Hello everyone! I'm back with a new story! I know I have a few old ones to update, expect updates within the next days! YAY!
Anyway, this is a project I started in 2016, but had put it on hold. I decided to continue and see how it goes.
Also, what are you thoughts and feelings about the Digimon Adventure reboot? I want to read your opinion! I hope they don't push Taichi/Sora down our throats, and hope for many Sora/Yamato moments 3
Feel free to send me a PM to talk about it or anything at al :D
Here's the fanfic! Hope you enjoy!
(PS: The title is inspired by Richie Sambora's song "Seven Years Gone")

Chapter 1: Back to where you belong
Wind messed the man's hair the moment he crossed the plane door. He spent so many years away that he forgot Tokyo can be extremely windy sometimes. And cold too.
"Marie." He called his personal assistant through his shoulder. "Grab my black coat."
"Yes, sir." The short brunette woman went inside to pick his clothing request.
"Welcome to Japan, sir." An employee from the airport greeted him as he touched the ground. "You will be leaving through another exit because there is a large group of fans waiting for you in the main lounge."
"Great. The last thing I need right now is to take pictures and sign autographs." He looked at the employee, who had a weird look on his face. "What? I'm tired from this long trip."
Mary came running and put the black coat over the man's shoulder.
"Mary, why did you take so long? I could be frozen to death."
"I'm sorry, sir." She quickly apologized. "You have too many handy bags, it was hard to find it."
"I don't want excuses; I want you to work faster."
"Yes, sir."
"Fame has really come to his head, hasn't it?" An airport security whispered to another.
"What did you say?" The singer stopped and turned to them, with a frown on his face.
"Nothing, sir. Please, forgive us."
"It will take me a while to get used to this again." He sighed.
"Yamato!"
The musician looked towards where the voice came from and a smile appeared on his face. His father, a TV producer, and his 21 year old brother were waiting for him.
"Hello, Takeru. Dad."
"It's good to have you back, son."
"God, I missed you!" Takeru hugged his brother tight.
"I forgot how enthusiastic you can be sometimes." Yamato tried to pull away from him.
"You are the one who's too cold."
"So, how does it feel to be in Japan again?" Hiroaki asked him.
"It feels… weird. It's going to be hard to adjust to Japanese lifestyle again. These seven years I spent all over the world were unbelievable. Some places were crazy; you wouldn't believe."
"Well, there will be plenty of time for you to tell us everything that's happened during this time."
"So, what's up with you, little brother?" Yamato addressed to Takeru. "Did you go to college? Are you working right now?"
"I'm studying languages at Tokyo University. It's my last period, actually."
"Awesome! Do you like it?"
"Yeah! I've developed the passion for writing since mom got me an internship at the newspaper company she works at. I plan on writing my own book real soon."
"Cool! I'm sure you're gonna do great at it."
"Thanks."
"I take it that you and mom are back on speaking terms again, then."
"Well, you know me… I can't stay mad at someone for a long time."
"I sure do."
"Come on, boys. Let's go home."
"What about you?" Takeru asked. "Are you and the band planning on recording a new album and going on another tour?"
"Not anytime soon." Yamato put his hands behind his head. "Right now the only thing I can think of is resting. I'm sure the others feel the same."
"You all worked so hard, you deserve a little break."
"Yeah." The older blonde looked through the window. "I see nothing changed around here, huh?"
"If you are talking about buildings and such, then definitely not much. But some things changed, yeah."
"Like what?"
Takeru and Hiroaki exchanged worried glances, which didn't go unnoticed by Yamato.
"Oh no, don't do that. I want to know."
"Well…" The soon-to-be-writer said unsurely. "Sora has gotten engaged recently."
Yamato felt a cold chill all over his body. Never had he expected this to be about his ex-girlfriend. A sharp pain crossed his heart, causing him to feel guilty again for leaving her so abruptly seven years ago.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have told you."
"No, it's okay." The musician shook his head and smiled. "It's good to know she has moved on. She and I wouldn't work out."
"If you say so."
"It wouldn't be fair to make her wait for me."
"Are you saying you still love her?"
"Where did that come from? We broke up years ago."
