Chapter 1

The Night We Met

"I can't believe he cheated on you, Bec's! I knew he was never good enough for you! That surfer tool! But why are you going back to La Push? Why don't you come down by me? I know dad and Jake will be happy to see you, but it's been so long since we've been there…" Rachel trailed off and Rebecca Black knew without her twin saying it, was bringing up their mother. It was the main reason why both of them moved so far away from home. The memories of their mother's smile, her smell, her voice, everything left a gapping hole in their chest that still hurt even now.

Rebecca sighed, her eyes drifting to the exit sign, signaling 15 miles away from La Push. A light rain started, hitting her windshield as she flipped her lights on.

"Rach, while I appreciate the offer. I'd rather not sleep on your coach and I also had to ship some furniture from Hawaii to Dads." She snorted when she heard her sisters huff of annoyance. Out of the corner of her eye, Rebecca thought she saw a flash of red, but when she gave a quick glance to her left it was gone. "Listen Rach, I'm almost home and it's starting to rain. I'll call you later in the week once I'm settled in?" After hearing her sisters goodbye she quickly disconnected her Bluetooth.

Now alone to her thoughts, Rebecca felt her chest tightened and the familiar moister beginning to form in her eyes. Her soon to be ex husband had been having an affair for the past year with a woman on the island and had finally confessed to the affair. Claiming he had found his true love, that he was divorcing her and that he was sorry. She had barely registered picking up the nearest thing to her and chucking it right at his face. A lot was said that night, but ultimately Rebecca wasn't going to stay and fight for a man who didn't love her and who had betray her.

She was so deep in thought, she hadn't noticed the pothole that was quickly approaching until she felt the tire pop.

"Damnit, Rebecca!" Hurriedly, she tried to gain control of her steering wheel but it was too late. She screamed, as her rental vehicle veered off to the side of the road and into a ditch.

There was a loud crash and Rebecca felt her seatbelt restrict against her body as she jerked forward, her face slamming into the airbag that had deployed.

Groaning, Rebecca had pulled her face away from the airbag. Her body ached everywhere, but she could still move, leaving her hopeful that there wasn't too much damage to her body.

"Just great, just fucking great." She gingerly turned her head to reach for her phone, but of course there was no service in her area and the rain had since picked up. Rebecca knew she couldn't stay here and wait for help. It was already late into the evening and during her drive here she had barely seen any cars.

Rebecca sighed internally, before throwing open the door. It swung open easily, she looked back at the her rental and saw the front of the car was half way in the ditch. Gathering her strength, she grabbed her purse and the keys, unbuckling herself and set a foot out into the the uneven terrain.

She was glad she dressed practical for Washington's weather, wearing a red tank top, with a black scarf, a jeans jacket and Levi pants. Her next task was to get up the ditch and out onto the road, which she did, albeit crawling up the ditch but she made it out. Once she gained equal footing she looked back at the car. "That's gonna cost me." Shaking her head, Rebecca started down the dark road.

Everything was hurting but she had no choice but to keep moving. As she hobbled down the road, Rebecca finally took notice of the warm liquid running down her face and dropping down onto the pavement. Her hand coming up to her forehead to feel around the gash that ran about three inches long.

"Today is really not my day." All she wanted to do was to surprise her Father and Brother, she hadn't told them she was coming.

After only making it a few step, Rebecca was all of the sudden thrown across the road, hitting the pavement hard. She didn't even have the time to recover before she was roughly picked up and dragged away by her legs.

"Wha-" Rebecca tried to look around, but black spots were covering her vision. All she knew was that she was going fast and whoever took her was strong. She tried to lift her head to stop it from being dragged on the ground, but she didn't have the strength. The darkness was calling her and she wanted to so badly give in.

The images of her family flooded her mind, she couldn't leave them like this! Rebecca couldn't stop the scream that ripped out of her throat as she hit her head on a rock.

"Shut up!" A woman's voice growled and once again she found herself flying through the air. This time she felt the hard bark of the tree hit her back. Panic and pain, rushed through her body. She couldn't feel her legs anymore!

