Alexander Springfield was dead, killed protecting one of his juniors from a dangerous supervillain and upon crossing the valley of in the shadow of death. Alexander met God, and the Almighty gave him a second chance at life. However, things are not as they seem as Alexander journeys alone in this brave new world.
Will Alexander continue to be the Hero he always strived to be? Or will he lose himself with the bitterness in his heart?
Part of the Untold Universe.
Hello everyone, both new and old readers.
I am ZXEmperor, formerly known as LordXG3, and I welcome you to my newest side project, which was born after seeing one of the most boring shows I have ever seen. That and my best friend's challenge to write a fanfic with improvements to the story.
Mind you; I'm not an Isekai hater. I usually find something to enjoy about even some relatively bland shows (with a few minor exceptions), and IAWWMS is one of them. Honestly, my biggest issue with the series is the main character, Touya, who, dear lord, is honestly one of the most boring protagonists I have seen. Anyways, this project is to put my money where my mouth is and see if I could, in fact, write a better character than Touya and, in large, make a more relatable and engaging story.
Now, I need to set a couple of things for context.
The character Alexander Springfield was a minor OC I created for the My Hero Academia Story I've been writing since 2018. He was a very minor character that became very popular for some goddamn reason.
(Ironically, several of my OCs for that story has been praised for their use. Especially without crashing on the spotlight for the canon characters and making their powers reasonable with additional lore and world-building.)
Now there are two versions of this story.
The first version was simply known as The Fafnir Knight, which started in September of 2018.
The second version, My Hero Academia Untold: The Fafnir Knight, started about seven months later after gaining some experience writing and restarted the story with a refreshed direction.
In the original version, Alex was set to die during the events of the USJ.
(If you're not familiar with MHA, that's okay. It's not too important for this story. The only essential part to know is that it was a training day that got party crashed by a bunch of villains)
However, with the Untold version, I had decided to spare Alex. (Not because of his popularity, but because it would have impacted the story in a tonal direction that I was unhappy with) However, I still decided to write out the character as was always my intention.
Now, what does this have to do with this story?
Welp, this story is basically what would have happened to Alex if I had gone through with my original plans and killed him off. The twist here is that he would take Touya's place for the series. Yet, for readers familiar with my works, you know I love doing twists and turns on the story to keep it fresh for fans.
This will be no different.
Do not rely on canon and expect more than a handful of hopefully enjoyable twists from the original. Finally, I will be aging up most of the girls. Alex is/was 18(when he died in this version of events), and I take issue with even thinking of paring him up with most of the ladies of this series at their canon ages.
On that note, I might switch up a few girls from the series and transplant characters from other anime to come along for the ride. (And you may suggest girls to be introduced.) I usually don't like harems, but given a lot of bullshit, I put Alex through and will continue to put him through in my mainline series.
This was my way of cutting the guy some slack.
(But he's still going to work for it in this story)
In Another World With My Smartphone: The Lost Hero
Prologue: Memento Mori
"Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart."
― Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius, The Meditations
The rain poured, the wind whipped, and lightning flashed as the battle continued within the grounds of the USJ Downpour Zone.
Blink was getting tired in his fight against the villain known as Pit Viper.
His Quirk was beginning to strain his eyes. Add the fatigue and increasingly sore limbs thanks to the extra gear he was wearing without a chance to remove it. And he was fighting a losing battle. For every hit he landed on Pit Viper, he received two or more neat slices, which only cost him more stamina and pain. The Assassin had proven that he wasn't a pushover, having the skills and talent to match up with Blink's increased speed even when using his Powers.
"You're getting slower, boy! So much for me being a so-called 'discount Stain.'" The man mocked as he continued to slash across the heavy rains. At the same time, Blink answered by blocking with his armored gloves. Unable retort due to trying to maintain a current rhythm of circular breathing, which could be interrupted with one of his usual smart-ass quips.
