Demon Slayer belongs to Koyoharu Gotoge. I only own my OC.
Reincarnated in a show you've watched is a dream come true for the others. However, being in a show where survival is the priority and death rate is all time high isnt something I wanted to experience. A place where demons lurk in the dark and wait for the opportunity to feast on human blood gives me an idea where I was. It is a show that receives a huge amount of praise due to its great animation but to be honest average plot. I reincarnated in Demon Slayer.
Ren Kitazawa is the name my parents have given me. The eldest out of the two children my parents have. As the eldest it is my responsibility to help my family in any way I can and living in the northern part of Japan certainly makes it a lot harder. Having majority of the year snowing certainly make problems regarding food supply challenging. Good thing my family are proficient in hunting and wood gathering.
"Ren calm your breath" My father whispered near me. " Control your breathing and lock your eyes towards you target, dont make wasted movements"
I pulled the arrow in the bow, closed my eyes as I relaxed my shoulders, feeling the swaying of my jet black hair. Holding my breath, I open my eyes. Crimson red eyes locked onto the deer in front of me, unsuspecting to the danger that it will soon face ready to shoot the arrow right in the head.
As I was about to shoot, the dear look at my eyes and proceed to run away. With quick reflexes, I quickly adjusted my aim to where the deer is heading and let my arrow loose. With a sound indicating it hit, the deer falls down as blood starting to pour out of its body but still alive. It seems that the arrow has hit its body instead of its head. Nocking another arrow and letting it fly, hit right in its head killing it completly. After I finished the task, I let out a sigh of nervousness that I was holding.
"Well I got to say you're getting a lot better, give it a year then you'll probably hit it perfectly far away" He smiled as he crouched down, inspecting the deer.
"I still need more practice to compare to you dad" I shrug clearly disagreeing with what he said.
"Geez you and your humbleness you've got from your mother" He scratched the back of his head as he point his fingers at me. "Look here kid, you'll surpass me sooner or later especially with that eye of yours"
I'm a normal human dont get me wrong. I just have a condition where my eyes are above average. I dont know how I got it, I just realized it when I was 8 years old. I can see a lot farther with more clarity than most humans and since then it seems to get better with each passing year. As of right now, if i focus enough I can things a bit slowly which made my eyes strain from exhaustion and a massive headached if used for prolong use.
"On the downside though.. you still need to improve on hiding your presence much better" he said as he carries the deer on his back. "Our food for the coming winter nearly run away due to you staring too much. Kid you got to control your emotions a little"
"Emotions?"
"Yeah youre clearly showing too much passion for killing the dear, no wonder he noticed it"
"Passion? Something like bloodlust?" I asked
"But dark, but something like that. Anyway lets go back early for lunch then try it again later on"
We returned back at our house. It is a simple abode with stones, wood and dried leaves adourning it. It isnt much but it helps keep the cold from getting in. I set my bow and quiver in the storage area and proceed to take of my shoes as my father headed for the kitchen in the back of the house. I still need to get better than this I spoke in my mind. I dont know if demons can reach Hokkaido but Im not taking any chances. I still need to practice my sword skills. My skills in using the bow and arrow are great considering I'm still 13 but it wouldnt do much in killing demons. But maybe if I couted it in some wisteria poison it can atleast slow them down. Nah it'll be hard, maybe with Shinobu's help I can do it but as of right now I don't even have a wisteria tree. Since Hokkaido snows probably 3 quarters in a year, plant life is almost none existant, well except for kale, carrots and turnips. The only way to gather plants is to wait till summer. With regards to stamina, I can say that I'm more than fit enough to fight, the problem is the power I need to behead a full grown demon. So if ever a demon manage to get into our house my only chance is to hold the demon down and wait for the sun to rise. Fucking Sanemi style, if the snow isnt too thick that it blocks the sun.
"Ren ni welcome back"
I looked at the one who spoke to me and saw my sister standing at the entrance welcoming me in.
Koori Kitazawa. My younger sister that looks more like my mother than my father. Stern and serious face accompanied by her deep red analytic eye surveying me, probably looking for injuries that I may have. As she sits down across from me, her long black hair touches the ground. She is 3 years younger than me which makes her 10 years old. Even as someone who's a kid, she acts more like an adult with prim manners she always shown in front of us. According to mother, it is only right that she learnes proper manners especially if one day we decided to move to a much more lively sunny city. My sister may be like that but she has a soft spot for me, often stealing my share of food and sometimes hiding my boots.
