"W-wait. Please don't forget to do your safety checks. The train station is no place for running."

A young and nervous Ingo warns as he's being excitedly dragged by his twin Emmet and their childhood friend Elesa. The Nimbasa City Subway has opened today and the twins would not miss the chance to see the trains' first journey.

The trio were able to sneak inside the crowd and make themselves comfortable at the front, with the barrier keeping the crowd from the tracks. Soon, a train arrived at the platform to which the crowd gasped and cheered. The brand new train glistened blindingly from the lights of the cameras.

"Wow. It's shining so brightly." Elesa commented as she noticed that the twins were sparkling brighter with admiration.

A conductor alighted from the train as he bowed gracefully to the still cheering crowd. Ingo and Emmet turned their attention to the conductor.

"I am Emmet. I want to be like him when we grow up." He states as the conductor already began boarding passengers inside the train. I ngo nods in agreement as he observes the conductor tipping his hat to the crowd. "I would also want to be like him." He looks at his brother. "But, didn't you say you also want to be a strong Pokemon trainer? I doubt we'd have the time to be both a conductor and a trainer. We'd be causing everyone inconvenient delays."

"Hmm, you have a point." Emmet looks up as he tries to think how he'll make their two dreams work. He got excited when he suddenly had a brilliant idea."I know. I found a way to make the two trains meet at the same station." Ingo and Elesa looked at Emmet in confusion.

He explains excitedly. "We should have Pokemon battles inside the trains." Both Ingo and Elesa look at him as if he's a Deino that evolved into Zweilous.

Their expressions did not damper Emmet's excitement. "You know those Battle Frontiers in other regions? We could have something like that here in Unova. But instead of inside a boring, stuffy tower, we could have the battles inside the cabs."

Elesa looks at Emmet with amazement while Ingo looks apprehensive. "That's actually a great idea. I could see the battles would be fun and dazzling."

Ingo, however, voiced out his worries. "But wouldn't that compromise the safety of the passengers?" He added. "Pokemon battles are fun but I'm not sure if the trains are durable enough to accommodate them."

Emmet did assure his brother that he prepared for his proposal. "I am Emmet. I have a brilliant idea on how we could make it work." He explains further. "We could make the trains and tracks more safe and durable than the ones people ride on. It would be made for Pokemon battles. We would study hard to make it happen."

Ingo smiles as he finally accepts his brother's proposal. "Bravo Emmet. I am impressed that you have thought of this thoroughly." He looks at his brother with a serious and determined expression. "I'm onboard on this train with you. We could call it the Battle Subway."

Emmet smiles at his brother's words. "We could wear something like what the conductor wore once we head the Battle Subway." He points towards the conductor as he finally went inside the train to make it move.

Elesa adds in her input. "I could have the best fashion designer in Unova to make matching uniforms for you two." Elesa offers as the brothers look at her with stars in their eyes. There was no way she'd allow her best friends to look like boring train conductors. "I do want to become a model and a Gym Leader. I want to use Electric types since they're all dazzling. I'll help you in making the Battle Subway famous in Unova." Both brothers hugged Elesa in gratitude as she pats their head affectionately.

The train whistles loudly as it signals it's departure from the station.

The loud ringing of his Rotom phone brought Emmet back to reality as he blearily opened his eyes and saw that he's in his room.

"Another dream about him again."

Emmet woke up depressingly as he lifts himself up. Before he got out of his bed, a familiar ringing called for his attention. The air turned warmer as he turns his head to seen Ingo's Chandelure hovering beside him worriedly like a mother Gardevoir.

"Don't worry. I am Emmet. I am fine. I slept well like a Togepi using Rest." He forcibly smiled to assure the still worried Chandelure that there's nothing for her to fuss about. Her face remains the same as she knows that he's still keeping up appearances even with her. Emmet should have realized sooner that it's practically useless with her.

