Chapter 1: Breaking the skyes

Tokyo 3, year 2030, during the 4th impact

"Shit! That brat has actually pulled out the spears!" Asuka shouted as she watched unit 13 fly up in the air, outside of Terminal dogma.

She has just managed to get her unit back up and running after Mari had tossed her some extra batteries, though it would be hard even for her to reach the awakened evangelion which was currently floating at around five thousand meters.

Still, she managed to get back to the surface not too long after, seeing how the Wunder in the distance was flying faster and faster to try and ram unit 13.

Suddenly her entry plug was filled with Misato's voice as she said:

"Asuka, Mari! We're about to fly low so that you can get on top of the ship. Then when we ram unit 13 you get the two entry plugs out!"

"Roger Misato, nya! Let's go princess." Mari said as the two of them exited the crack in the ground and ran towards the lower wing.

In space, over the site of fourth impact

"Critical damage to the ship's navigation system, we are on a crash course towards… Wait… VEGA I've never seen this planet where are we?!"

Samuel Hayden shouted as the Doom Slayer was trying to not destroy the ship after the faulty portal in Urdak had fried their engines.

"I do not know doctor Hayden, there is no mention of this planet in my files, I am examining the situation at the moment.

Although it almost feels… familiar…

Also we are going to crash in forty seconds."

On the Wunder

"God dammit why won't you die you stupid doll!"

Asuka shouted as sge and Mari kept up the fight against the evangelion mark 9, which had flown on top of the ship to stop them.

"I do not understand what is happening, I was ordered to protect Ikari."

Rei said as she sat motionless inside the entry plug after a strange program had taken it over, making the word SEELE glow red all over her interface.

Currently the mark 9 had fused itself to the wing Asuka and Mari were standing on.

Using its scythe to hold off the two units and forcing the Wunder to slow down.

Inside unit 13

"K-Kaworu what is happening? Huh?! The collar! It's doing something!"

And as the pale boy looked down near his neck, he said:

"I guess that I failed, unit 13 can't work without both of us, I'm sorry Shinji.

But do not worry, I will still be able to be with you even after the collar activates thanks to our high synchronization rate."

"W-wait Kaworu what do you mea-"

*Warning, two targets approaching at high speed.*

The color of both entry plugs began flashing red after the system had relayed the message, which confused both pilots. They understood that one of them was the Wunder… both what about the other one?

They didn't have time to elaborate on that as they felt a sharp pain coming from their chests when the giant ship crashed into them at full force.

Feeling that the collar was about to explode, Kaworu shouted at the boy:

"Shinji, listen to me!

These last few days I've spent with you have been the best in my life Shinji, you are the best person I've ever met on this planet and even though I might die now, if you follow my voice I'll help you be happy!

Can you promise me that Shinji?"

"Kaworu…. I-I-I don't know what to do!"

And as the collar turned red, a hole appeared in the circular structure of the doors of Guf, quickly filled by the free-falling Fortress of Doom.

Which was headed straight towards the tip of the Wunder and its left wing.

"Just follow my advice Shinji and you will be safe, promise me this, okay?

Every time you feel uncomfortable, scared or lost, my voice will be there to help you, alright?"

Shinji nodded with his face full of tears while looking down and just as he raised his eyes, he was met by Kaworu's entire body exploding in guts and blood in front of him.

A part of his left brain flew directly towards Shinji's face, stopped only by his entry plug's physical walls.

Throughout the entire process, he hadn't closed his eyes, making sure those images would be imprinted in his memory.

Wunder, main bridge

"Load the Anti AT field shells! There isn't much time left!" Captain Katsuragi shouted as she held onto a railing to not fall down due to her ship's vibrations while they kept going at full speed with unit 13 on their bow.

Suddenly though a giant signal appeared on the radar and so the pink haired Midori Kitakami shouted:

"Another object has appeared! It's coming towards us from above!"

So Misato shouted:

"Shit, Nagara dodge to the right!"