'Damn it! I can't use my special move like this!' Blink thought as he tried to think of a way to regain his initial edge at the beginning of their fight. Alex thought he saw a brief opening. He went in for a wide punch, only to miscalculate his reach and allow the villain to duck and make a sweeping kick, knocking him off his feet into the red water. Pit Viper rose up and struck the foreign boy in the shoulder with his fang-like blade without hesitation.
"ARGH!" Blink screamed out as the blade sunk deep into his body and straight into the bone.
"TIME TO DIE, BOY!" The villain roared as he brought down the second blade going for the kill. Suddenly, he was hit by a pair of horns slamming into his left side. "WHAT THE HELL ARE THESE THINGS?!"
'What?' Thought Blink as he felt the blade retreat and realized that he wasn't dead yet; then he saw the familiar flying horns causing the villain's distraction. 'Wait...those are...' Upon seeing his chance, Blink used the distraction to get up and gain some distance to remove his heavier unneeded gear. He managed to spot his savior thanks to his distant eyesight. 'Poni!'
"I'LL CARVE OUT YOUR VERY SOUL BITCH!" Unfortunately, Pit Viper had also noticed the new interloper and made a beeline for her. Knocking the sets of flying horns aside and making a sprint with his blades at the ready. The girl had lost the element of surprise and didn't expect the speed the villain was able to run as he made his way toward her.
Her headache only worsened as she tried to regain control of her horns. However, fear started to seep into Poni as she could see the wrath and malice that radiated off the man's face. While she couldn't understand his threat, she knew he meant business. Blink removed the heavier pieces of his support gear and finally removed his mask, making the conditions to use his special move Blitz possible. 'No time for second guesses; it's do or die!'
It all happened in an instant.
"DIE!" The villain roared, bringing down his blades on the confused and terrified girl. Only to have an unmasked Blink suddenly appear in a blue flash right in front of him, shielding her.
'What...?' This word would serve as the Assassin's final thought as his blades pierced through the foreign boy, caught off-guard by the lad's newfound speed and not knowing it would be the last thing he would ever see. Poni screamed as a pair of red-stained blades appeared through her Senior's body as time seemed to have stood still. Her brain still processing the sight of Blink and Pit Viper collapsing in front of her within a second.
Blink had been ready to take the hit and use the opening to counterattack. He used those few vital nanoseconds of adrenaline-fueled focus to help guide one of the blades into a less lethal area of his body with his left hand. However, Blink's right hand rocketed into a vicious, Mach-speed right hook that connected right into the villain's left cheek.
SLAM, SNAP!
Unfortunately, the build-up had been too strong. The villain's neck completely turned one hundred and eighty degrees snapping his neck and killing him instantly.
Blink, no, Alexander couldn't feel the lower half of his body, save for the stinging pain from his eyes from overusing his Quirk. That and the pain from the blades sticking from his left lung and stomach. In reality, he mostly felt the harsh rain pelting his face. He struggled to breathe as the familiar metallic taste of blood flooded his taste buds.
His focus was already fading, hell; he was sure he could see the Specter of Death, already standing next to him, ready to take his soul to the afterlife.
"Alex!" Poni screamed in English as she knelt by his side with tears pouring down her eyes. "Speak to me, please!"
"Poni..." Alex managed to grasp out in English. He remembered that she still had trouble speaking Japanese when they had spoken briefly after the battle trial.
"I'm sorry, save yourself and just leave me here..." He added before trying to point down the street, only to be surprised by the re-appearance of Eijirou and Mina running down the road towards them. Alex silently cursed himself; they didn't need to see this; they didn't need to deal with the trauma of his final moments.
"Help him please!" Poni shouted at the two, not realizing she had gone back to English. Her hands shook as Alex was already starting to be losing consciousness.
"Springfield!" Eijirou yelled out, kneeling down to his senior's level, while Mina stopped a few feet away with a look of horror. It didn't take long for Alex to see that the water pooling around him was already a deep scarlet. He was losing volumes of blood by the second. It wouldn't be much longer until his remaining time on this earth would be over.