He got out of bed soon enough and went to the bathroom to freshen up. He still has his job as a Battle Subway boss after all. He tries to avoid looking at the mirror as much as possible due to his own reflection painfully reminding him of the twin that he lost. But today is not one of those days as he realizes that he needed to shave after he ran his fingers on his chin and touched the stubble that's growing. He needed to look presentable after all.

As he looks at himself, he couldn't miss the exhaustion that marred his face like scars. The bags under his eyes seem to be turning into a permanent fixture. Elesa and Chandelure pretty much have to nag him to take better care of himself. But he couldn't help it. He took it upon himself to continue running his and his brother's beloved Battle Subway as it's lone boss. If Elesa didn't petition to have the Multi Train line closed indefinitely, Emmet would have literally worked himself to the bone from the sheer amount of work he's burdening on himself. He eventually agreed after coming to the painful realization that no one else would be able to sync with him as much as Ingo could.

After freshening up, he went to his closet to retrieve his uniform. It was a long, gray coat similar to the ones that he and Ingo used to wear. This time though, the coat lacked the railroad stripes that made their previous uniforms special. Emmet had wanted initially to just wear the uniform of a Depot Agent. But Elesa insisted to have a new uniform made for him and to keep his previous uniform safely stored. After all, he is still a Subway Boss. She wanted to make sure that he still stands out fashionably from his subordinates.

As he grabbed the matching pants and hat, his hand touched the white coat and pants that he shoved at the back of the closet. He smiles sadly as recalls a memory of Elesa giving them brand new matching uniforms once they became the Subway Bosses. Ingo's own uniform has been safely stored inside the closet in his room. At the end of each week, he takes the time to clean his brother's clothes and room. His old uniform also gets washed to make sure it remains in pristine condition.

Once he got out of his room, he prepared to make breakfast for himself and his Pokemon. The task of caring for his and Ingo's team now falls squarely on his shoulders. At first, caring for his and Ingo's team was a gargantuan task as each of their Pokemon have their own quirks and personalities. But with the help of Chandelure and Excadrill, their Pokemon have mellowed out considerably. Though some of his Pokemon like Archeops and Haxorus remained their playful selves.

"Here you go everyone. Dig in." Emmet said as he placed the bowls of food in front of all his Pokemon. They all ate their food with so much gusto that Emmet smiled genuinely for the first time in a while. Then he went towards the table where he prepared his own breakfast.

Chandelure only took a few bites of her food before she turned her head to Emmet as he sat down to eat his breakfast. She floated towards him to inspect what he prepared. To say that she's disappointed in his choice of food would be an understatement. All he had for breakfast was a piece of toast and a cup of black coffee. She rang out a nagging tune until Emmet looks at her. He got defensive when she continued to nag him. "I am not verrry hungry right now." Still, Chandelure didn't stop nagging until Emmet relented and got a bagel and cream cheese spread. She approved of the addition as she went back to finish her food. Even though Chandelure could be annoying when she's nagging him, Emmet is still grateful that she cares enough for him.

Once everyone was fed, Emmet returned them all to their Poke balls so he could start his day. "I'm leaving this station now." He says to no one in particular as he closes the door to his and Ingo's apartment.

It has become routine for Emmet to do some paperwork in his office first before riding on the train to actually do battles. He would ride on either the Single or Double Train cabs as he awaits the trainers that managed to amass the required number of winning streaks. He would rotate between being in the Single or Double Trains while his subordinates would take his place on the other trains at their insistence.

Once the work was done for the day, Elesa would usually drag him around Nimbasa City so they'd eat dinner together. Sometimes she'd also do this during lunchtime if her schedule would allow her. Tonight, she decided that they'd eat dinner at the new Galarian restaurant that opened a few days ago.

"Wow. This looks so delicious." Elesa said happily as she took a picture of the Galarian curry she ordered with her Rotom phone. Emmet simply nodded as he begins to eat the curry that he ordered. Elesa hums in delight as she took a bite from her food. "This is as delicious as it looks."