"I can't! The weight of the evangelions has blocked out movement! We're going to be hit and there's nothing I can do!"

"Prepare for impact!" Ritsuko shouted as the Fortress of Doom crashed into them with its argent shield covered in flames.

Given the angle at which it was falling, it hit directly the nose of the Wunder, yet because of the curved shape of the red barrier, it deviated to the left.

All the four evangelions were hit and the ship suffered serious damage.

The mark 9 was completely obliterated, along with the rest of the wing under it, yet Rei had managed to save herself by ejecting after thinking that she couldn't have protected Shinji if she died now.

Unit 02 got its limbs cut off since it was so close to the mark 9 and Asuka ejected because of the pain.

Then unit 08's arms were impaled by the twisted metal of the ship's wing, severing the neural circuits and locking Mari in that position.

Finally, unit 13's back had been completely broken and while Kaworu's entry plug was crushed, Shinji's one fell out of the unit, but without the security ejection system activating.

And as the thunder from the Fortress of Doom's landing was heard, Misato ordered her crew to get out of there as none of them would have survived if the Wunder crashed in this area.

Behind them, the doors of Guf closed, while being watched by a very curious artificial intelligence.

Outside of Asuka's entry plug, a minute later

When Asuka finally managed to calm down after the landing and regain composure she was able to get up from her seat and extend an arm forward, opening the plug's hatch.

The setting sun was shining right on her only good eye, annoying her enough to make her climb out despite not knowing where she had landed nor if she was in danger.

"Well, at least my retina isn't burning anymore, but now…

How do I get down from this wrecked house?

Hmm, that failed infinity arm looks good, I should be able to slide down it."

So, after taking her survival kit, she jumped into the top of the curved hand and then used the slope to slowly glide down to safety.

She looked around once more, finding only the ruins of what once was one of the if not the largest city in the world.

Now it was only covered in red core material and damaged by fourteen years of conflict and abandonment.

"All because of that stupid fucking bra-"

Her thought stopped mid sentence as she noticed a long white cylinder in the distance. Even though she had no depth perception, she could tell that it was far bigger than her own entry plug, meaning that it was from the dual entry system.

And it was also twisted at a weird angle, with various metal poles cutting right through it as it leaked both LCL… and a thin line of red liquid.

"That baka, he can't even land correctly!

Serves him right, he did just try to kill the entire world again after all."

Despite her opinion and her thoughts on the boy, she still kept getting closer to him, even though a large part of her was almost forcing her to run away.

"I mean seriously how the hell did he fail that landing? Even if he doesn't do anything, all entry plugs have systems that ensure a safe landing for the pilot… if there aren't any ceilings around, which there weren't.

So why di-

Wait.

The exhaust nozzles for the emergency propulsors are completely clean, which meant that no propellant had been used and if that's the case then it could also mean that the entry plugs' system didn't activate…

Which also means no softened landing, no parachute, no secondary emergency ejection, no LCL filtration, no shock compensation, no emergency recovery beacon-.

And there is blood and metal poles going through the plug.

Oh shit."

She immediately started running towards the white cylinder, ignoring how much pain her still recovering body felt and failing to notice the black plug suit wearing girl following her.

Less than twenty seconds later she was already on top of the plug, trying to force the deformed hatch open with all of her strength.

Unfortunately for how much she had trained and fought these last years, her body still had limitations. So, when her patience dried up, she took out her emergency pistol and landed a shot right in the locking mechanism.

She pushed the metal plate away, breathing heavily as she scanned the inside of the plug while the LCL flowed out.

He was lying there unconscious, with what looked like tears right under his eyes.

His body was mostly fine, though his left arm was bleeding and as she looked further down, she saw a piece of sharp metal coming out from the left side of his abdomen.

For a moment she felt like her heart had shot itself as all of her thoughts except the ones regarding him disappeared.

She jumped into the plug and carefully pulled him out, almost getting a heart attack when she saw the amount of blood coming out of the open wound.