"Damn it...Rockman...Ashido...why are you...back here? I told you...I had it...covered..." Alex managed to say in Japanese, between painfully wheezing breaths and haggard bloody coughs. Yet, he managed to make a bloody grin as Eijirou helped Poni sit him up carefully.
"We got to get him out of here!" Said Mina as she started going to grab Alex's legs. "It will be quick if we all work together!"
"Save yourselves...don't worry about me..."
"I'm sorry!" Eijirou cried out as he and Mina tried to lift Alex up as carefully as possible. "Back-up wasn't coming yet! I...We couldn't just stand there waiting...I'm so sorry."
"Put him on me!" said Poni as she got on all fours, her costume adjusted to allow someone to literally ride her like a horse. "I carry him! You keep him steady!"
"Donno what you're being sorry abou...I just did...what heroes should do, right? Just go...and be safe...I...ain't dying...yet." Alex answered, trying to ease their worries as the duo worked together to seat him on Poni. Alex's head slumped forward as he continued losing strength; it didn't matter; he was too far gone. His chances of survival at this rate would be nearly zero, but they didn't need to know that.
"Alex, please just save your strength..."
"We're not far from help, Springfield!"
"Just hang on, bro...We, we're going to save you!"
Even at the very end, Alex was determined to keep up a front for them. Despite his personal regrets about dying so soon, at the very least, protecting his juniors wasn't going to be one of them; he had done his job. And even as the Specter of Death began to follow them, silently and invisible to everyone but him.
Alex had already accepted his fate.
"Just watch guys...I'm still owed money...ya know? Can't die yet...not til' I collect," Alex slowly managed to turn his head on Poni's hair to address his quiet, surprisingly beautiful companion. "How else am...gonna bribe...reaper when she...comes...me...for real, right...? I...too ugly...to seduce...her...heheh."
Eijirou's face turned to stone as he watched the blue glow from Alex's eyes start fading.
"Hey...Miss Reaper...I know this sounds pathetic..." Alex softly called out in English with a bloody chuckle, inching his hand up as high as he could at the empty space next to him. "Please hold this sad virgin's hand? If I have to die today, I'd like to at least go out holding a pretty girl's hand."
"You hold his hand!" Poni told Mina as tears flowed down her face, as the two other teenagers couldn't understand Alex's rambling. "Please..."
Mina did as she was told, gently grabbing the foreigner's cold, clammy hand. She did her best to be a comfort to her foreign companion, hoping that this act of gentle compassion could ease the boy's pain. She felt his hand close upon her own.
"Thanks..." Alex finished with a smile as darkness overcame his eyes, and he saw no more.
The young American no longer felt the stinging pain in his eyes nor the pain from the blades that had struck his body at the end. He felt at ease, despite being alone in complete darkness. Yet, he could still feel his senses at work, though he could not see anything, hear anything, smell or taste. Even his sense of touch was off; he was lying down, but not on anything solid. There were no words to describe this strange sensation surrounding him other than it was strange.
"So...I guess this is it."
Alex thought to himself after an unknown amount of time had passed, figuring that this was likely it.
Death
Alex had long questioned where one ended up once they crossed the final threshold of life. He had held no faith in life, as religion was relatively uncommon in the era of Quirks. Yet, that never stopped him from wondering. Hell, even with a lack of evidence, Alex was entirely sold on the idea of reincarnation. It kind of made sense to him, but now that he was here in the darkness of oblivion.
He had to admit it was far better than, say, burning in Hell; instead, he was just in nothingness.
No Heaven, no Hell, just him alone with his own thoughts. However, that could be its own kind of hell in the long run. However, while he had no idea just how long he had been here in the darkness, the more Alex thought about it, the more he realized that something seemed...wrong about this.
'Wait, I shouldn't be able to think, period. If I were dead, I wouldn't have a brain to be able to process my thoughts. So how am I still able to think?'