"But a love as strong as yours can't be easily forgotten. It can be buried, but not over."
"That's a romantic idea in theory. It doesn't work like that in real life."
"It could."
"I know you really liked her, Takeru. But there's no way we can start over. She probably didn't forgive me for choosing my career."
"I don't blame her."
"I don't either. I just hope deep down she understands that choosing my band didn't mean I didn't love her. I did."
"I'm sure she realized that as time went by."
"I don't want to talk about that anymore. So can we please change the subject?"
"Sure." Hiroaki said. "Your mother is making a special lunch for us, at home."
"What?" Yamato asked with disbelief. "She's at our house? Cooking?"
"That's right."
"Since when you and mom started getting along again?"
"It wasn't a long time ago. I think it was when Takeru was about to finish college."
"I said a few things changed around here."
"Are you two back together?"
"Hell no. Your mother and I wouldn't stand being in a marriage again. We're not even together, we just… make out sometimes."
"Save me the details, will you?"
Hiroaki started laughing. "I'm sorry, son. But since you're living with me again, you're bound to see that quite frequently."
"I have to find my own place then."
"Please take me with you." Takeru pleaded. "It's so embarrassing to hear moans and screams coming from mom's room when they are having sex."
"Whoa, dad, you and mom have sex with Takeru in the house? That's awful!"
"Tell me about it!"
"It's not like that at all. Sometimes it just… happens."
"I will be terrified my whole life because of that."
"Don't be so dramatic, Takeru. Like you don't do that with the girls you hook up with at college."
"WHAT?!" Yamato looked over his shoulder. "I want to hear all about this when we get home."
"Really, Yamato, it's not a big deal… dad's exaggerating."
"Like hell I am. You often come to me asking for condoms."
"Dad!" The younger blonde buried his head on his hands.
"My baby brother has finally become a man."
"Oh no, not you too. And stop pinching my cheeks, you know I hate that."
"I do, but it's fun teasing you. I missed that." The musician laughed. "So you go around the campus hunting for girls huh?"
"I go there to study, I take it very seriously. I sometimes hook up yeah, but I'm not ready to be in a relationship yet, since…"
"Since Hikari turned you down for Ken? Are you really still into her?"
"Hey, you still love Sora. So who are you to say something?"
"Stop you two. That's enough."
"I'm sorry, dad."
"Sorry."
"Good." Hiroaki turned the engine down. "Home sweet home."
*********
The 25 year old auburn haired woman heard a car honking when she was walking out of her building. She rolled her eyes as she heard the guy hitting on her best friend.
"Seriously, Mimi, how can you not get angry at that?"
"Well, good morning to you too!"
"I'm sorry. Good morning."
"You'll get used to this after it gets common. It's not like they are getting anywhere with me, so I'll just ignore. It's what happens when you're hot."
"It shouldn't be like that, you know?"
"Someone is jealous because they don't get such things?"
"Please! I barely have time to being hit by horny guys in their convertibles."
"You can't deny some are hot."
"But they also have no brain, so what's the point? I prefer Mike all the way."
"Of course you would. He's your fiancé." Mimi nudged her in the arm. "I'm just saying you should observe more."
"Mimi, I'm not intending to break up with him anytime soon. You know how hard it was to let him in."
"I was just saying it, you don't have to do it."
"I know."
"By the way, did you see who is back?"
"No, who?"
"Sora, stop looking at your cellphone and look at me!" Mimi took the mobile away from her friend's hands. "It's a really annoying habit. People stopped socializing in person and started communicating online!"
"You're the one to talk! Not too long ago you used to hide in a room so you could talk to Koushiro."
"But he had trouble socializing, you know that very well. It took me a lot of effort to get him out of his shell."
"I know. I know. I'm sorry." The stylist slid her phone into her pocket. "It's just that Mike is going back to England and we were trying to seize every moment we can before he leaves."
"Whoa what?" Mimi said rather loudly. "You didn't tell me he was going back to his country! How long is he staying there?"
"We don't know yet. It depends on how fast or slow things get done. It could be for months, for all I care."
"I'm sorry, Sora."
"It's alright. I knew it would happen eventually."
"But you can still visit him, right? You should definitely visit London!"