When she came back to the metal surface of the plug, she placed down Shinji and began treating his wound.

She worked with constant precision, trying to remember every notion that Sakura had taught her a few years before when the intensity of the missions began to increase.

Asuka completed all the steps using the limited resources of her first aid kit, but suddenly she realized that she didn't have anything to fix the bandages to keep them in place.

So, seeing how his plug suit was already damaged, she took out her knife and cut away a piece of it all around his body.

With this she managed to fix the bandages and subsequently dropped down onto the plug exhausted.

She looked up at the sky tinted by the setting sun which was showing no signs of the battle that had occurred just minutes earlier.

But she couldn't rest for long as soon a mass of blue hair and pale skin obstructed her vision, making her let out a tired sigh.

"What do you want?" Asuka asked as she gripped her knife harder.

"I saw that he was in danger and given your reaction, I believed I could help in the operation by bringing you supplies you had left in your entry plug.

It seems that the heavy cargo has slowed me down too much to be of any help, but I'm thankful that you were able to operate him on your own.

May I ask why though? You seemed quite intent on ending his life during the battle"

Asuka moved her torso up as she sat while grabbing her knees and said:

"What a stupid question, instead why aren't you attacking us? So that you can make your daddy happy"

"I was not ordered to do that, only to protect Ikari"

Silence fell for a moment between the two, before suddenly a grunt was heard to their side and they turned their attention back to Shinji.

He slowly opened his eyes and as he came back to reality, his heart began beating faster and faster.

Images from what had transpired in the entry plug flashed in front of him as he recoiled in fear and shock from watching the only person who had helped him explode into blood and guts.

He began hyperventilating, until he was too tired to continue and almost fell asleep another time. If it wasn't for Asuka pulling him down the entry plug and towards the temporary camp she wanted to set up with the resources Rei had brought back.

None of them noticed the small drone looking at them from the top of a nearby rooftop as it reactivated its engines to follow them.

Inside a crater

"The repairs are going smoothly, although they will take a while given the extent of the damage… Why don't you try to go inside this city, Slayer? Maybe you can find more information about our crash site.

VEGA has also provided you with the location of those children we spotted earlier, I would try to wait until they have settled down before trying to communicate with them.

I will not be joining you as I have to supervise the repairs, good luck out there"

And with that Samuel Hayden watched as the Slayer got outside of the ship and entered the ruined city.

As the green armored man disappeared behind the red buildings, Samuel turned around and asked VEGA:

"Still nothing?"

"The navigation system has been damaged heavily by the crash and it is currently impossible for me to estimate our location.

Although based on the facial structure and language of the children we observed earlier I would say that we are somewhere within Japan.

A theory also supported by the design and position of the buildings near us.

Although I believe that this will only be confirmed if you Slayer can find a road sign or something like that."

A short grunt of approval was heard from the other side of the line, then Samuel asked again:

"Alright, that's at least something, anything else VEGA?"

"The air composition is different from the one on our Earth even though the planet's structure seems practically identical.

This seems to be caused by the strange soil releasing micro particles of an orange liquid which is showing peculiar characteristics.

The axis of the planet is also different, as well as the position of the moon.

This, along with the other signs around us, makes me believe that this version of Earth has gone through a cataclysmic event of enormous proportions."

"Could it be connected to the situation we interrupted with our descent?"

"Most likely, I will continue to analyze the area around us while the repair drones are at work, I will also try to analyze visual clues from the Slayer's visor.

Should I send out a medical drone to aid those children?"

"We are a bit too busy right now and I need all the drones I can to fix the ship, plus they seem to have some medical supplies themselves.

Maybe later, once we have established contact with them."

"Understood."

"I'll be at the lower part of the hull if you need me VEGA"

So Samuel left the ship and jumped down to the red terrain, looking at it for a while before approaching the damaged section.

Seeing this, VEGA connected to the Slayer's helmet and began to search for clues on their position.

