Elijah watches as Castiel slumbers, his chest rising and falling gently. He was surprised after all the crazy from last night, that Castiel never woke up. It's been a night and nearly a day and his angel still slumbers undisturbed.
He had to kill Thierry, Marcel's friend because of what had happened at the party.
He takes Castiel's hand and strokes it gently, bringing it up to his lips. He wanted nothing more than for him to wake up, to even open his eyes to let him know that he is okay.
"Cas…" he said, stroking his forehead now.
He actually considered bringing a doctor in to explain his mate's cosasate state.
"Cas, please wake up. It's okay, I promise." he said.
But he never opened his eyes, he sighed and left the room to get a drink. That is when he heard Niklaus in the library, no doubt looking for their mother's grimoire.
He goes in with his drink in hand.
"Can I help you find something?" Elijah asked him.
"Yes, in fact, I believe you can." Niklaus said.
He looks over the bookshelf again, but Elijah knows he won't find it since he has hidden it well.
"I'm looking for a book, about yea big, filled with our mother's most powerful spells." he said, taking books off the self. "It appears to be misplaced."
"How very mysterious."
"Indeed." agreed Niklaus as he sat down at the desk. "At first, I feared the witches had succeeded in their efforts to obtain it, but considering their last attempt ended with me relieving a rather large, tattooed gentleman of his hands, I began to wonder if the thief wasn't a bit closer to home."
Elijah looks at him but says nothing as he writes some things down, he could hear him sighing. But he kept his super hearing out for Castiel just in case he woke up.
"Don't make this harder than it needs to be, brother." Niklaus said.
"Well, admittedly, I did have a theory that your sudden interest in mother's grimoire was in some way related to whatever foolishness you've been conducting with the Crescent wolves. Therefore, I took it upon myself to carefully place it where naughty little fingers could not pry." Elijah told him.
"And I thought, of all people, would understand, I am simply trying to help those wolves. Play Samaritan to the abused, champion to the underdog, so to speak." Niklaus said, smirking.
"How splendidly noble of you." he said sastrictly.
"Have you ever considered that, like you, I am trying to keep Hayley safe, using our mother's magic to empower her people so they are capable of protecting her?" Niklaus said.
He stands up, he needs to check on Castiel again, he could wake any day now.
"Yes, unless, of course, they decide to seek retribution for decades held in exile." he said, pushing drawers in. "And Hayley will find herself in the middle of an uprising. One that will only provoke further violence."
He picks some books up while still talking to him. "You see, you risk turning New Orleans into a war zone, brother. I won't let that happen."
"The drums of war were beating long before we returned. I suggest you use a little less of this and a little more of these." Niklaus said.
Then a blood curling scream comes from upstairs as if someone was being tortured, Elijah didn't waste anytime standing there in shock and runs up the stairs.
He goes into the room to see Castiel screaming and trashing in the bed from whatever nightmare is terrorizing him enough to make him scream.
"MERCY! BROTHER, please!" he screamed.
It sound as if he was getting tortured by someone, he goes over to him to see that he has sweat on his face mixed with tears. He places a hand on his shoulder and shakes him gently.
"Castiel, wake up. You're having a nightmare." he said. "I'm here, angel."
He did this repeatedly until Castiel opened his eyes and he was relieved to see him awake at last.
Castiel sits up, looking around confused and scared so Elijah pulls him for a hug.
"Eli?"
"I'm here," he said.
But the reaction he was expecting doesn't come, in fact, Castiel seems to have a worse reaction and it scares Elijah.
"No, no, no. You shouldn't be here. Erfam…" he said.
"Casi?" he asked, using his other nickname for him.
"NO, you need to go before they return! I can't-!"
Elijah watches as Castiel falls off the bed and backs into the wall, hyperventilating again, going into another panic attack.
What have the angels done to Castiel? How was he going to calm him down from these episodes?
He knelt down, keeping his distance but keeping sure he was close enough to him.
"Castiel…where are we?" he asked.
"Don't come near, I'm…" he said. "Dangerous.
"No, you're not dangerous." Elijah said. "Why do you think that?"
Maybe if he talks to him normally instead of finding out where he thinks he is, maybe he can get him to come out of whatever memory he thinks he is in.
"Spell," he said, gasping. "It'll make me kill you."
"Castiel…what am i?" he asked.
If he has to remind him what kind of vampire he is, maybe that would help as well.
"Original."
"I can't be killed, remember?" he said gently.
"But…Rowena is…a powerful witch." he said
"Perhaps. Casi, I need you to focus. Where are we?" he asked.
"I'm not sure, they brought me in after I asked for help," he said.
So the angels had tortured Castiel after he had ask for help? Only a true monster would do that. He'll have to get the full story out of him later when he's calmer.
"Some kind of…abandoned factory…I think," he said.
"Castiel, believe me when I say you're not in an abandon factory getting tortured, you're in New Orleans. You're safe." Elijah said.
He stopped rocking as he had been doing, looking around.
"You are having a panic attack, Casi. You need to breathe before you pass out again." he said gently.
