BitterMint
Chapter 1
Author Notes: It's been...seven or so months now since I got the new game and sadly...i've only completely finished Rod's route...It was good, but let me be honest he is not my boy and currently i'm so busy that i can't even play the game...
To make myself feel better well...its time for a story that was constantly coming to me while playing the first game. We'll see if Sen reads this one though I promised I would at least try to make a story starring his character. But for now we're doing one for mine~ I do not own Cinderella Phenomenon.
3rd P.O.V
It was another night in the kingdom of Angielle. A sense of calm lingered as stars twinkled in the night sky, while most people were safely tucked into their beds. Dreaming of a better tomorrow. Of a bright new day to greet them. However in a tavern towards the edge of town there were no peaceful dreams.
But rather a tense riddled reality in the form of two individuals. The more vocal of the two being a young girl, with dark purple eyes and deep red hair with ghostly white tips reaching past her chest. The colors matching that of her namesake. '
I don't understand mom...how can you take their side!? It's because of them and those damn fairytales we're dealing with this in the first place.' The arguing between them was a repetitive, irritating cycle.
One that desperately needed to end, one way or another tonight. 'We cannot let ourselves subject to anger Peppermint, it won't help anyone during these dire times.' Peppermint had heard this before, just the other day if she recalled correctly.
She was running away, trying to steer the topic into a different direction. 'This isn't anger talking mom. People are dying! Going crazy on top of it all and you're not listening to me! You never have!' No matter what she wasn't going to let her run away from this.
In general the girl was getting tired of this conversation(and to a lesser extent her) being beaten around the bush. For weeks now this has been going on, the change happening practically overnight. This could've been prevented-hell this SHOULD have been prevented.
However they were now stuck here dealing with it. Now was the time for action. Not standing around like a fool, twiddling their thumbs hoping this whole thing blows over. A toddler could see that this wasn't going to go away with a little wish. If that was the case this would've been situated long before the witch fires began.
'Look...I get that we're supposed to be the embodiment of positivity and as far as Grim goes 'good' people but enough is enough! You tried talking sense into them and they refused to listen-and now that the witches are fighting back you decide to actually interfere. Why!?"
There was a sense of guilt as the woman who took her in and raised her flinched. But that feeling left almost as soon as it came when she remembers all the good people-valuable, precious friends she lost to the humans.
All of the innocent magical beings that screamed as they died by fire. Some weren't even witches, but her own kind. Regardless of who or what, they all died terribly. A cruel, slow, agonizing death. It was heart shattering to watch, unable to do anything else as flesh charred into ash.
Even now with a twitch of her nose, the aroma of burnt skin still lingered. 'We cannot allow the witches to curse people Mint. It's not right. To maintain balance we need to-' Immediately her daughter furiously shakes her head. Balance this, balance that, it was the same repetitive words.
The same argument between them. 'Balance was lost the moment you let that man write bias stories of us and the witches. Do you even care about them!?' Deep within herself Peppermint knew she was being harsh in her statements. But this was ridiculous.
Her mother-forget all of the other fairies that fluttered around with hesitation...her mother who had always told her to stand up for what's right and follow her heart is doing nothing to help the problem at hand. 'Of course I care Mint. But...I can't just-' Has Done nothing.
'Can't what? Tell the king that he's wrong? That the witches have every single damn right to protect themselves? And that he should've kept his followers and his own biased ass to himself!?' There was admittance that Peppermint was still young and to an extent naïve.
She didn't exactly understand the vast complications of politics and the relationships between humans, fairies and witches. But that meant nothing when she as well as any sane, somewhat intelligent person with eyes can see that the humans started all this.
After reading some fictional writings, people started painting their fellow Angielle citizens in opposing roles. Instead of positive and negative emotions and magics bringing forth balance it was good versus evil. The sweet, docile, helpful fairies against the wicked, cruel, malicious witches.
And like in those twisted stories, the evil villains must be destroyed-and destroyed they were. If it was painful for Peppermint, a fairy to see such horrid, unneeded bloodshed-she could only imagine how the Tene Bearer was dealing with this.
If she was leading an attack against the humans with the now infamous Fairytale Curse than assumedly not very well. 'Language young lady! We are ending this conversation. I have a meeting to get to.' No, not again.
With a snarl Peppermint waves her hand, summoning her magic to slam all the doors within the tavern shut and cover the windows with curtains. 'Nuh uh. Not this time mom. For once you're going to act like a proper adult and speak to me seriously about what your plan to stop all this is.'
Peppermint needed to hear something from the older fairy's mouth. Something more productive than just try to speak peacefully with the executioners. Time was running out...'That's what the Fairy's Council meeting is for.' It seemed that mother dearest had finally lost patience with her.
'I will be back later tonight. Stay in your room until I return.' With a snap of her fingers, all of Peppermint's magic is canceled out. Showing the vast differences in power between the two. Just how inferior Peppermint was.
What she's always been when compared to her. 'I know things are difficult right now Mint...but trust me. Give me time.' Those were the two things she couldn't do. Even as her mother plants a gentle kiss to her forehead there was no softening expression.
No promise that she will obey like a good little girl. She's long grown past that stage of foolish obedience. If the elder fairy actually bothered to look at her daughter she would see that there was clearly something wrong..
Hollow, tired, red eyes with encircles coated deep black, a stark contrast to pasty skin hidden away. If she held her in a loving embrace she would notice that her child, though not by blood had bones protruding through her body. Having lost vast amounts of weight that was hidden in the baggy attire she wore.
If she had just stopped, and listened as she claimed to be doing, to have been doing, she would have been able to hear a hysterical, desperate underlining with her tone. As if this was her final chance. That something was bothering the young girl.
But in the end...Peppermint stood there, watching with a neutral face as her mother gently closes the door behind her. Waiting a minute after her departure before allowing the tears to fall down her cheeks.
To be continued
Author Notes: Well isn't this a lovely start? Big fight between a mother and a daughter. To those who have played the game, I'm pretty sure you all can guess who mama fairy is. But if not it's fine-we'll get to that in due time.
And just for the record in case there are some newcomers to my work-this is a flashback chapter, in the next chapter we'll be in the 'present' or beginning of the game with more characters and it will be formatted differently.
I'll be sure to do a format reminder in the next chapter's author notes since they're running a bit long here. But for now ladies and gents that is all I got for this chapter. Thank you for reading and if you like please feel free to fav/follow/review as it would mean the world to me, tchao for now!