"Alright…

The text is definitely Japanese, though so far I've only seen shop signs and road names hmm…"

And so VEGA said:

"Slayer, there is a major street nearby, of you follow it you might be able to find a way to the larger streets outside the city.

Once there I believe that our chances will increase."

A short grunt was his answer and so the Ai continued:

"Also… with all of the destruction around us… it reminds me a bit of our Earth, don't you agree?"

There was no answer this time.

A couple of minutes passed, with the Slayer running around the city at an average speed of 45 km/h, giving both him and VEGA ample time to observe the various details of the world around them.

"You are coming up on the place where the children have settled, slow down or they might hear you Slayer."

And so he did, noticing how there were only a couple hundred meters between him and the small group's camp.

Curious to find out more, the Slayer began to slowly go around corners and ruins; searching for a good observation point given that the drone VEGA had sent out earlier had to return to the ship to recharge.

At the small tent

"Pass me the hammer again, this is the last thing I need to fix."

A moment later Rei gave the tool to Asuka and she used it to finish setting up their emergency tent, which should have lasted long enough for Shinji to recover and be able to walk again without falling every three or four steps.

Nearby the boy was laying on his healthy side, trying to not apply any pressure to the wound on his left.

His eyes felt heavy and his entire body was feeling walker by the second, with the hunger and pain from his wound pushing him to close his eyes one final time.

"Shinji, can you hear me?"

Shinji? It's me Kaworu."

"Wait… you're in my head! How?! I saw you explode! The choker sho-"

"I was able to transfer my consciousness into your mind thanks to our extremely high synch ratio.

Unfortunately I cannot talk too much in this state, for now I will tell you this: remember, you are in danger around Shikinami, did you see how much she wanted to kill you during the fight?

Since for now you can't defend yourself, let's just hope that she is merciful to you, try following what she says to increase your chances.

I will contact you again as soon as I can."

"No wait Kaworu don't-...

He's gone again… but he will come back…

In the meantime I will do what he sa-

Is there someone up there?"

Suddenly he noticed something, a dark spot in a distant building that had too much contrast with the other colors of the area to just be a piece of debris.

He just had time to close his eyes for a moment and it was gone.

He couldn't think about it very much as Asuka's voice brought him back to reality:

"Brat get up! We have to eat now."

He did so, almost failing at first because his right arm was still weakened, but in the end he managed to get up and slowly walk towards the tent.

Once inside he saw Asuka and Rei already eating their food and looking down he saw a bowl of the same substance at his feet.

Remembering Kaworu's words he sat down not without letting out a quiet of pain and then he began eating, though it was more like forcing food down his throat given how horrible it tasted.

As he placed his trail down, a sudden crash was heard in the distance, alerting all three of them.

"W-w-What h-happened?" Shinji asked with a trembling voice as Asuka got closer to the zip of the tent, she opened it and looked outside, then she said:

"A building fell down, probably because of the damage you did to it by almost triggering the fourth impact you brat."

Shinji remained silent as he let out a small sob ,when suddenly he heard Kaworu's voice:

"See Shinji? You have to be wary of her, she wants you dead, look at how she is accusing you of something that isn't your fault.

She wants nothing to do with you, she just wants to go back to the Wunder and throw you into a cell to rot, but if you follow my advice, that won't happen."

"O-okay Kaworu."

Suddenly Ayanami spoke up:

"I do not believe that to be the case Shikinami, it could also have been caused by a collision with a NERV patrol drone."

"What!? Those things are still around?!"

"I believe so, I have seen them operate in the area of the city and in the desert to search for either survivors or explorers to terminate."

Hearing this Asuka's face went pale as the memories of seeing the machines in action resurfaced, how they searched for innocent people and then tore them apart with the brutality only a machine could convey.

So she said:

"Then we have to get out of here as soon as possible, pack your things, the longer we stay here the higher is our chance of being detected."

Ayanami nodded and grabbed her bag, putting some food in it while Shinji simply stayed still with a blank face as Asuka's words echoed in his head.