"I'm glad to see you still got all your marbles, sonny boy," a booming voice of amusement spoke up from the darkness. "But come on! Time to get up now! We've got some business to take care of, and I would rather be done sooner than later."
'THE FUCK WAS THAT?!' If Alex could, he might have shit himself after suddenly hearing a random voice in the void.
"Ohohoho, not an uncommon reaction," the voice answered back. "After so many times and attempts at finding gentle ways of calling out to souls, I've learned to just enjoy the reactions instead."
Suddenly Alex felt like he was on solid ground again; the ability to feel sensations returned as he felt his body shift and begin to breathe again.
"I'm alive?" The young American managed to groan out as he opened his eyes.
"Sort of..." The voice spoke again; this time, it was much closer and not as loud.
The Hero-in-Training slowly forced himself up, taking a chance to inspect himself. He was still in his hero costume but could still see the combat damage it had sustained in his last fight, including the now healed yet still scarred wounds. Satisfied that Alex was somehow alive and healed, he looked around his surroundings.
He found himself down on what seemed like a mass of fluffy white clouds, with a bright sunless blue sky overhead; where he was, it was surprisingly warm, and a strange sense of calm surrounded him. Right next to him was a small Japanese-style table with a kindly-looking old man sitting opposite him. The older gentleman reminded Alex of one of the Japanese Cultural Studies teachers he had studied under before arriving in the country.
"You good there, son?" The man spoke as he leaned forward.
"Yeah," Alex answered, after shaking his head and taking another quick breath as if to make sure he wasn't somehow dreaming all of this up. It was strange. Typically, he would have been more suspicious of the man, but for some strange reason, he felt he could instinctively trust him. "I'm just confused..."
"Quite understandable, considering what happened to you at the USJ."
Instantly, Alex's eyes grew wide as he felt his heart sink. USJ was under attack, and his juniors were still in danger.
"THAT'S RIGHT!" Alex yelled, rising up from his seat, quickly trying to find an exit. "I need to go! They're all in danger!"
"Calm down, son, it's alright," the old man replied calmly, motioning for Alex to sit back down.
"But sir! I...I mean..." Alex trailed off as he remembered his situation, trying to steady his breathing despite the sudden injection of adrenaline in his blood. That strange calming sensation seemed to overwhelm him back into a calmer state. "My teachers, friends, juniors...they're all in danger."
As if to answer any more of his possible queries, the old man motioned to a television set that Alex swore hadn't been there a moment ago. It turned and displayed the TV Tōkyō emergency news broadcast. A visibly anxious Japanese news anchor was reporting live outside the UA campus.
"While we know little about the motivation behind the attack. We can confirm that an unconfirmed number of villains had breached all UA security measures and begun attacking the students and staff. There are reports of some students and staff having to be taken to one of the local hospitals in the Tokyo area. We are still waiting for a statement from The Police and UA Staff."
"It's over..." The old man continued, making another simple motion of his hands to mute the TV. "And before you ask, everyone else survived. Including the ones you had saved."
The boy inhaled sharply while his eyes began to burn, the relief hitting him like a tsunami. "Oh...that's good...they made it out...they're safe..."
"I'm sorry, son."
"Honestly, I really don't know what to say." Alex retorted with a laughing sob, wiping away the tears from his cheeks and trying to find some rational explanation for everything. "Part of me thinks this is just some kind of last-minute brain activity before I really kick the bucket."
"I'm afraid not, Alexander. You are indeed dead," The old man stated while slowly shaking his head.
"Then...where am I? And who are you?"
The old man chuckled. "Who do you think I am?"
"Well...If I'm being honest, my knee-jerk answer would have been the Devil, but I don't feel anything malicious out of you. Actually..." Alex looked around nervously. "I've been feeling a little weird since I woke up...like something is suppressing my emotions...and I kind of don't like it.