I thanked my sister and removed my sky blue haori with little snowflakes all over it and put it besides me as I sit down on the tatami mat in our living room.
"Arent you cold with what youre wearing right now? I suggest you keep on wearing your haori" My sister and her lady like speech mannerism said.
"Its fine, besides I got used to it" I answered back as I wave my hand in dismissal.
"Alright then, just dont complain and cry like a baby once you've caught a cold" she smirks. Oh this girl is teasing me. As someones who older than her, I need to atleast answer back.
"Look whos talking" I sit straight up looking her in her eyes. "I wonder whos the last one who've caught a cold."
"Look you dont need to worry about me" I smiled teasingly. "I know you love your onii chan but cold only affects those who are stupid"
"Ah I see" she said as she widens her eyes in realization. "So thats why you and father are the ones catching it all year round, no wonder you have some... problems in you head. Thank you for the knowledge brother"
I sit there wih wide open mouth. Clearly not expecting this comeback, scratch that I should expect it with my stupid reply. My sister is clearly smarter than me as she focuses more on studies while I focused on providing food on the table with my father. I was about to lash out in response when I heard my mother called us to help her preparing for lunch.
I gritted my teeth and closed my fist in annoyance as my sister smirks at me, clearly enjoying the embarrassment she has given me.
As afternoon came by, I wore my haori and boots then go outside to train my sword. After a good two hour of training, I walk towards the perimeter of our house to check the traps we've put as a way to force wild animals in leaving. As I continued to keep looking at the traps we set, something caught my eye. Its a bit far and high as it is in a mountain. Looking at the height of the sun, I predicted that I still have atleast 2 to 3 hours before the sun set down. Feeling that it would be safe, I climb the mountain to get something that catch my attention. A good 40 minutes of climbing, I finally arive at my destination. It is an empty space with a basketball size hard blue rock in its center. The rock emits a cold air indicating its freezing temperature. I never seen such a stone both on this life and my previos one. I tried touching it but as soon as my hand reached its cold exterior I suddenly remove it back.
"Thats freaking cold, freezing cold" I blurted.
This is something new and my curiosity in knowing what it is killing me. For all I know this might be something dangerous but against my better reason I still found myself removing my haori and scarf to cover the stone and prepare to extract it. As I fully covered the stone, I raised it up then continue to carry it down the mountain. I need to stop numerous times as the cold in my hands becomes unbearable. However, I still continued carrying it devoted in bringing it back home and finding what kind of rock it is or what it does. After a grueling 3 hours, I finally came back home both sweaty and hot due to the exhaustion but cold due to the rock. Those 3 hours of climbing down the mountain made me return back home when the sun already set and darkness already covered my surroundings. As I got near the house I can see my sister calling someone inside, probably my parents, as they run towards me. When my mom got a hold of me, she hug me immediately then pull me back still holding my shoulders.
"Where have you been? We were worried about your safety!" She panicked. "Didnt I tell you that you should be back home BEFORE sun set not AFTER! And what are you holding?"
"Dear I know youre mad but let us go inside first, treat Ren's hand as something is wrong with his blue hands, and then we asks some question" My father cut my mother off trying to defuse the situation into something that both side can explain properly and clearly.
As I entered the house I set the stone on the ground outside the house, removing the cover that I put in then hang both my scarf and haori inside the house near the fire place. Afterwards, I let them bombard me with questions, it is their right after all. I waited for a good minute until they calm down before explaining my side of the story.
"I'm sorry for worrying you mom, dad, I clearly didnt expected to come home so late." I explained in a relax manner while drinking the tea my sister prepared. "I was just checking the traps that me and dad put around the house to keep away wild animals when I saw something that interest me"
"Let me guess it is the rock that you're carrying isnt it?" My mother asked as I nodded in confirmation.
"Your curiosity and your sharp eyes is clearly a bad combination" she sigh. "What we're you thinking? You could have been lost or injured or worst of all killed! I didnt gave birth to a child just for me to bury them later!"
"Yeah what your mother said son!" My dad added. "Although I am more curious about the rock you've brought home, its clealrly something else"
My mother elbowed my dad, giving him the stink eye. Clearly not supporting my father's attitude.
