Pain Hidden by Makeup

"Niichan! Niichan!" I turned around and saw Kourin running to catch up with me, waving her arm. Her purple hair, amber eyes… looks exactly like me. Twins? Nope. Just close brother and sister.

"Oi, Kourin!" I waved back at her. Almost ready to run towards her, I heard horses running. I looked to where the horses were and they were going to pass by. And just realized Kourin was running up to me… I looked at her, realizing she didn't notice the horses.

Standing there like an idiot, I had no clue what to do.

"Niichan! Niichan!" Kourin kept running.

…The horses past by…

… Kourin lied on the ground…

"K-Kourin…" I took a step toward to the young girl who lied right there before me. She had the purple hair, and same eye color as mine. Why did she look so familiar? "Kourin…" This wasn't happening to me. It felt like it was happening to somebody else: that Chou Ryuuen person. That Chou Ryuuen person: who has a younger sister and older brother.

Get back to reality! That Chou Ryuuen person is me. That girl lying on the floor is Chou Kourin, my younger sister… or, was my younger sister… "Kourin… KOURIN!" I leaped forward at my younger sister. Cradling Kourin in my arms, I looked at her. I didn't notice, but tears had begun running down my cheeks minutes before. My bottom lip started bleeding from me chewing on it. I closed my eyes, not wanting to see the badly injured body.

"N-niichan…?" that little small voice came from the small body I was holding in my arms.

I opened my eyes, gladly seeing Kourin's eyes were slightly opened.

"Niichan… what are we going to do today?" Kourin slightly smiled.

"Kourin…"

"Can we play with Kinsei-chan and Leena-chan? They said they had a surprise for you and me. Do you wonder what it is? I-I think it's a party."

"Oh, Kourin…" I hugged her tighter, not wanting to let go.

"Why Niichan cry? Is there something wrong? Me right here, Niichan. Me always here…" She placed her tiny hand on my cheek, but her hand slid off my cheek.

"There's nothing wrong with Niichan… Niichan knows you're there…" I said softly, crying harder.

"Ryuuen, forget about Kourin. She's gone. There's nothing we can do about it," Father told me.

"She wasn't even here. Think of that," Mother suggested. Why were Mama and Papa saying this? Didn't they love Kourin?

Crying, I ran to her room. I grabbed all her clothes and makeup. I went into my room and changed from my clothes into hers. Then, I sat in front of a mirror and put on makeup. "This way, you'll always be with me Kourin. We'll never part. I promise you that…"

"Kourin, how long have you been there?" Little Kourin took my hand and smiled.

"Niichan, what took you so long? I thought you'd never come!" Kourin began complaining.

"Has it been very long, Kourin? I didn't mean to have you wait. What do you want to do today?" I asked her.

"Let's play with Kinsei-chan and Leena-chan! I can't find them anywhere, though. Will you help me find them, Niichan?"

"I sure will."