He sits besides him, not sure what to do now. "Can I hold you, Casi?"
Castiel nods so Elijah pulls him in for a hug, trying to get him to slow down his breathing. Now Elijah may not need to breathe but he did so.
"Can you feel my breath, Casi? Let your breath out, then take a breath in, and out again slowly." he said.
Soon Castiel came out of his panic attack. The angel and original just sat there in silence.
"Castiel…" Elijah said.
"Hmm?"
"What has happened to you?" he asked.
Castiel stiffens at the question, Elijah worried that he was going to end up in another panic attack.
"It's a long story," he said.
"Casi, I almost had a doctor come up to see you, I didn't know what to do to help you." he said as he stroked the back of his head.
"I…"
"Just tell me. Elijah said. "Whatever has happened to you, it won't make me love you less. I'll help you through this."
Castiel sighed, rubbing his hand up and down his knee like it would comfort him.
"After…Uriel and Raphael had forced me back to heaven, an angel named Naomi had brainwashed me and made me forget you. She has done this many times before. Even during the plagues of Egypt."
Elijah clenched his jaw in anger, the idea of someone doing that to his angel was enough to send him over the edge.
"After I pulled Dean Winchester from hell, he taught me free will and how to feel again. We tried to avent Lucifer from rising but some weeks before he did raise from the cage…" Castiel said.
He took heavy breaths as he obviously tried to gather the courage to tell him. Elijah squeezed his hand to calm him down.
"After the angels found out that I was about to tell Dean about…the final seal was, they did the same thing to me when they took me away from you, force me out of my body, tortured me and sent me back to Naomi. She didn't take too much but only enough to make me the perfect soldier again."
Elijah's jaw clutches angrily, but he doesn't ask anything. Sooner he can get it out the better, he can ask his questions later.
"When Dean convinced me to do the right thing, I took him to his brother, Sam. I then teleported back to Chuck's house, but Raphael killed me." he said.
"Cas-"
"No, I'm not finished yet, Eli." he said.
He smile, only Castiel has been the one to give him that nickname and he has missed it.
"God brought me back and I shielded the Winchesters from all angles and then I went looking for God. When…I found out he had been missing and gave up on us, I continued to help Dean and Sam to stop Lucifer, I even found out Gabriel was alive but of course, he had to hide that and sent me away so Dean and Sam couldn't find out, but they figured it out. I died again after I moletv Michael." he said.
He had a slight smile on his lips about it. What did Cas do?
"Casi, what did you do?" asked Elijah amusely.
"I might've called him an assbutt." he admitted sheepishly.
He laughed, only Castiel can do that. "You should tell Niklaus that one. He'll love to use it at some point."
"Perhaps I will." he said.
But then his smile goes away and there is a haunting look in his blue eyes with guilt.
"Casi…"
"After Sam jumped into the hole with Lucifer dragging Michael with him, I returned to Heaven. Of course, Raphael had to see me. Told me to bend the knee to him, give my loyalty to him so he can start the apocalypse again in his image. Of course I said no. He beat me…." he said.
"Casi…" he said.
"And he raped me just for good measure. But even then, I still refuse to bend the knee. I went to war with him. And I search for a way to fight him, with the help of my friend, Batlthazar, to find a way to open the doors to Purgatory. I tried to do this behind Sam and Dean's back. They did find out. Let's just say they were not happy with me," he said.
"Casi, did you tell them exactly what had happened with Raphael? Or did you leave out that he had hurt you?" Elijah asked.
Castiel winces, so that means he didn't. Elijah sighed but said nothing.
"Maybe that would've made a difference back then. But I didn't say a thing to them about it, I didn't want them to think that I was weak." Castiel said.
Elijah was surprised he just said that, he didn't think that Castiel would actually tell why he didn't tell his friends.
"Casi. If they're your true friends, then they would've understand why you were getting desperate." he said, comfortingly.
"Perhaps. But what is done is done, Eli." he said, waving it off.
Elijah sighed. "Keep going, Casi." he encouraged him.
"I opened the door and took in the souls and killed Raphael…" he said.
He was leaving something out on purpose.
"Something else happened before that, didn't it? Tell me, Casi. I'm sure it's okay." he said.
Castiel shakes his head, guilt in his eyes as a tear falls from his face. He wraps an arm around his angel's shoulder, giving it a light squeeze.
"I killed him, Balthazar." he said. "I was just scared, I didn't mean to. I… guess I was getting obsessed with power otherwise I wouldn't have done it."
He nods. Sometimes having power doesn't always mean a good thing. Power can be corrupted.
"It's okay if you can't do anymore for today. You've been through so much, my love." he said.
"Let me finish this one." he said.
Elijah sighs but nods. He then has to check in with a few things today anyway and Castiel needs his rest.
"I didn't put the power back in, I threatened Dean and Sam. proclaim myself to be their New God. I killed so many angels, Eli." he said. "I will never forgive myself for that."
Elijah brings him into another hug as Castiel cries silently into his shoulder, wondering what he can do to help his mate. But truthly?
He is not sure what more he can do for him. All he can do is be there for him and help him through his recovery.