Rebecca felt rage flood her as she looked up at a very pale, red headed woman. She stood in the moonlight, teeth barred and eyes a ruby red. 'Pale Ones'. Her Fathers voice came to her and she remembered all the tribes stories.

Rebecca laughed then, even though every part of her cried out in pain. She knew that this vampire would find her end, the warriors of her tribe would kill this beast.

"What's so funny." The monster bit out, right in front of her suddenly. "I'll give you something to laugh about, human!" Before she knew it, Rebecca was yanked up by both of her arms, feet off the ground. "Your body is broken and soon you will die!"

With one last ditch effort to save herself, Rebecca let out a scream, but no one came. Now it was the monsters turn to laugh then sinking her teeth into Rebecca's neck. Tears fell down her cheeks, her eyes looking up at the moon, wishing to see it's beauty once more before the darkness could take her.

"VICTORIA!" A voice roared, startling both of the women in the clearing. Next thing Rebecca knew was being dropped carelessly to the floor. This Victoria person running away from the voice. She felt the wind pick up around her, before she felt the gentle touch of a hand. it was so quiet.

"She's fading." Rebecca tried to look at the man who spoke, but her eyes were getting too weak to stay open. "Edward, you must be the one to save her. I haven't fed in a week..." The man on her left caressed her face, it was so cold.

"I can't Carlisle!" Edward snapped, Rebecca let out a small whimper. She didn't want to die, she didn't want to leave her Family.

"Edward! She wouldn't be here if it wasn't for us! This poor woman doesn't deserve this! Her body is broken and w-." Carlisle was cut off, by Edward.

"Okay..."Edward whispered, sounding guilty and defeated. Rebecca had no clue what was going on, but her felt herself being gently placed in someone lap. "I'm sorry,"

Rebecca gasped, as once again she felt teeth pernitrate her neck, then both of her wrist and then her ankles. Edward teeth didn't linger for more then a few seconds before moving to the next area. She really couldn't mind what he was doing because soon after the first bite she felt fire surge through her veins.

A scream tore through the clearing, for a second she thought it was someone else, but no, it was from her. Rebecca bucked in Edwards arms, feeling as if she was being burned alive.

"We need to take her to the house and then get rid of the car. We need to find out who she is..." Carlisle said in a sad tone, "And prepare for her transition." Transition into what exactly?

"To a Vampire." Edward said quietly as if to answer her question, but Rebecca could no longer focus. Her blood set ablaze and her heart pounding into her ears.

Hours before.

Edward was relieved he had managed to convince Bella to go see her Mother without him and that he didn't have to worry about her being a victim to Victoria's wrath. Alice had her vision before they left for school and was able to warn Edward. He had told Bella that he was having an issue again with his bloodlust and didn't want to be around her mother just incase she was a singer too.

Edward had also roped in Charlie to his side, even though Charlie was still miffed with him. Not that Edward blamed him. Charlie had laid the guilt trip on thick about how much her mother missed her and what was two days? Edward was the one who drove her to the airport and been the one to see her off. Bella had tried to get him to join her again. What if the plane went down or a vampire was there. Edward was exasperated with her imagination, but had quelled her worry.

Now it was nightfall and him and his family all stood quietly in the forest, the moonlight flooding through the trees, all listening, all waiting...

"There!" Alice whipped out, her and Edward already running in the red heads directions. "The wolves are out too! They're on their side." Edward was tuned into everything Alice said and saw. Damn, those filthy animals! They kept interrupting Alice's vision.

Edward let out a frustrated growl as they moved down the river, he could smell the dogs near. But Edward abandoned his annoyance as he finally caught sight of curly hair. Got you. He thought, reaching a hand out to rip the bitches head off, but she slipped through his fingers and leapt to the other side.

"She's getting away!" Rose screamed, her body a meter away from Edward. Tsk. "No she won't." He bit out, as he caught sight of the wolves.

