Elijah Mikaleson couldn't believe what Celesate had told him about Castiel, being tortured for infomation while under a spell, but right now his concern is for his siblings, he had met Celeste in France after his angel had been taken away from him, his vessels eyes burnt out. He had tried to get him a new vessel but he would never come into it.

He could hear Rebekah talking and figure she is talking to Marcle, but he stayed in front of Niklaus, stopping him from going rageful.

"You've been at this for hours, to what end? Niklaus, I know you and I grew up fighting you. I can't be beaten nor can I be persuaded. You cannot get past me." Elijah says to his brother.

They may be half brothers but they are still brothers, Elijah has never held that against him and he wish Niklaus didn't either but he had found out that Rebekeah had summon their father, Mikale to them when they were staying in New Orleans but…sometimes he wonders if the angels had something to do with it as well, to keep him out of it so Castiel couldn't return to him.

"I could get past you although it might have to be over your dead body. Do say hello to Castiel for me."

His heart broke in pieces at the reminder of Castiel, despite every new relationship he has had in order to move on from Cas, he could never forget him, even to this very day. Elijah still loves him.

"You did stab me with that blade, forcing me to endure hours of unspeakable pain. Perhaps I should direct my rage toward you." Niklaus said, pointing the oak at him.

The same very oak that could actually kill him if he attempts to stab him with it and Elijah does not plan to reunite with Castiel in the afterlife so soon.

"You should see yourself. The murderous expression, the self-righteous posturing. You look like Father." Elijah said.

He looks shocked, hurt even. But it has the effect he had hoped for, he lowers the oak and opens his mouth but no words come out so he stares at him for a few minutes.

"I'm not him." he says in a soft voice. "Rebekah's betrayal justifies my anger. He was that of a madman. You were never the recipient of his cruelty! None of you were, not Kol, not Finn, none of you!"

Elijah stands there, not saying anything. Better to let Niklaus rant on and on about it until it's out of his system.

"I think you've forgotten what he was truly like." Niklaus said.

"No, I have not forgotten." he said.

His mind went to when he had tried to show Niklaus how to hunt and their father had caught him, verbally attacking Niklaus for his miss when he had tried shooting the deer. But he had never told anyone how his father had found out that he was seeing Castiel and beat him where they couldn't see the bruises.

He lied and promised he would never meet with Castiel ever again. He had been so happy when Castiel had returned his feelings towards him but he is gone now.

"Niklaus, I understand your anger but I implore you, be better than him. Do what he could not. Demonstrate the grace of mercy rather than this petty cruelty." Elijah said to him.

"You ask me to show mercy to one who has wronged me. You really don't know me at all, do you, brother?" Niklaus asked him.

"Do you know…that night…" Elijah said.

Niklaus crocks his head, his cold look never wavering from his face. But it is enough for him to pause.

"That night, I was going to try again. Call Castiel, I had found a perfect vessel who had said yes because he was dying. But then father came and saw the vessel." he said.

His mind goes back to that night to when he had the spell to call his angel, a perfect vessel for him, he was ready to say the words when his father had appeared in the room, telling him to stop talking to Castiel and to kill Niklaus, he said no both times.

So his father knocked him out and slit the vessel's throat so Cas couldn't use it and he had burnt the spell so he couldn't call out to him.

"You didn't tell any of us that, Elijah." Niklaus said.

"I wasn't sure if the spell would even work but I took the chance and I lost it as well as him." ELijah said. "I'm still not even sure if I'll ever see Cas again."

"But it's not you, who had found out about this betrayal, Elijah! Tell me," he said. "Tell me if the angels that took your angel were standing in front of you at this very moment, would you grant them mercy? Would you let them live despite whatever they had done to blue eyes?"

He had forgotten that Niklaus used to call Castiel that due to his blue eyes and innocent nature.

Elijah opens his mouth to tell him that it would be up to Castiel, but he doesn't get the chance.

"Enough."

Elijah turns around to see Rebekah coming to them, no fear in her eyes despite that she must be feeling it.

"Whatever I have done wrong, my guilt is nothing compared to yours. You want revenge? Fine. But before you have it, I will look you in the eye and tell you why it was your cruelty and your spite that led us to this." Rebekah told him. "Don't bring Cassie into this."

"Well, go on, then," he said. "Speak your piece, and when you are finished, I will grant you the punishment you deserve….even if I have to go through Elijah to do so."

Elijah looks at him. Why must his brother be so stubborn?

He climbs up onto a tombstone, bending down, clutching the oak in his hand.

"Let it begin! The trial of Rebekah Mikaleson." Niklaus said out loud as if he was a judge.

"What a relief. His ego is in check." Rebekah said in a sastrict voice.

Elijah looks down for a moment then back up to Niklaus. "Just speak your truth. I'll make certain he behaves himself."

He sits down, watching Niklaus closely so he does not try to murder their sister.

"You stand accused of betraying your own blood. How do you plead?" Niklaus said loudly.

"I plead you to shut up and listen." Rebekah said, annoyed.