She began a conversation with her friend. "You know, Nessa told me that this restaurant is super popular in Galar. They usually cook curry when camping but the founder thought it'd be a good idea to serve it in restaurants instead. Not everyone takes the Gym Challenge there." Emmet looks at her to try and feign a genuine interest in Elesa's conversation. But he's too tired to even get invested in small talk. "That's verrry interesting." He tries to force a smile but Elesa can see right through it.

However, that didn't deter her as she continues to talk to her friend. They told each other what happened with their day as per routine. But Emmet feels like Elesa wanted to say something else.

"Just tell me want you wanted to say." Emmet bluntly says as Elesa looks in surprise. "We've been friends for a verrry long time. It's verrry unlike you to hold back when you want to say something." Elesa smiles sadly at her friend as he pretty much read her mind like an Alakazam. "I guess I can't hide anything from you."

She pauses for a moment to collect her thoughts. Then with confidence, she suggests. "I think you should take a week off from work." Emmet was taken aback by her suggestion. Has she been shocked by her Pokemon too much? "I am Emmet. I am a Subway Boss. I cannot take time off from work as I took responsibility for everything. The Battle Subway has been our dream since we were little. You should know that."

Elesa tried to make Emmet see reason as unlike Ingo, he has a bit of a stubborn streak. "I understand that you wanted to continue both of your dreams but listen to me first." She was giving him a worried look like the one Chandelure gives him each day. "When was the last time you took a vacation for yourself? And how many hours of sleep do you get each day? No offense Emmet but you always look tired." Her tone now becomes more somber. "I don't want a repeat of when you fainted while doing your work." Emmet was left speechless as she continues to give him a worried look.

A few years ago, he collapsed while battling with a trainer in the Single Train line. The trainer panicked and immediately got one of the Depot Agents who, in turn, got a Medic to examine a still unconscious Emmet. When he didn't wake up, he was brought to the clinic where he eventually regained consciousness. Elesa had to run straight from her photoshoot when she received the call and gave Emmet an earful before hugging him and crying in relief. Chandelure was restless the entire time as she refuses to part Emmet's side until he woke up. She has been the Pokemon battling with him when he fainted. And since that day, she and Elesa always makes sure that Emmet would take better care of himself.

"I'll think about it." Elesa relaxes for a bit at his answer as she takes it that he'll consider her offer at the very least. They continued to eat their dinner in silence after that.

After bidding their farewells, Emmet went home to his apartment and immediately released all his Pokemon once he got inside. He quickly worked on preparing their food so that everyone would be fed. While everyone else was eating, he went to his room to grab his change of clothes. He went straight to the bathroom to take a shower. As the warm water melts away the day's stress, he mutters to himself. "A vacation, huh? That sounds verrry nice." He ponders on Elesa's suggestion from earlier. While taking a week off for a vacation sounds fine and dandy, he couldn't just leave the Battle Subway by itself. Who would run it in his stead?

After finishing his shower, drying himself and putting on clean clothes, he cleaned up the bowls where everyone ate their food. He grabbed everyone's Poke balls so they could get inside of it and rest. Almost everybody complied and returned easily. However, Chandelure somehow refused to get inside her ball.

"Come on now Chandelure. It's time to rest our cabs." Emmet presses on but Chandelure is stubborn in her stance. She was usually the most obedient out of his and Ingo's team. Has his stubbornness rubbed off of her? "What has gotten into you? This is verrry unlike you." She instead hovered beside him and looked towards his room.

It took a while before Emmet understood what Chandelure wanted to do. "You want to make sure that I go to sleep right away?" Chandelure nods her head as Emmet looks in confusion. But at this point, he's too tired to argue anyway. "Fine. We'll follow your tracks." Chandelure hums an approving tone as she follows Emmet to his bedroom. He placed Chandelure's Poke ball at the small table beside his bed. He fell into his bed as tiredness is slowly taking a hold of him. "Good night." When she's sure that Emmet has fallen asleep judging from the soft breathing he makes, Chandelure went inside her Poke ball to rest for the night.
