Hello guys I have another story about Lizzy and Darcy I hope you like it. No I do not write like Jane Austin still I thought about giving it a try. English isn't my first language, especially not English from the 1900s and British slang.

Enjoy.

All character belongs to Jane Austen and parte of Pride and Prejudice will be quoted.

Chapter one.

Darcy POV

Pemberley was beautiful all time of year; his favorite season had always been winter. Christmas was a big affair in the Darcy household until Lady Anne passed away. Sr. Darcy had tried to keep up with the traditions but it was not the same and soon he followed his wife. Darcy tried for Georgiana, but eventually he left the holiday spirits for the Matlocks who they spend Christmas with, but now his beautiful wife and children had brought joy to the house once more and it was to that warmth he was rushing to.

Since the early hours of the morning, he had gone out to fix a confrontation between neighbor farmers. He promised Lizzy to be home for supper and he was now late. It had snow the night before and the horse was having a difficult time, he knew he had to get down and walk but before he could his stallions leg bend making him lose his balance sending Darcy flying into the air, landing with a loud thud on his back, the side of his head smashing on the hard snow. He felt the pain in the side of his face. He tried to get up but his vision was blurry. He felt the cold and the wet of the snow. It was going to freeze him but he had no strength. His eyes were closing.

"God, do not let my wife mourn" –he thought. The face of Lizzie and her sweet voice scolding him for being late were his last thoughts before darkness.

Elizabeth POV

It was late, William had promised to be back soon. It was not normal for him to be out this late, no matter how much work he had. He did not like leaving her alone, especially after their children were born. She went out the library looking for a footman.

– "Tommy."—She called to the men standing guard in the hallway.

"Ma'am?"

"Go find Mr. Rogers, two other footman and go find Mr. Darcy I…. It's late Tommy, and he's not yet back. Perhaps is unnecessary, but I have to make sure he's well. "— she said to the young footman. At hearing her tone he immediately ran out the servants stairs and disappeared. She went back to the library and a few minutes later saw through the window, Mr. Roger their head groom set of with the two other men.

It was half an hour later that Mr. Roger and Tommy walked through the door carrying a very cold and disheveled Darcy. Elizabeth cried out his name at the site of him.

"Mrs. Darcy we have to get him to his room"— an out of breath Mr. Roger said

"Yes, quickly up the stairs."—

Mr. Reynolds hearing the commotion ran into the room, catching glimpse of the distress party running up the stairs.

"Mr. Reynolds call the physician"— Lizzy yelled –"and find Mr. Jenkins."—The widen eye Butler ran back down to the kitchen.

The moment they got to his room. Elizabeth started taking her husband's clothes off not caring if it was proper or not.

"Mrs. Darcy let me and Tommy do it ma am"— Mr. Jenkins said arriving to the room.

Mr. Jenkins had been Darcy's valet since he was 13. Sr. Darcy had selected him since Jenkins was only 18 and Sr. Darcy knew that a man needed a loyal, discreet valet, Jenkins being close in age was going to be able to advice and listen to Darcy if he needed. With the years and the many things they talked about Jenkins became a friend, as close as a master and servant could be.

"Mr. Roger wants to speak with you and the physician will be here soon, it would be best if you find out what happen."— Jenkins told Elizabeth, she nodded and left the room. Right at the end of the hallway was Mr. Roger.

"Mr. Roger, tell me everything"

"The stallion tripped, apparently sending Mr. Darcy into the air. Only his back was soaking wet, for what I could tell he was not much in the snow, but…"— he said cautiously

"Do not censor"—Elizabeth demanded.

"He has a cut in the back of his ear; I believe he hit the left side of his head. I have seen multiple riders fall and hit their head, most of them get back up like nothing happen, and others need bed rest, dizziness, and pain in certain parts…

"And…?" Elizabeth asked even more worried.

"Others have memory loss or don't wake up again." Roger stated plainly. Elizabeth paled at his words.

"Tell me the truth Mr. Roger what do you think of this fall. Will I become a widow?"

Mr. Roger looked grieve that Mrs. Darcy was asking such question. — "I believe it was a nasty fall but the master is strong, this is not his first fall. Perhaps he wakes with no recollection of the accident. I am more concern for the fever, we should let Mr. Montgomery confirm before we let our minds wander off."

They both sat in the hallway, Jenkins and her maid Lucy, coming and going with wet cloths. Soon Mr. Montgomery arrived and was directed into the room, Jenkins staying behind to help.

Elizabeth stood up and remember the men next to her— "Thank you Mr. Roger's please go and ask for a hot bath, some tea and hot dinner, go to bed immediately and if you do not feel fit tomorrow morning do not worry about it, put one of the stable boys to your occupations."