"You summoned our father, you brought him to our home, ruining Elijah's chance to be with his wayward angel. What possible defense could you have?" said Niklaus.

"I knew he was the only thing that you feared and I wanted you to run," said Rebekah.

Elijah's heart broke again as he thought about that night, even afterwards and more recently, he had prayed to Castiel but his prayers went unanswered.

Sometimes he thinks that Cas just had been a dream but he knows Castiel wasn't some made up thing, he was real.

"Because you hated me." Niklaus said.

"Because you were hateful. You denied me the freedom to love." Rebekah said to him.

"Oh, so that's your defense? You called Mikael, the destroyer, the hunter of vampires because I detained you from pusing some dull suitors." said Niklaus.

"You were cruel, controlling and manipulative." Rebekah said to him.

"I was trying to protect you from imbeciles and leeches, not to mention your own poor judgment."

"And what about the one that you loved enough to call a friend. Why did you forbid me to love Marcel?" she said to him.

He stands up, pointing at her with anger in his eyes once again. "Do not mention his name."

"What has happened to you? I remember the sweet boy who made me laugh and gave me gifts. Who loved art and music. I wanted to be just like you. How could you have fallen so far?" Rebekah said.

Elijah got up to stand with Rebekeah, agreeing with her on this one. Niklaus has changed so much, fallen so deep that sometimes none of them can recognise him.

"You say you despise Rebekah for her betrayal and yet, no one had stood by your side for so long, not even I myself. Perhaps it's you that's forgotten. What do you think Castiel would say if he were here at this moment?" he asked.

Of course he doesn't get an answer so he will tell him. "Castiel would tell you, she is your family, forgive her, I would not ask you to forget but to forgive her. The past is in the past, just as much as the angels are part of my own past. Do not let your father rule you through your actions nor emotions."

Elijah saw a far away look on his face and knew he was thinking about when Rebekah saved him, so he will keep speaking until he calms down.

"I remember the day that Father caught you whittling little chess pieces with his hunting knife. He beat you so mercilessly and for so long. I actually feared for your life" he said.

He remembers going in there, trying to stop him from beating Niklaus to death but their father had just pushed him away as if he still had been a boy.

"So you would paint her as a loyal sister but she betrayed me out of lust for Marcel. Perhaps that's why you did it. For love. Perhaps I might temper my rage if Rebekah will admit she was a victim of her own idiocy, that her great love Marcel used her to oust this family and to take my city!" Niklaus raged.

"Marcel did not manipulate me."

"You defend him and yet you can't help but wonder, what if I'm right?" Niklaus said.

Elijah turns around, keeping an eye out for any witch. But yet…something feels odd, like someone is looking for him.

"We loved each other. It was your refusal to respect that led to your ruin." she said.

"Then why didn't he chase after you when you fled New Orleans? Oh, yes! That's right! He was here stealing what I built." Niklaus rants.

"Do you want me to renounce Marcel, to beg for your forgiveness? I won't. Marcel is not at fault. I called Mikael." Rebekah said to him.

ELijah decides to try to interfere with them before Rebekah pushes the wrong buttons.

"Rebekah, you must-"

"I was the one who brought him to New Orleans because of your wickedness!" she shouted. "I wanted love and happiness and you denied me the freedom to have either. Yes, I hated and I was afraid of our father but he was a lesser evil than you. My bastard brother who loomed over me, threatening me as you are now. I wanted to get rid of you and given the choice, I'd do it again."

Niklaus jumps, grabs her and puts her to a tombstone, raising the oak high until Elijah grabs him, pushes him away from Rebekah.

He finally got the oak from Niklaus, leaving him weaponless.

"Sister, leave us." Elijah said, watching Niklaus carefully.

"I'm not going-"

"I said, leave us, please." he said again.

Once she is gone, he can speak his piece now.

"You wouldn't listen to her. So now you must deal with me." he said, raising both of his hands.

"So. What's it gonna be? You hold both weapons. Tunde's blade would put me down but the stake could finish me off for good." Niklaus said.

He looks down to it but he will never kill his brother, half or blood. Never.

"Well, unlike you, brother. I have no taste for fratricide." he said, rising Tunde's blade. "I only hold this to keep it from you. This is just my insurance."

"Why must you defend her? Rebekah betrayed you as well when she brought Mikael here. If not for her, Castiel would been with you all of your immortal days." Niklaus said.

"Because she is our sister and because I like to remember her the way she was before we became what we became." he told his brother. "She was an innocent girl, quick to laugh and full of life. And I believe that Castiel is still out there, looking for me, praying that we will be together again."

He looks down and back at him. "My memories serve to make her betrayal more painful."

"Can you not then accept some small part of the blame?" Elijah asked him.

Niklaus scoffed in disbelief looking away.

"After all, Niklaus, it was your cruelty that led her to do what she did. It's like you said, I never told any of you of my plans to bring Castiel back to me, to us. IF she had, perhaps she wouldn't had done it." Elijah said to him.

"Do you not see, Elijah? She didn't mean to chase me off. She wanted me dead." Niklaus said to him.

"You're wrong." Elijah said shaking his head sadly.