"Um... yeah Ren you should follow the rules we've set. Do you know how worried you mother and I!" He said standing up qnd pointing his fingers down. Knowing my dad, he's probably enjoying this and is clearly excited on knowing the rock that I've gathered which doesnt go unnoticed by my mother.
"I dont believe you two, here I am worrying then you are more concerned about the rock that he brought" she stand up then walks away, stonping her foots indicating her displeasure.
My father tried to reach to my mother but failed. "Shit! It looks like im sleeping next to you two!" He said as he sigh.
"Youre not gonna follow her?" I asked
"Nah she'll just ignore me, let her be for a while" he smiled. "Anyway about that rock, where do you get it?
I started explaining the events that happened in the afternoon. From how it caught my attention to how cold it is at touch. My dad just listen to me nodding his head and occasionally asking some questions. After I finished discussing about the stone, we sat in silence as my dad digest all the information.
"Im not sure about this but I have an idea of what it may be" he said, fingers on his chin thinking. "It may be a stone that our ancestors often talked about. Well it certainly fits the description about a blue freezing rock, but who knows? The information goes back to probably hundreds of years ago so it isnt accurate"
"Any idea how it works? Like a cooler or something?" I asked intriguingly
"Well i dont know, it wouldnt really work as a cooler since we are in the north" he shrugs. "I heard that our ancestors are hunters but dont know what that stone sepcifically does but its best if we keep it"
"Can we make it into a sword?"
"Well i guess a blacksmith can probably make one with the right equipment" he smiled as he stand up. "But why would you want one? Is it the reason why you always swing that stick every morning? Kinda weird"
"Well swords are cool not like bows" I answered
"Bastard youve probably angered a lot of our ancestors with that statement. We are in a line of hunters who uses bows to make a living" he said as he continues walking to our room.
Well if I can only say that bow are useless against an enemy you need to behead. But it is clearly seen that my family is ignorant about the demons lurking every night and how many did it kill. Im still not even sure if there are demons in this place. We're pretty much isolated in here, which makes it kinda lonely. The nearest town nearby will probably be a day walk onto the other side of the mountain.
"Ahh yeah, I nearly forgot!" My dad remebered as he stop in his tracks. "My father once told me its name"
"Well what is it? I asked to which he only snickered
"Nevermelt Ice"
The following day proceeds normally. Woke up early practice swinging an axe for wood then sword after while using a stick as a medium. Breakfast then hunt with my father to stockpile resources, lunch, then free time helping my parents in any way they need while trying to master breathing technique constant. I tried to get some more information about the Nevermelt Ice, asking for records preserved by our family to which my father answered that the history is only passed through the word of mouth. I dont even know why I thought of making it into a sword to be honest. Probably just because I wanted a real sword that can cut. Even if I manage to make it into a sword it wouldnt work against demon. I remebered that the sword that the demon slaying corps use are special swords called nichirin sword. Unique sword that is bathe by sunlight or i think which gives them the power to kill demons by beheading. Sun and Ice, a complete opposite of uses which makes it useless for demon slaying activities. Or is it? Something in my gut tells me that this is something special that will be a huge help if used right. Although finding the use for it will be a challenge. Figuring its something I cant control, I just ignored it and focus on mastering breathing technique constant. In canon, Tanjiro and the others mastered this at the age of 15 or 16 i think, so Im way ahead of the since Im only 13. Im not even sure if im in the same age as Tanjiro and his gang or is someone much older such as Rengoku and the others. Anyway, whatever happens I'll still save people that I can save. Big words for someone who'll experience quite a situation
How do you like the story guys! This is just the prologue, you know to get the feel and setting of the story. Next chapter will be where the action will be. What do you think about the Nevermelt Ice? Are our minds on the same page on what I plan on doing for that stone? Please write your reviews on what you think about the story. Constructive comments are welcomed since it will help me improve as well that will make you enjoy the story more. Another thing is that english is my 2nd language so there will be gramatical errors or sometimes spelling, dont worry though Ill do my best to fix it
To be honest this is just a story that I had in my mind for a long time and felt that its kinda good (atleast in my opinion). So i decided why not spread to others and you know see where my imagination will take us. Anyway, this is purely made as a hobby not as a passion so updates will probably be hard since I still have a lot of things needed to be fixed. But if this story gets a lot of positive reviews then Ill be motivated to write a new chapter.
Anyway thats that so Ill see you in the next chapter! Thank you and stay safe!