"Ah, not the first time I've been told that either," the man answered as he bushed his beard. "But then again, you've always been quite blunt regarding how you deal with things. But no, I'm not the Devil."
"To be fair, you could always just be lying..."
The Old man laughed. "Fair enough, but to actually answer your question. I'm God."
"Huh...my second guess was some kind of angel or one of those saint guys that is supposed to work for you. I didn't expect that the big man himself to speak with me."
"So you believe me?"
"At this point...I can kind of tell that I'm at your mercy. So my belief or disbelief seems kind of irrelevant at this time," Alex admitted with a long sigh.
"Well, I hope I don't come off as hostile, even though I haven't ever been hurt by a mortal. But I also prefer getting straight down to business by lowering a mortal's typical emotional responses," God explained as he adjusted himself in his seat. He raised his right hand and slowly waved it over his vision of Alex. "However, I think I can trust you enough to let you be yourself."
The young American slowly felt that calming presence dissipate. Only to be replaced with that same adrenaline rush and anxiety he had been feeling not moments earlier. The poor lad had to take a moment to breathe and steady himself like he had been taught during training. Thankfully, the Almighty was kind enough to provide something to soothe the lad's frayed nerves.
"Care for a cup of coffee?" God gently suggested as he manifested a fresh cup to appear right in front of the young man.
"What, no tea?" Alex japed with a nervous laugh and reached for the coffee.
"Now, now, we both know you've always detested tea," God chuckled as Alex took a sip. "Which made it all the more laughable when you end up in Japan."
"Damn...it's just like Uncle Barry would make it," Alex admitted, surprised by the taste. "You even got that hint of black gunpowder in there!"
"It puts hair on your balls," God answered, mimicking his uncle's voice.
"Yeah, that's Uncle Barry, alright," Alex followed up, doing his absolute damnedest not to laugh out loud at what he had gotten God to say. But then, he remembered his family back home and his cousin Lucy, who would have gotten the news by now.
"Damn...I guess I kept my promise to everyone back home..." Alex said to himself as he felt his eyes start to burn again. "I said I would only come back home a Hero. I guess I'll have to settle on just being a hero delivered in a box. Rather than coming home with my Pro-Hero license."
"They've already been informed," God stated gently.
"Oh god..." Alex breathed out, only to realize what he had just said. "Oh...shit, sor- Godda- FU-Mmm..."
"Breathe, son, breathe," God reassured him. "I've heard it all before, and much, much worse if I'm being honest."
Alex took the offer and composed himself. When he was finally ready and accepted the harsh reality, he had been dealt with and did not want to dwell on the evermore depressing thoughts about his family. He asked the other poignant question on his mind.
"So...what happens now? Are you here to judge me?" Alex asked nervously as he was far from a saint.
"Oh no, you were judged long before you arrived here, son," God answered in a firm yet still friendly manner. "In my judgment, I have found that you meet a rare criteria. Your good deeds far outweigh your sins, and while far from Sainthood. I dare say you can stand proud of many of your accomplishments. One of the few foreigners to ever make it to the UA Hero Course, you even make it to The Big Five. Despite all the challenges against you, you never allowed your failures to discourage you."
'Yeah...all those hours studying and training...instead of being with my friends and family when I still could've gone to a Hero Course at home...But I wanted to be like All Might after all...' Alex couldn't help but think, only to stop himself. 'Wait..no stop...dying on the job was always a possible occupational hazard...It's done...just let go...'
"In short, you are here, like many others before, to be given a second chance at life," God continued, knowing that the young man had lost focus. All that mattered was that he understood the offer being given to him.
"Wait..." Alex said with a growing smile and sudden renewed hope. "You're going to send me back?! I get a second chance?"
"I think you misunderstood what I meant," God shook his head. "I am afraid that even gods are bound to rules set forth by Providence. I cannot bring you back to your life and your world. However, I can send you to another world."
