Chapter 1: Harrison Potter: The Man-Who-Sometimes-Hates-His-Job
Quantico, Virginia, United States of America.
An audible sigh could be heard quite clearly, even over the hustle and bustle of commuters on their way to work that morning.
Clutching his pumpkin-spiced latte in one hand and his helmet in the other, Harrison Potter silently bemoans his luck (or lack there-of) and the fact that he once again has no clue how exactly he gets roped into these kinds of situations.
Raising his head to look up at the, frankly, intimidating muggle building, he casts his mind back to the moment he was assigned this mission.
FLASHBACK
Ministry of Magic, Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Great Britain
"POTTER!"
Head Auror Harrison Potter looks up at a fuming Auror Gawain Robards, silently wondering what crawled up his ass and died.
"POTTER! Minister Shacklebolt wants you in his office now!" Seething, Robards is unsure and rather insulted he has been reduced to play messenger boy. HIM. A seasoned Auror at least ten years senior to Potter. A seasoned Auror that was overlooked for the Head role for the "special" Harrison Potter.
"Mate, what did you do?" Sniggered Auror Ronald Weasley.
"Beats me Ron, whatever the reason he has called, I have a feeling I ain't gonna like it much." Replied Harrison. At that, he turns to Robards with a droll look. " Robards, did Kings tell you what he needed me for?"
"That's MINISTER Shacklebolt to you, show some respect. And no he did not, so hurry up!" Gawain knows he could get in trouble with his attitude, but can anyone blame him when he is the only one to realise Potter doesn't deserve his rank?
"Alright, alright, I'm going"
Ministry of Magic, Level One Minister for Magic and Support Staff, Great Britain.
Minister Kingsley Shacklebolt's Office
Knocking on the office door, Harrison waits for the all clear to enter.
"Come in Harry" Kings' baritone voice reverberating through the other side of the door.
Harry enters the office with slight trepidation/
"You wanted to see me Sir?"
"What's with the formality? You can call me Kings as usual, you know that"
"I know that Kings" grins Harry "but I just got chewed out by Robards for "disrespecting" you by not calling you by your title"
"Call me by my title and I'll call you by yours Harry" responds Kingsley. As childish as it may seem, Harry just poked his tongue out at him in reply.
"Anyway, take a seat Harry, I have called you here for something important"
Harry sits down in front of Kingsley's desk, waiting for him to start.
"I'm not sure if you have heard yet, but there has been someā¦..activity happening over in the colonies that we simply cannot ignore"
Harry is startled to hear the dread in his voice - Kingsley is usually so stoic.
"These incidents are pointing towards the escaped Death Eaters and their lot, unfortunately these have garnered the attention from the muggle authorities" frowns the Minister.
"What are the signs that this is the work of the Death Eaters?" asks Harry.
"The bodies show no clear sign of death. Nothing. They all show some signs of torture, but nothing that would cause death. None of the victims have any previously known illnesses that could contribute to their deaths. I suspect once they were finished with the victims, the Killing Curse was used" there was a slight pause before Kingsley continues "and all of them have had a lightning bolt carved into their foreheads"
Harry runs his fingers through his hair at that. "Shit. That's not telling at all" responds Harry with slight sarcasm. "What do we do Kings?"
"Harry, I know this will be hard for you, but you are our only recruit that still has any kind of experience in the muggle world, I need you over there to liase with the FBI in Virginia - you have all the credentials required and MI6 still considers you an agent." Kings braces himself for the blow up sure to happen knowing Harry wouldn't find this mission appealing. But he continues before Harry could get an edge in.
"We can get you a temporary position in the Behavioural Analysis Unit in the FBI"
"The BAU? Kings! These guys are like, the best of the best when it comes to investigations! There is no way we can keep the Statute being around them. They will sniff out the lies sraight away!" Harry frantically replies. Being well versed in the mundane world, Harry is well aware of the various intelligence agencies.
"Why can't you put me with the Magical Division of the FBI?"
"Because the BAU already accepted the case."
"Do I get a team?" asks Harry sulkily.
"You can take two Aurors with you, but they will be for consultation only and will base themselves elsewhere" replied Kingsley. " And Harry, do try to keep magic a secret"
"Fine."
