A new school year has just begun at Mystic Falls High, with seniors leaving for college, and freshmen preparing themselves for their high school year.

"The Battle of Willow Creek took place at the end of the war in our very own Mystic Falls…"

While some are unfortunately forced to listen to Mr. Tanner's lectures on the first day of school "...How many casualties resulted in this battle?"

Henry zoned out after that, The history of Mystic Fall didn't really interest him that much. it is probably because everyone in this town chose to ignore the white supremacist and slavery that used to happen here and instead turn it into and founders holiday of all things

Oh, and the new kid just win against Tanner apparently.

...

Yesterday everyone was planning on going to that back-to-school party in the woods. He wasn't going because of his work.

What he learned this morning made him glad he didn't.

Just as he saw Jeremy enter the school, he moved from his locker to walk beside him. "What with the look Gilbert? Yesterday you looked like a band kid and now you act like a lost puppy!"

"Haven't you heard what happen at the party?"

"Oh! so it's true that you saw Vicky Donovan get attacked by an animal?"

"I didn't, I heard her scream and found her injured on the ground," said Jeremy.

"Didn't you would skip school today to visit her?" Theo ask.

"I already did this morning, she wasn't even awake and Elena would kill me if skip school again"

Theo give him a look and smiled. "since when has that stopped you? not that I am encouraging you to skip school obviously."

He was friend-ish with Jeremy, One of the things they share in common is their passion for art. Theo moves closer to Jeremy and whispers "you didn't hear it from me, but the new guy seems to have a thing with your sister. They were like ogling each other the whole time."

"I know. She just invited him into my house yesterday." Jeremy's voice that he has no interest in his sister's love life...

"So they're already moving to third base, damn." Theo dramatically signs. "But Heyyy, If you think you had it bad, I have a parent conference with Mr, Tanner. today"

"oh…"

"I know! Anyway, later." before he could walk away, Jeramy pull his shoulder "Wait! Do you know where Tyler usually handouts at lunchtime?" He quickly asks.

Theo said. "with the girls in front of the school usually, why?"

"Nothing just wanna talk to him about something, later." He then walks into another classroom. Henry got the impression that Jeremy is definitely going to do something stupid, he didn't pry further though.

After all the classes were finished, Henry saw Jenna Sommar, Jeremy's guardian leaving Mr tanner's classroom with a sour expression on her face. When she was out of the hallway He release a sign. "Eurgh, I don't have a choice do I?" He quickly walked into the classroom seeing Mr. Tanner already reading the papers in his hand while leaning against the teacher's desk.

"Mr. Frye, you are 15 minutes early I see" He first said

"I'd rather get this over with Mr. Tanner," Henry said

"This was supposed to be a parent-teacher conference but since you don't have one…"

Henry fakely smiles. "You be surprised by how many students here live without a guardian Mr. Tanner."

Mr. Tanner asks him another question. "Your going to turn 16 soon right, Must be hard to live alone without a guardian"

Henry shrugged "I can take care of myself just fine Mr. Tanner. I have been doing it for the last 2 years."

"And where has gotten you now?" Said Mr. Tanner. Henry's face falters. It is true that his grade has been dropping since the school year began but it was because he spend the rest of his time working that he didn't have any left for studying. besides, he has no right to say that.

"Care to get to the point, Mr. Tanner? I have a job to go to after this."

"Sure just answer any of these questions…"

...

A certain trio was sitting by the Mystic Grill terrace after school.

"I was talking to Grams," Bonnie said. "And she said the comet is a sign of impending doom. The last time it passed over Mystic Falls there was a lot of death".

"Mm. Yeah, and then you poured grams another shot and she told you about the aliens." Said caroline

Henry comes out of the grill walking with drinks on his plate, not wearing his signature sweater but instead an apron with the Mystic Grill logo on it.

"Hey girls, here are the refills," he said.

"Henry, you work here? How did we never see you?".Caroline looked surprised to see him.

"I usually work in the kitchen, storage, cleaning, and stuff. But after what happened to Vicky yesterday I'm taking over for her".

Bonnie looked at Elena. "Yeah, is she okay now?"

"Matt said he would give me a call if something happen," Elena said

Bonnie "we could all go visit her later right?"

"Yeah, we should do that" Caroline exclaim.

Henry explain. "I can't, unfortunately, have to cover for her."