"So...reincarnation?" Alex followed up, seeing that his previous theory on the topic seemed to be correct.
"Well, yes and no. Reincarnation implies your death and rebirth," God explained as he placed his long bony fingers together. "Here, I would directly send you as you are to this new world. So, I suppose an otherworldly transplant would be a more accurate description."
"I mean...I guess that's cool, not having to be a kid again. Though I might have looked forward to having nap time again," Alex answered with a chuckle. He had had a good childhood, considering all of the efforts he had made in his previous life. It would have been kind of nice to take it easy again. However, that's when something clicked that he hadn't realized was said until just now. "Wait...what do you mean by another world?"
"Alex, I know you are more than aware of multiverse theory," God answered with a shake of his head.
"To be fair, God. I didn't even know you existed until a short while ago," Alex retorted honestly. "My whole worldview has kind of been turned on its head without any way to tell what was really the truth or otherwise."
"Fair enough," God chuckled again, respecting the lad's honesty as he brushed his beard. "But yes, there are several versions of the earth, including ones where magic is real."
"Whoa...magic?!" Alex questioned as if he wasn't sure he heard him correctly. "Like the ones in the fantasy genre?"
"More or less, depending on which specific world. Even your world of quirks might be considered its own form of sorcery in other worlds."
"Man, this...this is a real trip to learn," Alex sighed as he shook his head and processed all of this mind-blowing information. "But why me? Why am I being chosen for this?"
"Hahaha, I knew you weren't paying attention earlier," God answered with a waggle of his finger. "You're not the only one. Throughout history, people who meet this criterion can be selected for this opportunity regardless of their placement in time or space. You are just one of the many, albeit I will confess that for how rare it is, you actually knew a few other candidates for this chance."
Alex rattled his head for a moment; then, the familiar face of his once one-sided rival popped into his mind's eye. "Was Mirio Tōgata one of them?"
"Correct! But he wasn't the only one; Izuku Midoriya was also a candidate for this opportunity. They've already accepted them in other parallel worlds where they have met their untimely ends."
"Damn, even in death, Mirio one-ups me. What's next? Did Nejire like him?"
There was an awkward silence that filled the room. Alex was slowly forced to relive the stinging pain of Nejire's rejection in his heart as he heard God try to clear his throat. The old man was clearly trying to move the conversation along and spare the poor lad his feelings.
"She likes him, doesn't she?"
"I think the answer would be redundant if I'm being honest," God answered. "For now, let's focus on my offer. The world I will send should you accept the offer is one where swords and sorcery still reign, but for the most part, it's relatively peaceful. I think it will be the perfect place for you to call your new home. "
'I guess it's better than nothing...' Alex thought, bowing his head a little; it was nice that God was going to put him somewhere less risky. After all the years of working so damn hard, it was nice to maybe take it easy and enjoy life a little. "I accept your offer, and Ummm...thank you for the opportunity, sir."
"There is one last thing," God added as he nodded with approval and waved his hand across Alex again. "In light of your efforts and for bravely sacrificing your life. I am granting you a few boons that I think will be quite helpful in your new life."
Alex felt a strange sensation for a moment as his body suddenly felt more energized than before. His body felt lighter, muscles tighter; it was as if he had lost seventy pounds all over again. Then there was another odd sensation of and, for the lack of a better word, some kind of power, whatever it was, he could feel it flowing around his body.
"Mana, the raw energy needed to use magic," God explained, knowing the boy would have questions about the foreign sensations he was currently experiencing. "I've also enhanced your stats. As good as your company is, I'd rather not see you again...at least until you've enjoyed what life has to offer a little bit more. Finally, I will grant you one item to take with you to the next world."
"Does that include my clothes?" Alex instinctively answered, holding on to the folds of his Hero Costume. While God seemed like a good dude, he would also seem like the type of guy that would enjoy a good prank.
God laughed.
"Almost got you there! But seriously, you'll get to keep your Hero Costume. I know how hard you worked for it. No, it would be something outside of what you died in."
