"Well, he did tell me its a real shame reploids can't utilize his potions-"

"I officially close this topic until we have the proper time!"

"But we have the whole day-"

"I SAID OVER, LINK!"

After tolerating the robot boy's playful antics, they got down to business in formulating their heist. So, when the master of the estate returned home that night-he would have no idea what hit him. "Link, my dear boy! I hope you've made yourself at home!" The roboticist ruffled the blonde's hair affectionately. "Yeah, I really find it cozy here..." He cringed from the man's touch.

Suddenly, a loud CRASH echoed from the kitchen followed by a indignant screech, "GET THIS WOLF OUT OF MY KITCHEN!" Dr. Avalon frowned as he handed the boy his briefcase before hurrying towards the kitchen. "What could be possibly going on? Any mechaniloid of mine should not be suffering from glitchy programming... Make sure to put my briefcase in my office, Link." He requested as he left to aid the distressed cook.

The green-clad teenager could not believe his luck. He dashed off to his room without being tailed by Avalon's dragon butler. (The A. I. at the moment being pestered by Navi.) In the safety of his room, Link flicked open a box of special tools. Which Navi had "liberated" from the storage basement while Link "accidentally" got himself entangled in the garden hose outside to the butler's dismay. Never careless with his property, the scientific genius of course had fully-proofed the case so no machine could scan the inside as well as preventing anyone from opening or penetrating it.

The reploid carefully placed a small metal circle onto the lock of the case. A few sparks emitted from the circle before it flashed a red dot. With the defenses down, he only had five minutes to analyze its contents. He speedily memorized every last word before debugging the case so it would not register that it had been hacked. Then a familiar ping came to his comm,

"Hurry, Link! Get to his office before the creepy butler shows up!"

BAM! Link had to contain his strength from smashing the door open as he made a mad dash towards Avalon's private office. He raced across the house as his sensors hastily searched for where he needed to go. He skidded to a halt when he approached a fusuma depicting his father posing thoughtfully at his desk. He had hardly guessed this might be it when a brass voice inquired, "What are you doing with your father's briefcase young Master Link?"

The android turned to face the golden dragon that appeared on the fusuma behind him. The teenager did his best to remain composed. "Father asked me to return his briefcase to his office that's all." The dragon did not hesitate to offer his services, "Then allow me to store it in his office young master." "Of course, thanks!" Link tried to give a perfectly innocent smile. The scaly butler digitalized the case before transporting it into the office.

Then he left to help his "father" calm down, "The troublesome mutt..." The proud servant growled, which revealed the small but grievous history he had with the mechaniloid wolf. Link wasted no time in returning to his room to meet Navi. "You know what, Navi? I need to learn how to teleport. It will make our heists much less stressful." Navi clucked her tongue,

"Sorry, Link, the teleportation ability has to be unlocked first. You need to be registered with the TSA before your allowed to teleport wherever you wish."

"The TSA?" Link questioned as he bent down to welcome a certain black wolf who sauntered into the room. "The TSA stands for Teleporting Safety Association. They are in charge of maintaining all the teleporters in the country and keeping their passengers safe. Fun fact, the Mavericks Hunters have navigators in charge of their teleportation system. And now with the technology crash course out of the way-let's get cracking!"

Link's eyes widened in horror as he covered his precious sensors, "NO! Not again NAVI!"

"Nonononono! I'm not going to scream and blow our cover Link! Its just another expression! Honestly, did the stimulation teach you any literary expressions at all? " Link lowered his arms, "Not too many I'm afraid. But I did pick up a little sarcasm, which I've been told is very useful-"

"Just show me the data you've picked up before dinner is served." Navi chastised before donning her Sherlock hat once more. Link projected a 3D image of the contract he had stored into his memory banks. The holograph represented an unfurled scroll made with paper exclusive to trees found only in Hyrule. Written in cursive script with the ink's chemical formula revealing it was produced by berries. (Terribly old-fashioned, but Hyrule happened to cling a bit tighter to its past then most globalized countries did.)

It ran like this:

In agreement with all the members of the Hylian Council and Sir Avalon, who represents the sovereign of Nippon. In return for the systematics on Shekiah and Hylian technology, Sir Avalon will construct a reploid that will be needed in the incoming era the nation will be facing.

Which is the official opening of Hyrule's boundaries to the outside world. Considering the vulnerability of previous isolation to more social nations, Hyrule will need a defender and ambassador that will stand for it. In other words, one of the two mascots of our kingdom himself, the Wielder of Courage. The Hero, lovingly known as Link by the citizens of Hyrule. Thousands of years ago, a young man who lived in a floating city in the sky, came down to the earth to become the sworn protector of the mortal hostess of the Goddess Hylia. Otherwise known as the beloved Princess Zelda.

Ever since his first triumphant against the forces of Demise and his possession of the Master Sword. He has always returned whenever darkness has threatened the land, soon becoming the chosen of the Goddess Farore. Earning the Triforce of Courage as her blessing. The Hero has always been there in Hyrule's time of need, alas since recent events in our history, we have not always been there for our loyal Guardian. Which is the closest explanation for why the Hero has not returned in three hundred years.

