...Ragdoll Cat...
Grandma and grandpa knock on my room door. I hop off my bed and open the door. "Yes?" I ask. "Your mum's back. Are you ready to go?" grandma asks. I sigh. "Can't I just stay with you guys?" I wonder. "Amia, you know she's been trying for a while now. It's just until school starts." grandpa places a hand on my shoulder. I roll my eyes. "Is uncle Lupin back yet?" I try again.
Grandma gives me a warning look. "She's downstairs waiting for you. Now she's my daughter and we all know she may not have made the best decisions but she loves you and she's trying. Amia Blanchet Black you need to try too." grandma pokes my arm. "This is the umpteenth time she's left me with relatives because I sometimes remind her of him." I mutter.
They share a look. No one talks about my father and mum often drops me on family when she can no longer bear to look at me or be near me. I roll my eyes and turn away. "It's been five years and you're letting her waltz back in here like she just left yesterday." I force the words out fighting back the tears threatening to spill over.
"Amia, there's only two weeks until the new term starts and then you'll be at school mostly until the summer break. At least give her a chance." grandma pleads. I start to whine and grandpa puts his hands on his hips. "Fine, but when she abandons me, I get my own place to stay so I don't have to keep bouncing around from place to place." I huff.
Mum holds her arms out for a hug but I side step and walk around her. I hear grandma and grandpa's sighs. I put my headphones on and wait on the porch. Mum's house is more like a hastily purchased apartment in London. As soon as she shows me my room she vanishes. I roll my eyes and flop on the floor. I only leave to go to the bathroom, shower, and get something to drink. Mum has yet to try and talk to me.
By the third day I'm beginning to think grandma and grandpa forced her to come and get me. I grab my purse and the key mum gave me and leave. I stroll to the nearest clothing store and browse the selection. I also visit the art supply store and the shoe store before going home. Mum is in the kitchen when I get back and try to sneak back to my room.
"I'm making dinner if you'd care to join me." she calls not looking up. I take a peek in the kitchen and wince. "Is my cooking that bad Amia?" mum sighs. "No, I'm just allergic to seafood." I state. She places the spoon on the counter in shock. "Are you serious?" she gasps. "No, but if you want to know ask grandma. Pizza is fine. With extra cheese." I rub my tummy. Mum waves me away but I see a faint smile there.
The next day I head to Diagon Alley to get my school supplies and when I return, I smell cheese pizza. I find several boxes of cheese pizza outside my room with a note saying mum had to go to work. She's a Mediwitch so I shrug it off quite used to the fact she's not going to be home. I look for anything besides pizza and wind up going to the nearest convienience store for ice cream, soda, sweets, hot dogs, and wings. I spread my haul out on my bed and click through the tv stations until I find some good cartoons.
Mum drops me off at the platform in a hurry since she got a last-minute call for work. I put my things on the train and change into my uniform. I find myself looking out the window at the dark clouds in the distance, dark clouds? I jump up and open my window to get a better look. I recognize the clouds and slam the window shut and step into the middle of the compartment and get my wand.
My deduction is right. A dementor slips along the corridor followed by several of its brethren. One pauses just outside my door and turns its hooded head my way. It sweeps into the compartment and my breath becomes visible. I try my damnedest to think of happy memories. One comes to mind though a bit hazy.
An image of my parents smiling down at me looking very much in love. I think of the spell I need as the dementor reaches out a bony hand. A blindingly bright silver light burst from my wand tip. A ragdoll cat jumps out knocking the dementor into the corridor. I gasp and drop to my knees. I don't have long to take a breather.
Three more dementors come to aid the first and it isn't until an all too familiar Patronus shows up that I can finally breath. A wolf battles alongside my cat until the dementors flee. Uncle Lupin bursts in and I run into his arms. "There, there. Are you ok Amia?" he whispers. "They kept coming after me. I just barely was able to remember the spell." I cry. He pats my head and hugs me tightly. Once I'm calm, he smiles at me. "You did a great job Amia." he smiles wiping my tears away.
I frown at the note from McGonagall. I slide it into my bag and continue eating breakfast. "In trouble?" Dean nudges me. I scoff and roll my eyes. "Hardly, I'm being praised." I smirk. "Sure..." he teases rolling his eyes playfully. "Why would I ever get in trouble? I'm damned near perfect." I huff. Neville, Seamus, and Dean snigger. I wave my finger at them before hopping up. "If you guys are going to tease me then I won't help you with your homework anymore!" I stick my tongue out at them before heading up to McGonagall's office.
After uncle Lupin's class he pulls me to the side. "I hope you don't mind but McGonagall had me inform your mother about the train incident." he sits on the edge of his desk. "Why? She's busy." I pout. He smiles and tuts. "Haven't you given her enough grief. She's extremely worried about you. Write to her and let her know you're ok, ok?" he smiles and ruffles my hair. "What complete utter bullshit!" I mutter. Uncle Lupin smacks the top of my head.
