Prompt: "This Didn't Work Out as I had Expected"
"Hey, Chlo, you still want to go to the riff off?" Beca ambled out of the bathroom, clad in only a fluffy towel.
Chloe was lying on her bed, face down, with books and a legal pad strewn around her. She was humming and waving her feet to an inaudible beat as she chewed on a pen. "Sure, do you?"
"Honestly, I'm just going for the alcohol," the brunette admitted. "We never actually win these things."
"Don't say that in front of Aubrey," Chloe said with a grimace. "She's being a bit unbearable about that stuff lately."
"Just lately?" Beca laughed. "We're talking about the same Aubrey, right? The one who hates me?"
Light blue eyes rolled. "She doesn't..."
"What are you doing here?" Aubrey demanded as she stormed into the room and dropped her purse on her bed, glaring at Beca and then Chloe.
The redhead scrambled to her feet, hands held out in a soothing gesture. "The showers at the dorms are always busy on a Saturday night. I told Beca she could come here to get ready for the riff off."
Aubrey's hands dropped to her hips as she looked doubtfully back at her best friend. "Chloe, drop the act. I know how you feel about her and if you're going to be having sex with her, at least put a sock on the door!"
There was utter silence for a moment, then there was the sound of Beca's butt hitting the dresser behind her. She looked back and forth between the blonde and redhead. "Dude… what? Chloe and I aren't having sex… I…" She looked at her redheaded friend who had dropped onto the bed, her face buried in her hands. "Chlo?"
Aubrey had the good sense to realize her mistake and she shook her head, tone softening. "Hey, I'm sorry… I… I'm a little stressed and I… I know I'm hard on you, Beca, but it's because Chloe's my best friend and I worry so much about her getting hurt and…"
"Oh my God! Stop talking, Aubrey!" Chloe exclaimed suddenly. Then she fled the room, slamming the door behind her.
"What the fuck is going on?" the brunette asked, clutching her towel to her chest.
The Bellas captain sighed and shook her head. "I'm sorry. Really. You should talk to Chloe though, ok?"
Beca just nodded dazedly and went back into the bathroom to finish getting ready. Thirty minutes later, she was strolling along the path to the pool with the other Bellas. Chloe hadn't come back but the younger woman was relieved to see her already sitting on the side of the pool, a solo cup of some concoction in her hand.
The brunette excused herself from her friend and went to take a seat next to the redhead, swinging her legs as she waited for the older woman to acknowledge her.
"What else did Aubrey tell you?" Chloe finally asked, light blue eyes averted from her friend's face.
"Nothing," Beca replied. "And I'm glad she didn't because, whatever's going on, I'd prefer to hear it from you."
"I'm sorry, Becs," Chloe whispered.
Beca shimmied a little closer and rested her hand on her friend's knee. "You're apologizing… but as far as I'm concerned you haven't done anything wrong. Talk to me, Chloe?"
"I have…" Chloe swallowed as her voice shook with nerves. "I have the biggest crush on you, Beca Mitchell, and I told Aubrey about it. That's why she said what she said. She assumed something had happened between us when you came out of the bathroom like that."
Beca was quiet for a long moment as she just nodded to herself.
The older woman's eyes finally met her friend's. "I'm really sorry if that makes you uncomfortable or… or… if you're creeped out by it… I…"
But Chloe's words were cut off when Beca grasped a hold of her shirt and pulled her close, looking into her eyes for a moment before leaning closer and kissing her gently on the lips. "I'm not creeped out, Chloe," she whispered as she slid their noses together. "I'm actually really turned on right now."
The redhead swallowed. "You… you are? Seriously?"
"Seriously. I mean... have you seen you?" Beca chuckled, making the older woman giggle. "You're amazing, Chloe, and so beautiful." They came together again, the kiss longer and deeper, and when they eased apart, Chloe smiled seductively.
"I think I've changed my mind about wanting to be at the riff off. Want to get out of here?"
"Definitely!" Beca replied, getting to her feet and then pulling Chloe to hers. "Kimmy Jen is out for the night."
The redhead grinned and kissed Beca again before taking her hand and leading her in the direction of the dorm. Down in the pool, the Bellas were looking at each other in total surprise.
"But…" Fat Amy began, holding up a hand and then closing her mouth again with a little headshake.
"Wow," Aubrey murmured. "That didn't work out at all as I expected." Then she smiled broadly. "But I'm glad it worked out!"