Alex thought carefully for another moment, thinking about what could be really useful. His first instinct was to ask for a multi-tool, like a Swiss Army knife, since he had to dump the rest of his Support Gear to use Quirk's special move. However, in the grand scheme of things, access to information was perhaps going to be his greatest asset. As smart as Alex was in life, he could always be smarter.
With that in mind, he asked to see if his request would be allowed.
"How about my smartphone?" Alex questioned only to realize a few fatal flaws in his ingenious plan. "Wait..crap, I won't be able to charge it..."
"Hmm? You can just keep it charged with magic," God answered as he knew where the lad was going with this. "And for the record, you're not the only one who's asked to take their phones with them. I'll do you the same favor I did with them. You'll have full internet access..."
'SCORE! I CAN STILL WATCH PORN!' Alex thought with relief while god kept listing off the features. Of course, there was the benefit of having Google and Youtube at his fingertips, but a man still had needs Goddamn it. It's not like he'd have any better luck with the ladies of this new world, right?
"...and GPS," God finished up. "The only thing I can't allow is any communications with your previous world. So no calls, texts, or posting on social media. Trust me, I know all of the loopholes."
"Yeah...that makes sense..." Alex admitted. At least he'd still get to enjoy shows and manga when they release online, so he'll be able to keep tabs on his favorite ships. "So I'll take the smartphone, please."
God waved his hands over the table as Alex's smartphone appeared next to his coffee cup. The lad was happy that God had even fixed the cracked screen, and it still had his American flag protective phone case. However, what he didn't expect was a small black case to appear right next to it; his Bluetooth wireless earbuds.
"Oh damn, I didn't even think about that," said Alex as he collected his things.
"Hard to enjoy music without drawing attention," said God as he leaned back, his labor complete. "Now, my boy. Unless you have any questions, it's time for you to embark on your new journey."
"Actually, sir, I did have one question, if you don't mind," Alex responded after thinking it over.
"Yes?"
"You mentioned multiverse theory...well, I guess it's not really a theory anymore now...But I digress!" Alex started up with a stammer. "So, was there a universe where I survived?"
"There are several universes where you survived the events of the USJ," God answered honestly. "Events differ as in most universes you don't even exist! Let alone make it to the UA and could therefore experience the events of the USJ. However, there was a split in the timeline at the moment of your death. This one in which you died and one where you managed to survive."
"Lucky bastard," Alex couldn't help but say, jealous of his other universe's counterpart. "Well...at least it's not all bad."
God remained silent. He didn't want to inform the lad of his other universe's counterpart's disgrace or how that version of himself would be forced to leave the school he had worked so hard to gain admittance in a short while. Ultimately, both versions of Alexander Johnathan Springfield would walk a path into the unknown and face the trials that awaited them head-on.
"Was there anything else, my son?"
"No, sir. I'm..." Alex took a deep breath. "I'm ready."
"Very well!" God said as he clapped his hands. "Best of luck to you, Alex."
Alex suddenly felt the sensation of gravity return, and he was suddenly swallowed by the clouds beneath him. Even though the young man was in freefall, he felt calm as he continued his descent into the brave new world. What else could he do except hope everything he had been told was true. So the lad simply closed his eyes and waited to see where he would end up.
Little did he know what the journey that awaited him had in store.
Author's Commentary
Well, what do you think about the opening?
For readers unfamiliar with my work and who also happen to be fans of My Hero Academia, check out my main fic. My Hero Academia Untold: The Fafnir Knight. It is also the story that introduces Alex in much greater detail.
For readers who are familiar with my works and saw this new story, especially if you were already a fan of Alex. What do you think? I will also take the chance to reveal that we will he snippets of what happened in the old universe via video clips and news reports Alex will still be able to read.
Alex will have a whole character arc and expect the canonical girls to have a more significant role than just relying on the MC.
Well, I think that covers it!
Until next time!
