I wanted to try a new story, enjoy
NO POV
"Interesting."
Sitting on a stump in the middle of the forest was a tall thin man, he had enough muscle tone to be distinguished from just a simple traveler but his body was by no means bulky, his skin was a pale lavender color trending more towards white, it was just off tone enough to distinguish him from being a simple human, his hair, an equally purple color, was straight and thin, framing his face in a clean chin length cut. He was wearing a white shirt with no sleeves and his pants were baggy but equally ivory in color, the strangest thing though was that his arms were wrapped in chains from palms to near his elbows.
"YAAAWWN~" he let out a loud yawn as he turned a page in his book "You know I came to this forest cause Veldora was sealed here and I figured that would keep this place peaceful while I did more research and reading, but suddenly the other day he just up and vanished, how interesting, maybe I'll make that my next point of inquiry? Anyway, if you're done listening to me talk to myself…"
The man closed the book and looked over at a few goblins.
"You're from that village not far from here, what is it you need?" he then paused "Are you guys taller, well now this is certainly something else."
"You're the Majin right, the one who came to this forest." One of the Goblins said "You've always been kind so…please help."
"What's the problem?" he asked.
They explained that a slime had come to their village and helped them protect it after which he named them and passed out, that was two days ago.
"Named by a slime?" the man thought "Well this I have to see."
"Alright this seems fun." The man grabbed his bag and followed them "Lead the way."
The man followed them back to their small village, he quickly noticed that many of the Goblins were more human like, taller and more muscular.
"They've evolved…" he thought curiously.
They showed him to a tent where inside there was indeed a slime resting.
"A state of hibernation." He looked at the creature "Indeed it's magic is low but recovering, it named this whole village and only managed to pass out, how did it manage such a thing?"
"Is Lord Rimuru going to be, okay?" the largest of those Goblins, Rigurd, asked.
"Oh yeah they'll be fine once they recover their Magicules a bit more." He waved them off "Should be another day or so, maybe I'll stay here and wait, this little fellow seems interesting."
The man stayed there for another day until finally the slime awoke and introduced itself to him as Rimuru Tempest.
"So, who are you?"
"Just a wandering Majin." He said "I've been hanging out in this forest for a few years now, reading, researching new spells and the like, the Goblins came to me when you went into your hibernating state because they were worried about you."
"What should I call you?" Rimuru asked
"My name is Cryer." He smiled.
Cryer's POV
"You know Cryer you don't have to stay here." Rimuru said.
Rimuru had just taken over as head of this village and was going to help them build it up, they even managed to establish basic rules of cooperation and not harming humans.
"No, I think I'll stay for a bit." I took out a book "If that's okay with you at least."
"I mean I guess so, but why?" they asked me.
"You're a slime who managed to appear, protect this village, unite them with the local wolves and then given them all names leading them to evolve into other species, for someone like me who's devoted his life to studying magic and sorcery that's too good to pass up."
"I mean it's cool with me." The slime nodded a bit "Though you're not what I'd expect from a magic user."
"Train your body and mind." I said "I learned plenty of interesting spells and magics but it's useless if my body is pulverized in a moment."
"I did have one more question, you certainly don't look human." Rimuru commented "but you're not a goblin either."
"I don't think what I am is exceptionally relevant at the moment, if that's alright with you." I looked over "I've been around quite a long time, but I've never met something like you in all the years I've been around on this world…well I should rephrase I've never met a slime like you."
"Well thanks for your help, I'll be counting on you too."
"Likewise." I nodded looking back to my book "I wonder what would happen if I combined a magma blast with lightning magic?"
LATER
"Uhh this is gonna be a problem." Rimuru sighed.
"Indeed." I watched the Goblins attempting to raise a building only to have half the roof fall in.
"Without knowing real building skills and engineering this is our limit, isn't it?" they groaned "What about you Cryer, any books on building houses."
"I'm afraid most of my books are limited to the study of magic." I laughed "So unless you're planning to build a house of fireballs, I'm afraid they won't be of much use in that regard, and I certainly don't have enough to build a house of books either."
"What we need are skilled workers." Rimuru said.
"There were some people who traded with us before." Rigurd said "They were smart and I'm pretty sure some new building techniques as well. They were from the Dwarf Race."
"Dwarves? The ones that always give off that image of skill with crafts!" Rimuru said.
"I see you know of them." The Goblin Chief nodded.
"They live in a kingdom north of here along the river." I yawned "It's about two months on foot for the average person, if you rode those wolves, you've probably make it in good time. I've only been to Dwargon once before to buy a couple books."
That seemed to get the slime's mind set on travel, so they had a traveling party put together of a few wolves and goblins to set off, I was asked to come as well.
"Hey Rigur." Rimuru asked "Your brother had a name from someone too right, did he evolve?"
"Yes, but it wasn't exactly like this." He explained "I'm not sure why there's a difference though. My brother was given a name by someone named Gelmud."
"That name sounds familiar to me." I tapped my chin "Maybe I came across him on my travels?"
"He said he wanted my brother to be his subordinate one day."
We soon stopped for a bit to rest for the night before resuming our journey. One of the goblins, Gobta, had been to Dwargon a couple of times to trade, more than me at least. It was the Armed Nation of Dwargon, and it was built in a cavern where almost any race was welcomed. After chatting a bit everyone tried to get some rest.
"Shouldn't you be getting some rest?" Rimuru asked.
"Huh?" I looked up from my book "Sorry I was so engrossed in my studies I lost track of time."
"Reading that much you forget to sleep, no wonder you yawn so much." They laughed.
"I want to learn as many spells as possible." I said "I've always been known for curiosity and strength, a long time ago I fought a lot alongside my friends, and eventually my own curiosity got the better of me and it led to a falling out with them, story for another time I suppose."
"Sure, when you're up for talking about it I'll be all ears, uhh not that I have ears." They said.
That made me chuckle a bit.
"Yes, I think I'll remain out here while you head into the city when we arrive, I'm not really in the mood for studying Dwarf magic right now, I've already perused what they have to offer."
"Alright sure." They wobbled a bit as if shrugged.
I closed my book and looked up at the sky for a few moments.
"I have a feel for the first time in nearly 200 years that I have something besides studying to look forward too." I smiled
