Chapter 2

Way Out There

Edward was lost in his mind as he raced to his families house, still holding the writhing body close. Carlisle was right behind him, guarding his back just incase the red head was dumb enough to attack. He wasn't aware of him humming, 'Somewhere Far Away', by Justus Rumenapp. Until he heard Carlisle's surprise question, which caused him in turn to go silent. However, as soon as the woman cried out, Edward couldn't help but comfort her.

She was on fire and he knew it. A part of him felt massively guilty, but knew he wouldn't take it back. They had finally reached the house and Edward allowed his Father to pass him, so he could open the door. In a blink of an eye, Edward found himself in his room and laid her on the new bed he had bought for Bella.

'Are you sure you want to put her there?' Carlisle thought, following him in the room. Edward said nothing, what could he say? 'So, Yes?'

Edward shot his Father an annoyed look before moving his eyes back to the writhing body before him. Her hands clawing at the sheets, back bowing up in desperation. He felt so helpless beside her. He hated it. Ever since meeting Bella, Edward had grown accustom to feeling helpless, but this was different in some ways. He was the one who ultimately caused her great pain. It was his fault that all this had happened in the first place. If only he had left Bella alone, then again, she would've died by Tyler's truck and he would've never let her die in such a way.

Letting out another frustrated growl, Edward ran a hand through his hair, causing it to become more tousled. He looked away from her sobbing form and around his room. Books and cd's, were all cluttered around, his walls white with built in bookshelves and w white couch by the window. A king sized bed taking up most of the room, but the windows always gave the impression that his room was larger. Especially the door that opened out into the forest.

Making up his mind, he moved over to where the couch sat and pulled it over to the bed so he can sit next to her. It would've been inappropriate to sit down next to her on the bed. Also chose to ignore his Fathers curiosity and taking up the woman's hand, hoping his cold hand can bring her peace in the flames. She responded by clutching his hand, ripping at it really but he didn't mind.

He hadn't realized. he had reached up and moved a stray hair away from her face, but here he was. Edward didn't know why he was so, so kind to a random stranger, if he had a guess, it would be because she would now be family. They couldn't leave a newborn all by herself, not only was it illegal, but she was now his responsibility, he was the one who changed her. Even if she had a little bit of Victoria's venom, it was his venom that ran through her veins and changed her.

His attention was drawn away form the Quileute woman, as he began hearing his siblings and mother's thoughts. His focus though was mainly on Alice, trying to speed up the processes of what this woman would look like and her identity, but was surprised to see Alice had nothing. There were glimpses here and there, but nothing concrete. Edward was about to pull away when she screamed at his movement. So Edward sat, shushing her as he soothed her hair. She calmed, her cries turning into soft whimpers.

The air shifted around him as his siblings and mother joined him.

'Poor dear...' Esme's soft whisper, fluttered in his mind. Gold eyes watched her move to the other side and take her new daughters hand. Already accepting the newborn as her family.

'Great. Another addition to the Family... though this wasn't her choice.' Rosalie thought roughly, but there was no malice in her thoughts, her sorrow for the young woman, softening the usually standoff vampire.

'Newborn again, fuck! Now I'm going to have a few new bite marks.' Jasper's mind already flashing back to all his earlier days as a vampire in the southern wars. He was already thinking of ways he could better train this newborn and how he didn't want her to suffer like the others had in his care.

'I gotta fight her when she wakes up!' Edward wasn't surprised to hear that Emmett was already planning on fighting this woman once she woke up. Edward hoped she'd rip his arms off and throw them in the ocean. He was still properly pissed at his brothers recklessness during the chase.

He looked around, trying to find Alice, shocked that he hadn't heard her yet. Edward finally spotted her at the door way, her mouth slightly pouting. Ah, he knew what she was upset about. Edward too, was a bit dismayed at not seeing any of this woman's future.

'Its like the wolves, but not, I think she's going to have a few run ins with the wolves... We should make sure we keep her safe. I don't know what they would do if they found out we have a newborn.' Alice thought in a panic, not wanting the wolves to touch their newest family member. Edwards was in agreement, feeling his eyes narrow dangerously. All of the sudden, he felt a wave of calm surround him.

Edward gave Jasper an irritated glance, not liking being manipulated. Jasper didn't seem to care as he snapped at Edward. 'You're causing her distress. Cut the shit.' Edwards eyes moved back to the woman, who did look distressed at his temper. He let Jasper's influence seep through him, knowing that this was for the good.

There was a buzzing noise from across the room, on Edwards book shelf. Not being able to move away, Edward watched Alice reach for his phone and moving out the room. He knew who it was.

Bella.

In all this chaos, Edward forgot about her. He had promised to call her tonight, but he couldn't separate himself, nor did he want too. This woman needed him more.

"Someone needs to go to the crash site and-" Edward began, his thumb moving over her russet colored skin oh her trembling hand.

"Already did. Everything was taken care of, but unfortunately, her id or phone was in the car." Jasper said, moving over to sit next to him. He already planned to stay the whole time with him and the newborn. "We managed to find all of it where you found her, but phone was broken and all her stuff torn apart from the attack. Though I am already have Jenks on the trail, he's looking up where she rented the vehicle from." He finished in a short breath, taking on some of this woman's pain. "The rain should wash away everything and the car was already moved off the bridge and into the ocean."

Edward was grateful to his family, he shouldn't have even been surprised to hear that they had already taken care of everything. He moved his focus back on the woman, while also listening to the phone call outside

Alice was at the back of the house, moving a bit away from the house so Bella couldn't hear the cries of the woman in Edward's room. She took a seat at a gazebo, Emmett had recently put up for Rose.