Now that Hyrule is facing potential danger what more, we beg the help of Sir Avalon in our dire time of need. As much as we do not want to offend the great legend of long ago. New circumstances and an impending crisis have forced us to take desperate measures. These are the schematics we wish to be present within the new Guardian that will safeguard Hyrule's future. Failure to comply will result in grave punishment for the transgressor.

Schematics

~Must be oriented with the virtues of courage, selflessness, loyalty, righteousness, valor, compassion, perseverance, kindness, honesty, and humility.

~Must be modeled after a young Hylian lad with blond hair, blue eyes, and clothed in forest green. Our people have lived so long with this image of their Hero, to change his appearance will severely decrease morale!

~He must have all knowledge of our culture, history, beliefs, ideals, our allies, and all aspects of the Hero he is meant to embody.

~He must be endowed with great strength, cunningness, ingenuity, skill, finesse, adaptability, resilience, social grace, and observant.

We know this is an arduous request on your behalf, which is why we extend any help, knowledge, or resources to your aid. All of Hyrule is at your disposal for this essential project. We trust you to follow through with your end of the deal and we will fulfill ours. With this in mind, we ask you keep all contents in the scroll secret to all eyes outside the entrusted parties. Hyrule needs a Hero again, and you must not let us down.

All hail to the new friendship between Nippon and Hyrule! May the heavens bless this union!

King Rhoam, Queen Sapphira, Queen Venus, Chief Riju, Chief Magmor, Queen Aquamarina, Chief Thunderbolt, Emperor Shinobu, Shekiah Commander Impa, Hylian Commander Arn, Major Signus, Grand Advisor Clover, Mediator Sakura, Lord Oak & Lady Birchwood, Sage Ruto, Sage Daruk, Sage Nabooru, Sage Cloudfeather, Sir Avalon

Link bored holes into the contract. "Three...hundred...years?!" He stuttered in an unbelieving whisper. "That's what they say." Navi said. The youngster could hardly wrap his mind around what he learned despite having super-fast processors. "So let me get this straight... I'm basically a replacement for a guy who has not shown up in three whole centuries?! Just what on earth stopped the hero from coming back?! And is Dr. Avalon legit just going to roll with-with, THIS CLONE PROJECT?!"

"I do not know what to tell you Link..." Navi sighed glumly. Even Takeo whined from the unsettling facts. Link rubbed his forehead as the mental strain on his processors gave him the reploid equivalent of a headache. From what he just read; it became crystal clear that Hyrule was beyond desperate if they were attempting this Frankenstein Project... It not only put more weight on Link's shoulders, knowing that an entire country now depended on him. It also gave him the deplorable feeling of being nothing more than a fake.

A fake, that could easily be replaced tomorrow if he so much as failed. Sure, the contract may not have said that directly. However, the foreboding of the second-to-last sentence spoke volumes of how precarious his situation was. So, I am the Hero now. Well, it's not as glorious as I thought it would be...It felt like someone has placed a collar around his neck. Then tightened it so that he could never hope to free himself from it.

The boy could not help but shudder as he imagined what horrendous fate seized the last Hero. Did he commit suicide when Hyrule finally abandoned him? Perhaps he became enslaved in another country? Or what if he was whisked off to some other magical realm where he could not escape? His chilling spiral was interrupted when Navi said, "Now this is odd. The official contract has been completed by Dr. Avalon's handwriting albeit the signatures at the bottom."

Link jerked in puzzlement. "What? He did? But should not the contractors themselves be the ones who detail their own agreement? Are you sure?" His cyber elf hummed as she projected a sample of the roboticist's handwriting which matched with the elaborate script of the contract.

"Although these are definitely the words of the council, Dr. Avalon himself written the contract. The berries that make up his ink are extremely rare variants only found in the Kokori Forest. Lunar blooms, gilded berries, and fairyberries. I'm not sure what he hoped to achieve in writing the contract himself. Being a chemist however, there is definitely a motive behind him choosing this specific ink."

"Can you look up what type of ink it is, Navi?" The cyber elf surfed the Internet for ten minutes until coming up with, "Nada! I bet this is one of his newer concoctions, and of course he is cautious enough not to boast about it on the internet!" She huffed with frustration. Just then Takeo growled at the door. Link just narrowly swiped away his digital copy when their suspect ambled into the room. "Hey short stuff! It's time to eat dinner! Although I strongly advise you learn how to keep Takeo in line."

Link inwardly groaned at the humiliating nickname his guardian gave him as he was led away to supper. Dinner turned out just as delicious as the day before. Japanese styled curry with as much rice or curry sauce as the young boy wanted. Link admitted to himself he liked the snug lifestyle he was living so far. Even the fact that the scientist behaved as if Link was truly "his dear boy ". Alas, with the truth behind his creation in his grasp, he refused to be complacent.

He became determined to discover the true motives of Chikao Avalon.

Fun Facts: Mezamera means " Wake up. " Subarashi means " Excellent. "

Takeo means Warrior Hero. Chikao emphasizes someone who is clever.

Although the Original Sherlock never quoted, " Elementary my dear Watson. " It became signature to the world-beloved character anyway!