"She has always hated me, you know that's true." he said pointing at him.

"You have no idea, do you? You have no idea what she was prepared to do for you." Elijah said.

HE knows it's time to tell Niklaus about what Rebekah had tried to do to their father before they left, before he had found Castiel injured and half naked in the woods, broken and afarid of his own angelic family until Elijah gave him a new one.

"When our sister sees something that she perceives to be an injustice, she can be stubborn, impetuous and, at times, downright dangerous. And never was this more apparent than the night she tried to kill our father." Elijah said to him.

"What is this? Some melodramatic fiction designed to garner my sympathy?" Niklaus asked him. "That was the night you brought Castiel home."

"It is the truth. I was there and she would have done it. All to protect you, had I not stopped her. I often wished that I could revisit that moment, complete the task myself." Elijah said to him. "Then perhaps… Castiel would be here with me at this very moment if I had. Because sometimes I wonder if the angels found Castiel, because they found out through our father and tracked us instead of him."

Niklaus looks confused. "Why are you telling me this now?" he asked angrily.

"Niklaus, sometimes our sister acts without thinking. She's short of temper, she quick to fall in love but she loves you. But your malicious treatment has broken her heart. So, yes, she responded by summoning our father. Yes, that was a mistake, I'm not entirely sure that I can blame her." Elijah told him.

Niklaus turns around with a murderous expression on his face. "I can."

He runs but Elijah blocks his way, raising the blade and the oak a bit, not wanting to do this again.

"Niklaus, so help me-"

"Are you really going to stand against me?" he asked. "And not with that pathetic blade. You'd just have to pull it out someday and then I'd hate you as I do her now. If you want to protect Rebekah, you'll need to use the white oak stake."

Elijah walks closer as Niklaus walks forwards him, he will protect Rebekah just as he should've done with Castiel.

"I don't have to listen to this nonsense." Elijah said.

"No, don't pretend you haven't thought about it. You look at me and you see everything you abhor in yourself. Sure, you dress it up with your fancy suits and your handkerchiefs. You, with your mask of civility and eloquence, you're every bit the abomination I am or worse." Niklaus said. "You can hide your own pain of Castiel after he was dragged back to Heaven to be punished or whatever else they had done to him, but you cling to the idea of him returning to our kind. Go on, Elijah. Go on. Use that write oak strake"

Elijah just throws it away while never taking his eyes off him. He will not do it.

"I'm not so cowardly that I have to kill you, Niklaus. But If I have to make you suffer to protect Rebekah, that is what I will do." Elijah said.

Niklaus starts to laugh a bit like he finds it amusing. "You see? I knew you couldn't do it. You still cling to the hope that I can be redeemed and if the bastard can be saved, then maybe there's hope for you. And you cling to that as much you cling to the hope that the angel of Thursday will return to you and you'll live happily ever after." Niklaus said.

Elijah looks away then he gasps as Niklaus forces the oak into him, he gasps with pain.

"Now you know how it feels."

He could feel the blade going into him and everything went dark, having no idea that it would do the same to Castiel.

When he comes to later, he shudders as the pain is finally gone.

"Now we're even." Niklaus said.

HE took deep shudder breaths, as he tried to understand what had happened, he saw Castiel in a new vessel. But… he had been different, a blank look in his eyes, it had kept going on until he had to ask for help.

He had heard the news that a man in a trench coat had killed a poacher in a church. Why did he never realize that it had been Castiel?

Then he saw more, flashes of his life, he had been tortured by other angels mupilte times, his grace cut out forcely and killed mupitle times. And he had not been there to protect him from any of it when he needed him the most.

He knows what he has to do now, in order to find him and protect him.

He gets up, finds Rebekah at the hospital that she had been forced to watch the memory of when they lost New Orleans. They talked about Niklaus for a few minutes, she finally sees what he sees now. That their brother they once knew is just buried deep down inside of himself.

"I hope you find Castiel, Eli. Say hi to him for me."

"I will." he agreed.

Elijah then leaves and heads to their home, the real home where Hayley and Castiel can be protected and live comfortably.

He throws Marcel into a wall and his vampires look at Elijah in shock, like they couldn't believe the noble one had done that.

"Good evening. I trust I need no introduction. After all, this was once my family home. Tonight, I'm taking it back. Your privileges here have been revoked. Marcellus, out of respect for my sister, I will grant you this one mercy. I will allow you to keep your life. However, you're hereby exiled." said Elijah.

He then turns around. "If I so much as find a trace of you in the French Quarter, it will not end well for you. Do you understand?" he said to him.

Then he turns to the rest of them, let them go back to their homes, rest and tomorrow, he'll send a few vampires to look for his angel.

"That is all. Run along." he said.

One by one they leave, Elijah watches Marcellus leave the compound for good. He looks up at Niklaus.

"Nicely done, brother. You're beginning to sound like me, I'm impressed." he said and then went into his room.

Elijah wonders if he had done right by what he did. But what's done is done.

Now all he can do is focus on bringing everyone together to work together for peace and for him to reunite with Castiel.
