"See you tomorrow, Miyuki-sensei!" a young boy yells out as he runs out of the classroom door.
"Ah, Jun! No running inside!" The teacher, Miyuki Kazuya yells at the boy as he watches him run down the hallway.
Miyuki sighs as he sees the other groups of kids leaving the building. It's the last day of the week, that means that he doesn't have to stick around and can go home a little early today. One of the few things he can look forward to nowadays.
If you would have asked him even at his college graduation what he would be doing for his job, never would he have ever said working as an elementary school teacher. Originally, his plan had always been to play baseball professionally. But after injuring his ankle in his last season of college ball, he was told that he'd never be able to play again, at least not anywhere near the level he had been playing at.
He had ended up graduating with a degree in mathematics. After spending a couple months moping around not knowing what he should do with his life, Narumiya Mei, an old friend he played with in high school, contacted him saying the school he worked at had an opening for a math teacher. One thing led to another and now here Miyuki is, spending his afternoons telling kids not to run in the hallways.
"Ah Miyuki-san," he hears someone call out to him as he's about to leave the school building, through the same exit his students left out of only an hour before.
Miyuki turns around and sees that it was Yoshikawa, another teacher who had called out to him. "Yes, can I help you with something?" He asks. Behind the other teacher, he spots a boy standing a few meters away. It seems he is attempting to hide behind a door. As if the two adults are about to talk about something affecting him and he wants to know what will happen.
"Well, Miyuki-san, if I'm not mistaken, you have a lot of experience playing baseball correct? And you played it in college?" She asks.
"Um… Yes. That's correct," Miyuki tentatively answers. He can only suspect this will lead to one thing. And now he knows why the kid is watching them.
"Well," Haruno continues. "You see, the coach of the baseball team last year retired. He also moved far away. Now the school's team is in need of a coach. Would you be able to do it?"
"Let's not forget the fact that you're one of the only teachers right now who doesn't help out with a club," Miyuki hears one of the other teachers mumble as they walk around them.
Miyuki internally winces at that statement. It's true though isn't it, he rarely does any tasks besides the standard subjects he was hired to teach. Then Miyuki looks back at the kid standing behind Haruno. The kid isn't in any of Miyuki's classes, but Miyuki is pretty sure his name is Tetsu or something like that.
"So, Miyuki-san? Do you think you could do it?" Yoshikawa's voice pulls him out of his thoughts.
"Do it?" Miyuki repeats, he totally spaced out and didn't hear a thing the woman was saying.
She nods. "Do you think you could coach the baseball team? They're all really good kids, it would mean the world to them if we didn't have to cancel again this year," she begs.
Miyuki looks back over her shoulder at the kid standing in the doorway. The kid is looking at him with intense eyes, like he is on a mission and won't take no for an answer.
"I'll- I guess I can try,I've never really coached before," Miyuki ends up saying. He internal sighs, how much work can coaching a little league team be, anyway?

Miyuki sighs as he hangs up the phone. It wasn't everyday that his father called him. Hell, the last time they probably talked was when the school year started. So he should have expected that a call for him must mean that something happened.
And this 'something' is his great aunt's death. Which, not to speak ill of the dead, he's pretty sure that if he ever met her at all would have been when he was something like 5-years old. Long before his current age of 26. So why does he have to attend her funeral?
"It's expected that you'll be there, Kazuya," his father's voice echoes in his head. At least this means he will have one less day of dealing with hyper kids.

Miyuki walks out of the bathroom only to be greeted with the feeling that something is looking at him. He turns his head to the right, and low on the floor he sees a dog. A small little shiba inu. What is a dog doing here?
His great aunt's funeral had concluded about an hour ago, and now everyone had gathered at her house for the usual food and conversation. He heard that the woman had a dog, but what was the dog doing at her funeral?
"Ruff," the dog lets a soft bark out before turning around where it stood and running off down the hallway.
Miyuki thought that was strange, but he wasn't going to worry about it, if the dog gets into trouble, he's not the one responsible for it.
He goes back to the room he can hear a bunch of people talking in. While he would want nothing more than to just leave now, he doesn't have a car, this house is far outside of the city, and his dad was his ride here today. He won't be able to leave until his father wants to, or if some other soul will take pity on him and drive him back to the city.
"Ah, Kazuya, come over here," his father calls out as he walks into the room. He is then pulled into whatever conversation is taking place with the various family members he is pretty sure he is only meeting now for the first time.
After meeting his fifth aunt, (seriously why is his dad only now introducing him to all these people?) he hears a loud crash sound from out in the hallway. Looking over to the doorway, he sees the small dog from earlier run by, holding what looks like a chicken leg in its mouth.
"Oh, that's little Eijun," the woman standing next to him says.
"Little Eijun?" Miyuki asks. This is probably the most interesting thing he will see today.
"Yes, he's Tomiko's little dog. I wonder what's going to happen to him now that she died."
Miyuki has no response to that.

At the reading of his great aunt's will, Miyuki learns that he is named to inherit something. Which is surprising to him, as he has mentioned many times before, he only met this person once… when he was five years old.
Then he learns that he is named to inherit the woman's dog, Eijun, and… come again? He's inheriting a dog. A dog? That was supposedly this woman's pride and joy? They can't be serious. But looking around the room, it seems no one has anything to say, and they quickly move onto the next item.
Miyuki is left lost, thoughts swirling in his mind as he looks across the room to find said dog peeing in someone's shoe by the front door. Squinting his eyes behind his glasses he sees that said shoe is his shoes. He doesn't know if he should be mad at the dog or internally crying. All he knows is that he has to find someway to get out of this… before he goes home tonight.
"You can't be serious, a dog?" Miyuki asks, looking at his father. "I've never had a dog in my life."
"Well for some reason, your great aunt wanted you to have him. She probably thought he could do you some good," the older man replies.
"I've only met this woman once when I was five, I doubt she knew what was best for me," Miyuki retorts. Miyuki looks back across the yard and watches as the dog goes chasing after butterflies. "What am I supposed to do with a dog? My landlord doesn't even allow them."
"I'm sure you'll figure something out," his father says as he leaves Miyuki and Eijun in the backyard. It looks like he is not getting out of this before he goes home.