'Embry, right! Flank out!" The alpha wolf order, taking head with a russet brown wolf. 'Jacob. Calm.' Edward watched as Jacob paced ahead, trying to bite at the red heads legs. He was quickly rewarded with a sharp kick, but he didn't fly back far. 'What did I say! Calm, Jacob! You aren't doing Bella any favors by dying!'

Edward snapped to attention as the Victoria flew back over to their side. Good. Jasper and Edward rushed forward both agreeing silently, they had to be the ones to end her. Again, once they got to close the she devil jumped sides, this time so did Emmett.

"Emmett, NO!" Rose screamed, but it was too late. The silver wolf abandoned the chase to tackle Emmett instead. No! Edward wanted to help his brother, but he knew that's what Victoria wanted. So Edward and Carlisle kept on, knowing the others could handle themselves.

She was a distance away from them, due to the distraction but he knew they could catch up. Unfortunately, he could also hear the beating of a heart right ahead and a feminine voice.

"Carlisle! There's a woman ahead and she's hurt!" He knew he'd be too late to stop Victoria's thirst. He too could feel his own, but he also had more important things to focus on.

A scream ripped out into the night and if he had a heart he knew it would sink. She was already being attacked. Edward put more effort into his steps as he came out of the forest and onto the road. He saw the car crash and the blood that littered the road. Victoria would pay for this! Edward didn't dwell long as another scream was released! He would catch her and end her if it was the last thing he would do.

When he finally caught sight of the vampire, Edward felt his mind flooded with fear and rage. Victoria had a Quileute woman in her arms as she drank from her. The poor woman was thinking of the stories her tribe had told her and the sorrow of being murdered. He wouldn't let her die, not while he still existed.

"VICTORIA!" He roared, venom leaking out the side of his mouth.

The red head looked up, quickly dropping the woman and fleeing. Coward. Defeated, he watched the woman disappeared from his grasp, but he couldn't abandon this woman. She didn't deserve to be here. This was their fault.

Edward and Carlisle sped to the young Quileute woman's side, feeling sick as they knelt down beside her. Edward wished he could tune out Carlisle of assessment of the damage done.

'Broken spine, legs, ribs, hands and arms. Internal bleeding, concussion, ruptured lungs, huge blood loss. There was some of Victoria's venom but not enough... the damages is too great.' "She's fading." Carlisle looked devastated at his diagnosis. 'If only we got here sooner... Maybe."

"Edward, you must be the one to save her. I haven't fed in a week." Edward tore his eyes away from her to stare at his Father incredulous. He has never been the one to turn another Vampire. It had always been his Father.

"I can't Carlisle!" Edward sound harsh even to his own ears, he could stop the wince. When he heard her whimper and her thoughts.

'I don't want to die. I can't leave my family...'

"Edward! She wouldn't be here if it wasn't for us! This poor woman doesn't deserve this! Her body is broken and w-." Carlisle sounded stern, but before he could finish, Edward had already made up his mind.

"Okay..."Edward said softly, as he gently placed her in his lap. "I'm sorry," Edward whispered, his mouth opening over her neck where Victoria bit her first. The taste of ambrosia filled his mouth, but Edward ignored it. He knew his Father was there and that he had this soul to save. He pulled away and went to her wrist and bit both. Pushing in as much venom as he could. Then he adjusted her so he could bite both of her ankles.

Edward held to her as her body began to fight him, his venom already affecting her. Her cries pained him, but it was necessary in order to save her.

This whole time, he heard his Fathers encouragement, his pride and his love as finally Edward pulled away to look at him.

"We need to take her to the house and then get rid of the car. We need to find out who she is..." Carlisle said in a sad tone, "And prepare for her transition."

Transition into what exactly? Edward looked down at the woman, she had long straight black hair that reached her hips, a narrow nose and high cheek bones that complimented her heart shaped face. Her red lips plump and parted, making soft moans of pain. She was probably about 22 or 23? She was beautiful, her features rare and unique. She would rival Rosalie for sure. Edward sighed sadly, tucking her in his arms as he began to speed off to the house.

"To a Vampire."