Which was soon grabbed by her hands as she said:

"Get up idiot, I'll take your stuff since you can't walk properly, but at least try to not get us killed."

Shinji remained still for a bit more, but as soon as Asuka moved to slap him, he began trying to get up.

Only the second attempt was successful.

They got out of the tent and Asuka took out a small device which looked like some sort of GPS, then she said:

"I know a settlement near here where the L barrier is low enough for life to… Exist, so we're going there, no objections.

Also from now on for you I'm Captain Shikinami, Rei is Doll and Shinji is Brat.

Now let's go, I don't want to be torn to pieces "

None of them said anything as they began to walk away, except for Shinji who was looking at the destroyed building:

"Asu- Captain Shikinami… I-I believe that I saw someone in that destroyed building before it fell."

"Cut your crap brat, we are the only ones here, plus if there was someone there now they are dead.

Now shut up or we'll be detected."

So they left the area and headed nord-west and once they were gone a green suit of armor walked away from behind a nearby corner.

"That was close, the boy even managed to notice you Slayer, plus it seems that the structural integrity of the building wasn't sufficient for supporting your weight.

Anyway, based on what 'Asuka Shikinami' has said and my own analysis, the microparticles of the liquid emanated by the ground create what she called an 'L barrier'.

This phenomenon seems to block or kill all organic life over differing periods of time depending on its concentration, however your suit is able to protect you from this effect.

The drones on the other hand seem a much more serious and urgent issue, thankfully though Samuel has been able to repair the motion scanners and I have detected one of these drones on a route to intercept them.

I doubt that they have the capabilities to defend themselves judging by their haste in leaving the area, so I believe that you could provide cover without being detected if you attack the drone before it reaches its target.

Don't worry about us, the shield is still working at full power and the weapons are almost online again too."

The Slayer let out a determined grunt as he loaded his super shotgun and began running towards the machine.

Sometime later, in another part of the city

"Be silent you two, I heard the shots come from around here… I still don't know what it was, but we have to see if it was like a survivor or something similar, it would help us tremendously."

Asuka said as she guided the two of them through the corners of the city and then down a long road.

At one of its intersections lay a destroyed scouting drone, whose body was clearly showing lots of round holes in one of the sides.

Once they finally managed to get close to it after making sure that it was dead, Asuka began to inspect the damage.

"About twenty to thirty small round bullet holes, it could be a rifle, but we only heard two shots, meaning that it was from a shotgun of sorts, still, what kind of caliber is it?

These drones are hard to kill with small conventional weapons and even rifles and shotguns take a bit… So what the hell killed it in just two shots?

Anyway… the holes still seem fresh and given their angle the shooter fired from the left of our current position, so if I turn around I should be able to-"

"Captain, I have found something, two red cartridges." Rei suddenly said, interrupting Asuka's thoughts.

"Do not move from where you are, I want to see them."

Asuka replied as she got up and walked towards her, trying her hardest to make her heart ignore the hurt Shinji sitting at the side of the road.

When she finally got there though, she took the two tubes in her hands and said:

"These things… are enormous! There isn't a single weapon in Willie's troop arsenal that uses this kind of shell and the weight too, even when empty they feel almost as heavy as a fully loaded smaller one…"

"There are also unknown incisions on the back."

Rei added, making Asuka turn the cartridge around and look at its golden back with her eye.

On the back of it in the external part various strange symbols had been carved along with a larger one in the centre made up of five lines which intersect to form an anchor or sword shape.

"Maybe someone at the Wunder will be able to decipher them, for now though I'll just put them in my backpack."

As she was placing the second cartridge inside a bottle of water fell down, making her look down to pick it up and it was then that she saw two big boot trails near them.

"From the size of the feet it's probably a man, a rather large one too, I mean the trail itself is around two times my own foot."

Asuka said as she placed her feet at the centre of the trails, quickly noticing how far apart they were, meaning that this man was tall too.

"A-captain."

Then she looked closer and noticed that they were pretty deep for being foot trails, meaning that this man or what he was carrying was very heavy.