"Bella! How are you! How's your mom? Is Jacksonville nice and sunny? Getting a tan?" Alice said in her usual bubbly voice, not letting any of her worry out.

"Oh- uh, hi, Alice. I'm fine, moms fine. Yes and no, I'm staying in the shade. Where's Edward?" Bella finished, sounding a bit put out that Alice was the one who answered. "Edward said he would call?"

"Oh, what's wrong with talking to me? Do you not want to talk to me." Alice whined and almost laughed at Bella's huff.

"Alice." Bella warned.

"He's out with Jasper hunting tonight. Had a run in with a couple hiking. The wife fell and scrapped her knee." Alice lied easily, her legs swinging back and forth.

"I hope Jaspers okay. Well tell him to call me tomorrow. Bye Alice." Alice said her goodbye and hung up. She sighed, a hand going up to her forehead. Her gold eyes trying to see the newborns future. She caught sight of the woman running through the forest and her turning her golden gaze around to smile mischievously at the one chasing her. 'Rebecca!' Alice gasped, recognizing her brothers voice.

Alice flashed to her brothers outdoor balcony, moving swiftly inside and met her brothers gaze.

"Her names Rebecca." Specking aloud to her husband and family. "She will be apart of our family."

Edward was happy, yet astonished at the vision he saw in Alice's mind. He would apparently have a close relationship to the newborn, Rebecca. Edward wasn't upset at the idea, happy even, that means she would stay with them, by the looks of her gold irises.

The rest of his family was happy with their new family member, Rose not so much, but she wasn't opposed to Rebecca. Rose would just get used to her eventually. His parents smiled, Carlisle moving next to Esme and reaching down to smooth Rebecca's long hair. She seemed to move less anxiously, what Jasper was doing seemed to help her calmed down.

He didn't say anything as each member began to take their leave, knowing they'd be in and out of the room checking on her and then finally coming back for her awakening.

Edward would have to leave eventually as well, to call Bella. For now, he would stay.

Only Jasper and Alice stayed, Alice moving to sit next to Rebecca on the bed. Her hand slipping into her unoccupied hand and humming.

"Hi, Rebecca, my name is Alice. We're going to be best friends and great sisters, Rebecca! I'll have to get you all changed and out of these torn clothes, once you time is almost done." Alice spoke softly, toning down her excitement. Not wanting to bother Rebecca too much.

He heard a few snippets from Rebecca, mainly radiating pain, who she was, and being on fire. Edward knew this pain would be unavoidable and Jasper was taking on as much as he could, but of course, he could only do so much. He knew all of his family members all remembered this torture and all hoped the days would pass by quickly.

Edward leaned forward and started to talk to her, might as well start building that connection.

"Your name is Rebecca and you have to remember as much as you can about your passed life." He watched for any response and was elated to see her twitch. "I can hear you. I know you can't speak, at the moment, but I can hear your thoughts." He waited.

'Burns... Burns so much. It... hurts...' A small voice answered him, unsure.

"I'm sorry, but the fire won't burn forever and you're not alone. We will be here when you wake up." Edward squeezed her hand in his and stayed like that. His siblings and him talking to her through the night.

She was on fire.

She was in hell, burning alive.

Her body writhed in agony, wanting nothing, but peace.

Voices were all around her, yet she was alone.

Until she felt a cool hand wrap around hers and she clung to it and then another one soon joined her free one. She rejoiced, she wasn't alone. Not long after a feeling of peace slip over her, like a warm blanket, making the fire burn a little less brightly.

Loving the cold touch of their hands, she tried to listen to their voices, but the flames were very distracting.

"Her names Rebecca." She was finally able to catch a piece. "She will be apart of our family." Family? Hers? She didn't have any family... or did she? She couldn't recall, the flames burned all of what and who she is. The fire took over again, but the cold hands never left hers, but too soon one pulled away. However the other stayed.

Her name was Rebecca? Interesting. Rebecca trembled as another wave of flames hit, her hand gripping the hand that held her tightly. Another hand covered her free one again, the hand felt small like hers.

"Hi, Rebecca, my name is Alice..." Rebecca tried but failed to hear the rest, her heart beat pumping, like a drum in her ears.

"Your name is Rebecca and you have to remember as much as you can about your life." She heard a familiar voice speak to her. It was him... "I can hear you. I know you can't speak, at the moment, but I can hear your thoughts."

'Burns... Burns so much. It... hurts...' She wasn't sure if he could hear her, but she let out as much as she could.

"I'm sorry, but the fire won't burn forever and you're not alone. We will be here when you wake up." She felt another wave of serenity hit her and chasing back the flames. She was grateful to her... family.

After hanging up the phone, Bella laid back in her bedroom in her mom and Phil's house. The walls were painted in a light blue and decorated a boho style, that she knew her mom loved. Bella was relieved that the ac was set at a low 70's, she didn't know how her mom put up with the humidity of Florida. She really did wish she insisted on Edward going with her, he'd be able to keep her cold.

Bella tossed over to her side table and grab her phone again, she knew Edward didn't have his phone on him. But it still didn't hurt to send out a text. She'd try again tomorrow, hoping he and Jasper were back from hunting. She really missed him around her.

'I love you, Edward. Call me as soon as you get this.' She looked at her text for a few minutes, hoping that she'd get any response, but it wasn't to be. Sighing, she set her phone down again and tried to get some sleep. Regretting having come here in the first place.