"Thank you ma'am"— he said tuning around.

Elizabeth saw him go, He was right William was strong he would make it. she thought.

"Mr. Roger" –she stopped him—"what happen to the stallion?"

"It was Zeus ma'am and unfortunately we had to put him down."

"Pity, it was a fine horse"— Expensive as well she thought.

She knocked before walking into the master suite. The suite she shared with her husband. She looked at Jenkins and Mr. Montgomery examining him and saw poor Tommy near the fire.

"Tommy go rest and ask for a hot bath, tea and food and let's hope tomorrow you feel well. If not, please stay in bed I'm sure we can manage without one footman. Tell Henry he will be on call if Mr. Jenkins needs him"

"Thank you Ma'am"—

Once Tommy was gone she looked at the bed were her husband was trembling.—"Mr. Montgomery start speaking"

—Mr. Montgomery smirked, he as everyone in Lambton and the part of Derbyshire where the Darcy's were loved knew of Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy directness and wit something she was very respected for.

"We have to make the fever go down, so have the fire to the minimal and every couple of hours, open the windows. Mr. Jenkins and I have already left the bed with only one bedsheet. Have cloths of cold water in the forehead and feet. I have examined the cut in his head its minor no need to stitch it and it might leave a scar. It won't be too visible."

"Mr. Roger spoke about memory loss."

The doctor took a deep sigh—"There is a possibility of confusion and perhaps Memory loss of the incident. However, the fever might worsen the situation."

"How much more"— Elizabeth asked, biting her lip.

"He could forget hours, days, perhaps years."

Elizabeth felt dizzy— "Years?"— She whispered.

"I'm truly sorry Mrs. Darcy, but I cannot now more until he wakes up. For now, control the fever and have servants that he will recognize immediately."

"Of course"— she said looking at Jenkins.

"I will be back tomorrow after lunch and send for me if anything happens."

After Elizabeth saw the doctor go, she went down to the kitchen to speak to her staff. They were sitting at their dinner table. Mr. Reynolds saw her. –"Mrs. Darcy" –He said getting up. Suddenly the noise of chairs moving was heard.

"I'm sorry for interrupting but I must clear things about your master while I still have a straight mine"

Not everyone knew the situation. Mr. Reynolds had decided to wait until the doctor arrived, Elizabeth sat in the chair closer to the corner and everyone realized the importance of the situation. — "Please sit"—She waited until everyone was seated— "Mr. Darcy fell off his horse and suffer a blunt hit to his head."

Gasps were heard.

-"He was in the snow too long and now he has a very critical fever. Mr. Montgomery has said there might be some memory loss, but it's uncertain how much."

"What can we do?" –Mrs. Reynolds said clutching at her chest.

"For now, keeping his fever down is important. Please keep ice and water available, use snow if you must. Only those who have worked with Darcy for the last 10 years are to help with his care, in case he wakes. I will have Mr. Jenkins with me at all time and a footman must always be on call, Mr. Reynolds can you call for Mr. Hartsfield inform him of our situation tell him to come to talk to me if he needs anything"

Mr. Reynolds nodded at his mistress. He was sure Mr. Darcy's Steward was able to handle Pemberley for a few weeks. But he was proud that the misses was taking this with the Darcy calm.

"I will not have dinner in the dining room; all my dinners will be in my shared sitting room next to my husband and they will be simple. We will not be taking visitors, tours or calls, and if you hear gossip do not participate. Let's not make this situation more unpleasant. Thank God we're not hosting Christmas. I know that some of you had permission to visit relatives those are still allowed."— Elizabeth sighed; her emotions were taking a toll on her. –"As you know, the children are too small to realize what is happening, but still. Ben might ask about his Papa. Please make sure not to let him know, the children are to keep their routine. That would be all."— She said getting up before she left, Mr. Reynolds said. –"Ma'am, our prayers are with the family."

"Thank you" –she said, looking at everyone.

Elizabeth walked upstairs and had a similar conversation with the children's nurse. The only thing that changed was that she might not always have supper with the children.

The moment she walked into his room she collapsed in the chair next to his bed. Since Elizabeth came with child, they agreed to raise their children different than people from their class would. The children would soon notice his absence.

They had breakfast with the children a few times a week, whenever Darcy was not too busy. And sometimes she would take Ben on her morning walks; they had supper with him every day except when they had company. On Sundays after church they had picnics and swim out in the Lake. Now that it was too cold, they would sit in front of the fire and either Darcy or she would read to them. And in the very cold nights, William would bring Ben and little Emma to sleep with them.

Yes, the children will miss their Papa.

"Please William fight this. We miss you."— She said kissing his hand.