"...captain."

"Not now brat I'm thinking."

"Dammit Shinji, can you at least not call for others' attention for a moment? I'm trying to think now.

Alright so, we were on the Wunder fighting against the mark 09 when suddenly a large red oval thing came crashing down on us, damaging all the evas and forcing the Wunder to leave.

"Captain" Shinji said.

"Then, not too long after we find clues of an armed man roaming an hostile and deserted city with enough firepower to take down in two hits a very tough enemy…"

"Captain!" Shinji said louder, almost shouting.

"Finally we find that he uses weapons that we don't know and that are much more powerful than ours, along with the strange incisions probably confirming that he's not from Earth…

And I thought that the angels were the only alien bastards we would have had to dea-"

"Asuka!" Shinji said loudly while putting a hand on her shoulder.

This made her turn around immediately and ready to strike him with her fury, but she noticed his finger pointing down the street first, right at an enemy drone that was scanning some debris.

Shinji didn't have time to reopen his eyes as his trembling arms were moved away from their protective stance as Asuka dragged both him and Rei inside the closest open building.

They entered a ruined restaurant, which was once called Araki's tavern and they went to hide behind the counter, with Shikinami hoping that they had been fast enough.

The slow humming of the drone's engines got louder and louder as it kept flying down the street and getting closer to them every second that passed. Shining its green scanning light all around the area and the buildings.

Suddenly it stopped and all three of the pilots felt their hearts stop when the green light passed over their heads and slowly descended towards them.

They were covered visually by the counter, but the corrupted wood couldn't fool the drone's thermal camera, which detected them and made it enter into assault mode, letting out a deep sequence of noises.

This sequence was suddenly cut short though as a powerful gunshot was heard and the robot crashed into the ground..

The pilots turned around and saw the damaged drone struggling on the ground as it tried in vain to get back in the air.

They then heard the sound of something heavy being launched and a second later a flaming chain was stuck into the robot's body.

The Doom Slayer fell on the robot, blasting it away with the super shotgun while the pilots watched with their mouths open.

What now remained of the machine couldn't even be considered scrap metal, so the gigantic buff man turned around to look at the trio, but unfortunately for him the robot had managed to send out a distress signal.

A theory onfirmed by the orchestra of sounds that came from behind a corner in the street.

For a split second though, all the pilots were able to see his furious face full of scars as his sight seemed to go through and destroy any kind of bravery they had been able to build up until then.

Which is why Asuka shouted as soon as he was busy dealing with the other robots:

"Let's get out of here! Quickly!"

"But Asu-" Shinji tried to reply, yet it was cut short by the girl grabbing him violently and causing a reaction from his injury, forcing him to gulp down the cry of pain.

She first brought him to the kitchen, with Ayanami following right behind them and from there they ended up in a dark alley where a single drone was waiting for them at the end.

Asuka took out her emergency gun, but as she focused her eye to take aim she suddenly realized that she had never seen this kind of drone and it wasn't attacking them, even though they were looking at each other.

"Maybe it's deactivated? No it wouldn't be flying otherwise, so it's damaged? Unlikely too, they have their core systems very well protected…

Ah who cares, a dead drone is better than an operational one"

She gripped her gun again, but just as her finger layed on the trigger, she heard a voice coming from the drone:

"I don't want to attack you, can you please put that gun away?"

The fact that not only it replied, but it also did it in perfect Japanese shocked Asuka

Though that wasn't enough for her to lay off her only weapon so quickly, instead she stood still and waited.

"I understand that you might believe that this is a trap, after all I am a using the same machine that you were so worried about a second ago

But if you were to give me some time to explain while the Slayer takes care of the rest of the drones it will all be made clearer to you. Asuka."

Immediately she gripped her weapon again and shouted while the gunshots and explosions in the distance began to die down:

"How do you know that name!? Have you been spying on us!? Are you from NERV!?"

