Five Teen Guerrillas Fight Monarchy

Five Teen Guerrillas Fight Monarchy
By Koneko Yuy

In an age where battles are fought with huge battle machines called mobile suits, five teenage boys turned guerrillas fight against a monarchy set on conquering the Earth. The boys, named Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, Quatre Rabera Winner, Trowa Barton, and Chang Wufei, are all that stand between total world domination and true peace. That means they're barely allowed to lead normal lives. Sure, they go to school, play sports, study, and lead normal teenage lives, but that other life of a Gundam pilot gets in the way. Gundams, so called because of the fact that five mobile suits were made with Gundamium Alloy, hence the term Gundam, are the boys' only partners. A girl by the name of Relena Peacecraft is the boys' only hope for continuing their fight for world peace. Relena, a pacifist, is made the queen of the world, and the boys decide to fight to protect her ideals.

This show, while it may seem cool, is on at 5:00 PM and it was on at 11:00 PM. The one that's on at 5 is rated Y-7 and the one that was on at 11 was rated PG. Even though the one at 5 is rated Y-7, it still has a lot of animated violence. While the show is about a war, there are a lot of battles in it. Hence, there is a lot of violence.

There are too many fighting scenes in Gundam Wing. Well, even though the show is, like I said, about war, the battle scenes depict a lot of deaths by Gundam pilots, like Heero, slicing other mobile suits in half, or stabbing them. There is also a scene where Heero self-destruct, or destroying his mobile suit, along with knocking himself unconscious.

So, exactly why do cartoons for kids depict so much violence? From Bugs Bunny dropping an anvil on Daffy Duck to huge mobile suits slicing each other to bits, animated violence has played a big part in our everyday lives. I never understood why animated violence is so big in our lives, and frankly, I don't really care. It's a part of our lives and it'll probably remain that way for as long as I know.

Koneko: Yes, people, that is a real school editorial. I had to do one for my Language Arts class. Who knew Gundam Wing would make such an interesting editorial? Any complaints will be laughed at...