With that, he left with his empty plate, Caroline turned back to Elena with a smile. "Back to your less serious problem, so then what?"

The next day has gone normal. everyone was planning to watch the comet tonight.

"Originally discovered nearly five centuries ago, it hasn't been over Mystic Falls in over 145 years."

He really wishes the guy would just get run over or something. Henry Normally doesn't get mad at anyone for long but this guy has gone out of his way to antagonize everyone every chance he gets. What's his problem?!

"Now, the comet will be its brightest right after dusk during tomorrow's celebration."

After school, Henry volunteered to hand out a program for the comet festival that will be held in the town square tonight, mainly because he is hoping for some nice people to give him some change while doing it. Normale people would find that a desperate move but he heard that a kid manage to collect 200 dollars from it alone.

"Night of the Comet, would you like a program?" He continues politely saying whenever someone passes him by. he then looks at his watch, his shift starts in 10 minutes

"Shit, I'm gonna be late" He frantically look around to see two familiar people he know, and he immediately ran up to them "hey, can you cover for me? my shift at the Grill is gonna start soon.

"Sorry, we already ha-" Bonnie said first before-

"Of course," Elena give him a bit delayed response. Henry notice this and took advantage of it "thanks!" he hands them over to Elena quickly before running to the other of the square. Bonnie gaped at her best friend "Elena!"

once he came inside, he saw Vicky finally coming back from the hospital to her work.

He fixes his poster and walks up to them with a happy tone: "Heyyy Vicky you back!" Vicky looked surprised "hey Henry, Thanks for covering for me when I wasn't here." "Oh yeah, Robert was pissed when he found out there wasn't enough staff working. next time you're going to have to cover for me too when I have a good reason okay?" "Sure man," she said.

Theo turned his head to the side, finally noticing there was another person beside them.

"oh hello, Jeremy." Jeremy with his hand behind her back said "hey…"

there was a pause for a second before Henry finally put two and two together.

"Ohh… if you guys wanna do something heavy I recommend doing it out in the back instead of the toilet." Theo said calmly. "what-!" Jeremy was about to deny it but Vicky reassured him. "relax Jeremy, he caught me several times in the bathroom but never told Robert about it" Henry dramatically defend himself "who do you think I am, a snitch?" Jeremy let out a relieved sigh.

Henry turns to both of them gathering enough courage and asks "anyway, are you guys planning on watching the comet later down the square?" "I hadn't really thought about it" Vicky replied before side-eye, Jeremy. "But I could be talked into it" Jeremy smiled at her.

Henry looks at the two calculations before coming to a conclusion "oh-don't worry, I wouldn't want to be a third wheel either" Theo starts to walk away "wait-" "have fuNnnnN!"

When Henry was done with his work, it was already night. He said goodbye to his colleagues as he walked out. It was cold and everyone he could see had already been gathered in the plaza.

He looked around, watching everyone exchanging candles, lighting them up for each other. Luckily he brought his own lighter with him. He sat on a bench while trying to light his candle. "Come on" He crumbles. He finally succeeded on the third try. "Ah."

He slowly looked around. Seeing everyone still looking. he wanted to come here with people he know but they all seems to have someone already. It just made him a little sad he wasn't included.

He waited till this day, planning on revealing it when they were together with him. It is Something he hasn't told everyone yet but isn't really that hard to find out.

Everyone knows today was the celebration of the comet.

It was also his birthday.

His sweet sixteen.

Now it's all ruined because nobody came.

He signs, looking at the sky. The comet is almost passing the crescent moon.

Something in his eyes glowed like a dot of light. It was a feeling he hadn't felt in a long time. He should be feeling sad right now but instead, he felt peaceful for a moment.

Until he woke up

"Ergh" he groans, it looks like he fell asleep on a park bench he sat on.

He looked around him and felt relief that no one stole his back. he was about to leave home when Matt hastily ran to him.

"Hey," said Matt.

"Hey. replied Theo.

"Have you seen my sister?"

Oh no she probably doped in the bathroom or something.

"No, sorry."

"Can't find her. She's missing."

Theo shrugs "I recommend looking in the bathroom. she usually smokes weed there."

"Okay, thanks." When Matt leaves. he immediately heads home. Having a good night's sleep is the highest thing on his priority list right now.

When he finally gets home, he collapses in his bed as darkness overtakes him.
