"Oh Angelus, they're perfect," Darla gushed, referring to the three cowering children that had been hiding in the food cellar. They would be the perfect dessert after the refreshing meal that was their parents.
The children clung to each other with terror in their eyes. The oldest one had to be six years old, at the most.
"When I saw them together, I knew you would love them, darlin'," Angelus said to his fiery lover. "We'll each have one, and share the last."
Darla acted first and grabbed the oldest child. It was a girl, with hair as red as fire and burning hazel eyes that flashed angrily at Darla. She squirmed and tried to bite Darla's hand.
"Oh no, sweety. I'll do the biting here," Darla said as her faced twisted into its grotesque vampire form. She sank her teeth into the girl's tender flesh and drank until the girl's heartbeat slowed and almost stopped. She set the girl's limp body down and turned to Angelus, who was finishing off the middle child, an angel-faced little girl with strawberry-blond hair. The remaining child sat trembling in the corner, his small hands covering his eyes.
"Honey, come here, we won't hurt you," Darla said to him, opening her arms in a motherly fashion. The boy, not knowing any better, crawled into her arms seeking comfort, but only finding a searing pain as Darla's fangs sank into his neck. Even more pain came when Angelus began to drink from the other side of his neck. They drank passionately from the defenseless boy, two devils bound together by an innocent. As soon as the boy began to feel limp, Darla could feel an intense heat coming from behind her. She turned around and her gaze was met by engulfing flames that were consuming the house around them.
"Angelus, the house is on fire! We need to get out of here!," Darla screamed as she grasped onto his arm. They ran into the kitchen an were met by William and Drucilla who were exiting the bedroom, no doubt passionately finishing off the parents. They stood there in panic, not seeing a way out, until Angelus crashed through a window with Darla held protectively in his arms. William followed his example with Drucilla, and the four of them lay sprawled on the ground, panting. They felt a gaze penetrating them and looked up. Through the flames, on the other side of the burning remains of the house, they saw the face of a strikingly beautiful young girl. She had flowing raven hair, pouting red lips, and piercing blue eyes that glared at them menacingly. Her white gown was blowing as wildly as her hair, making her almost appear as though she were floating. Darla gasped as she recognized the girl immediately.
"The one made too young," she said to the others. "She was made even before me, the first child to be made a vampire. It was a vampire law not to make one so young because it mutates the vampire. She has a human soul and it's rumored that she has extra powers, more than what the normal vampire possesses." Darla sat up and moved closer to Angelus. "She was forced to watch her family get slaughtered, and then the vampire that murdered them turned her into a vampire to be his bride. She didn't speak a word to him, didn't resist, and them murdered him with a pick ax through the heart when he was least expecting it. From then on, she's avenged any child's death that she witnesses."
The girl met Angelus' gaze, and, as if right on cue, left the scene and disappeared into the nearby woods. As the villagers arrived and started to throw buckets of water on the fire, Angelus could sense that he would meet the mysterious vampire again.