"I don't know. I have my clothing store to take care of and Yumi has classes and everything. I can't just leave her with my parents."
"So you're just not gonna see each other until he comes back?"
"We'll have to talk on video, I guess." Sora shrugged. "We've never done this before, but we will figure something out."
"Wow." Mimi said shocked.
"What?"
"Nothing… it's just that you don't seem to be the type to settle for things like this."
"Really?" Sora raised her eyebrow. "Why do you think that?"
"Well, because… don't get me wrong, but sometimes you are way too strict. You only accept when things are your way."
"I do not! I can accept them in different ways."
"Okay, if you say so."
"So, who is back? You didn't tell me yet."
"You seriously hadn't watched the news?"
"Mimi, I have more important things to do. I have a daughter."
"That doesn't mean you can't watch TV, but whatever. Yamato came back yesterday."
Sora stood still in her position, a cold chill filled all over her body. "What did you say?"
"It's everywhere. Your ex is back in Japan."
"Yamato is back? What do I do now?"
"Don't worry, it's not like he's coming straight to see you. Tokyo is too big, you'll never run into each other."
"I'm serious, Mimi. He can't find out about Yumi."
"Sora, don't you think it's time you tell her the truth? Will you let her spent most of her life thinking her father died?"
"As far as I'm concerned he's dead to me." She shrugged. "Besides, what I am supposed to tell her? Her father chose his band over me?"
"He didn't know you were pregnant. His decision might have been different if he did."
"Why are you defending him now?"
"I'm not defending him, Sora. I'm just saying things would have been different if he knew."
"You don't know that."
Mimi sighed. "Just promise you will think about this. Is that the life you want for your daughter? She has the right to know who her father is. And Yamato has the right to know he has a daughter. You can't keep this away from them forever."
"I'm just protecting her, Mimi. This is for the best."
"If you say so. Just don't regret it later."
"I won't regret it. I promise."
"Okay."
"So how's your show going in the new schedule? You said it was facing problems with audience ratings, did they get around it?"
Mimi sighed. "Sadly, no. I mean, we managed to increase its ratings a little, but it's still not enough. I don't know what to expect now."
"Are you saying they might cancel it?"
"It's likely. I'm only good at this, Sora. I have no idea what I will do if I lose my show."
"Don't worry, things will turn out great. I'm sure you will find something you're talented at though."
"I hope so." She put a lock of her hair behind her ear. "I can't imagine doing anything other than being on tv."
"Maybe you should talk to your director and see if they reschedule it to another time or something."
"Maybe. But I doubt they would do anything about it."
"Why not?"
"I don't know. I used to share my thoughts and feelings, but they never took them into account. And I'm the hostess of the show."
"It's awful that they do that. They should at least consider your ideas."
"Yeah, well…"
"I say you should try again. Things might be different this time."
"You think so?"
"Well, you'll never know unless you try."
"So, what do you need my help with?"
"Oh, that's right! I want to prepare a special party for Mike before he goes away. His birthday is this weekend."
"Okay, you want a private party? A romantic party?" Mimi nudged Sora on the arm, making her face turn bright red.
"Maybe. You shouldn't let these things out like that."
"Ahh you look so cute when you're embarrassed!"
"Stop it, Mimi! I hate being this embarrassed."
"I don't know why you get like this. It's normal to want a romantic dinner with your fiancé."
"I know. I know. I just don't want to make a big deal out of it. It's supposed to be something private, you know?"
"Well, you're not 'making a big deal out of it'. You're just asking for your best friend's help."
"Alright, the embarrassment is over."
"Good. So what do you have in mind?"
"I want to do something different, get away from the traditional. I want to do something he will remember forever."
"Okay, so I know just the perfect restaurant you should make reservations at! And also you should definitely buy a present he won't forget."
"I think I know what to buy him, but I can't tell you just yet."
"Hmmm nasty." Mimi mocked and Sora felt embarrassed once more.
"Would you stop it? It's not that at all!"
"If you say so."
"Focus, Mimi." She said seriously. "Okay, the first thing we need to do is make the reservations at the restaurant. We can figure out the rest after that."
"I'll drive." She grabbed the keys and they headed to Hino's restaurant.