"What is NERV?" the drone replied, making Asuka immediately lower her gun for a moment as she said:

"This is a joke right? I'm not in the mood for jokes right now"

"Miss we crashed on this planet for less than a day now, unfortunately we still do not know what NERV is.

Although it seems to be the company that is manufacturing the other drones given that we have found a mark with this word on them."

"Wait, what did you say about the planet?" Asuka asked, given that the voice had glitched a bit during the speech.

"Sorry, let me give you more information:

At exactly 17:03 our ship was sucked into a portal that transported us to this other version of Earth, during our re-entry two minutes later we apparently crashed into other flying vessels, landing in the southern part of the city near what seems to be a large park.

We apologize for the inconvenient crash, but our ship's movement capabilities had been damaged by the interdimensional trip, although from my analysis we seem to have stopped an event of some kind."

"Yes, you stopped the world from ending a second time." Asuka replied, getting only silence as a response until the drone said again:

"I am glad.

However we seem to have caused some side effects too, your companion Shinji right there presents a serious injury in his left abdomen.

I have brought a medical drone nearby so that we can treat him."

"He's not my companion, he's a prisoner of war, he was the one who was trying to end the world just a moment ago."

"Did you hear her? She still gives you the blame for what we were tricked into doing." Kaworu suddenly told Shinji as the sounds from the fight nearby finally ended.

"Still he needs to be treated immediately to prevent further damage to his internal organs and eventual death, since the Slayer has been able to repel the drone menace, we are inviting you to our ship as we have plenty of supplies to ensure your safety."

"Alright alright… we're coming to your ship Uhm…"

"You may call me VEGA, the artificial intelligence that resides within the vessel.

The man you saw in action before is the Doom Slayer, more a title than an actual name."

Then Ayanami asked:

"Does he not have one?"

VEGA stopped turning around for a moment and said:

"He definitely has one, although it is unknown to us."

As he said that, another different drone appeared from the street as it flew close to Shinji while detaching some tubes from under its body.

"The tubes need to be inserted manually in proximity to the wound.

From there they will deliver a substance to the body which will allow for faster tissue regeneration."

After VEGA said this, Asuka crouched down next to the boy who was keeping his eyes barely open.

During the escape through the kitchen in fact, some sharp utensils hit his body and damaged the suit, making the bandages loosen and reopening the wound.

Still, he almost jumped when Asuka attached a tube to his stomach after perforating his skin. This tube then began glowing blue and a moment later Shinji's cut started healing at an extraordinarily fast pace.

"The drone will remain attached while we walk and the faster we get to our ship the safer we will be. Follow me as I have found the best path given our current condition."

Asuka and Rei got up, but Shinji remained on the ground instead with a dead and empty look on his face.

This infuriated Asuka as she violently picked him up and told him while holding his chin:

"Can't you at least be respectful to someone who decided to help you unconditionally!?"

A sudden image of Kaworu flashed in Shinji's mind and after a couple of seconds, Asuka let him go, seeing how he was able to stand on his own now.

So the four of them began their trip back to the fortress and after a while VEGA said:

"Actually, we do ask you one thing from you that you most certainly have."

"And that is?" Asuka replied

"Information, about everything."

"Sure, as long as you help us."

"Perfect."

With this silence took over, interrupted only by the faint sounds that their plug suits made on contact with the ground.

And in the distance, Asuka began to start seeing a strange tower impose itself on the other buildings.

So she thought as her mind piled up everything that had happened in that day:

"What the fuck have I gotten myself into?"

A/N:

"Whaaat? An author's note at the end of the chapter? What did you do to the old Greg!" one of my readers would probably ask, or not…

Anyway I wanted to try putting them down here for once since a lot of people do it already and tell me readers, do you prefer it like this or how it is in broken heroes? (Basically before the chapter starts)

I'd be glad to receive your input and if you could also leave a review of this first chapter for a new story I would be grateful.

It's going to be shorter than Broken Heroes, though I hope that it will be liked anyway.

That is all and see you next time, Greg out.
